Having said that, Coffee Trails has a little more to offer than Starbucks. They sell whole loaves of bread (they look pretty good too!), as well as pies, quiches, and yummy looking muffins. And while I judgmentally expected the worst for their coffee, it certainly was strong, even if the brew wasn't as smooth or delicate as it could have been. A small take-away coffee is $3.50, which is a little more than other places nearby. The atmosphere inside the cafe is bland and feels a bit like a franchise, but the staff are quite friendly and welcoming.

After discussing this desire with our hotel concierge, he kindly pointed us to DB and boy were we not disappointed! Foremost, I was jealous because it seemed like this was - as we call it in the U.S. a mom and pop kind of shop - where they knew all of their regular customers by name. I so wish we would have been a part of that cool kids club! Not only was the customer service stellar (despite not being a part of the cool kids club) but also the quality coffee was delicious. Seriously, in our book, it gave some of the popular chains (like Sbuxs) a run for their money. I would support this business any day over the corporate store. We noticed a dumpling or bao shop next door and I knew I'd have to come back to give that a try. Later one afternoon, I did just that and OMG was I sorry I hadn't done it sooner! What I didn't know, until we went to pay, was that the two are connected. UGH I wish I could hit both places every single day! If you're debating or looking for somewhere delicious for coffee or dumplings/bao, look no further!

Great location: I've always walked on George street, but I discovered Pitt street is even nicer! Less crowded, quieter, and more tree shades. Doppio Espresso is located at the heart of CBD, convenient and accessible. Good coffee: I ordered an ice mocha and it far exceeded my own expectations! First of all, I loved the way they presented it in a mason jar. Second, I'm a big ice cream, chocolate, and coffee lover. My ice mocha had a good balance of all three goodies. It wasn't overly sweet or overly bitter- just right. Great service: The servers were all really attentive and friendly. They made the effort to ask me specifically what I wanted for my orders- ice cream in my ice mocha? Toast and butter for my banana bread? Pleasant atmosphere: Loved the decor and set up of the coffee shop- local and friendly atmosphere. The music volume was also just right- in my case, I went to Doppio Espresso intending on drinking a nice cup of coffee and reading some books. The music had no lyrics, so it was pleasant and at the same time not distracting. Why is it missing a star? - The inside sitting space is a little too cramped. Great for a short stay, but not for a long sitting. - As I was reaching the end of my ice mocha, the server came multiple times to clear my plate/mug. It felt like I was being rushed to leave. In general, I really enjoyed my stay at Doppio Espresso :)

They had heaps of other breakfast options (cooked to eat in) and lots to takeaway too. Smoked salmon rolls, blueberry glazed bagels, muffins and much more. The guys were really nice behind the counter and it looks like they could make a good cup of coffee too. They do catering. Oh and the Bircher was delicious.

But putting aside the layout this is still a good cafe. The coffee here is good, and the barista is a lover of coffee and willing not only to advise, but also to complain about what is lacking with their style of coffee - which was surprisingly refreshing. The food here should be your drawing card here. It is simple but good. I really like the breakfast brioche, especially when add some mushrooms to it. Saying that they are willing here to add or subtract anything on the menu to make exactly what you would like on your plate. Going from there, the staff here are extremely friendly, and make you feel as if you are home. Which generally improve your experience. This is an extremely relaxed and that is awesome for the weekends. But sometimes this place is extremely busy and so you might miss out on a seat, but if you are lucky you can sit down and relax.

A Euro style tall Coffee bar which grinds its own coffee in house, only has only a few tables and a few small pastry selections. Their focus is on the bean. Which is best. No stuffing around. Straight to your order and not too long to wait. Thankfully. The lack of standing room is my only gripe and, on a Saturday morning when you may be a little bit desperate for caffeine, this can severely irritate the crap out of me. I usually elect to wait outside, because prams and the odd lost Hipster are often in the way. This factor doesn't alter the way I feel about their Coffee and its one of the rare places I'll still come back to, even if the store design drives me crazy. Try a "European donut" but not if you're on a diet. It's some serious indulgence.

Go into a cafe that has a separate machine, in this case a Slayer, then you've done extremely well. When this cafe also has multiple single origin coffees on the go, you've arrived. Around this area, this is an easy cafe to recommend. I love the passion they have for awesome coffee and the attention to service they obviously pride themselves with. While I was not blown away with the Kiaragana Peaberry, neither was it disappointing. This would make an awesome "sit at home on your balcony and enjoy a weekend morning" coffee. It was smooth and robust, but as a single origin, it just didn't jump out and say "here I am". So to ensure I finished on a great note, I got them to warm up the slayer and pop out a Kenyan Tegu espresso (on a dash of hot water), and it was awesome. On par with the Honduras I had at Coffee Alchemy, this coffee was robust enough with a hit of a bright back-note, but finished cleanly. All in all it was an enjoyable experience which is exactly what I look for in a great coffee. So if you find your self in Crows Nest, or perhaps are trying to avoid the cafes in North Sydney, this place is a great option. N.B. They have public WiFi on offer. No #powerwhoring available

This unfortunately places their coffee under further consideration with the proximity of highly respected competitors. Unfortunately, the coffee at Bar Latte is still sub-par. Their location is still the best, as it's a quiet sit-down cafe, located at the entrance to the Edgecliff Station, where lot's of people queue for tickets, wait for buses & abuse their lives due to often calculations. Their food especially breakfast and take away sandwiches are good quality, unfortunately they're not competitively priced, and could find that their local customers are not as loyal as they once thought, once the competition is tasted. There is outdoor seating, although I find the cafe tables with high stools often uncomfortable for an extended seating, and it's often very loud with the bus-stop directly opposite. Best of luck Bar Latte, I'm sure you can get better!

I ordered a large latte ($3.50) - they do sandwiches and other things too though. BUT! Despite the fantastic blend, my coffee was warm. So disappointing. I like my coffee hot, and it seemed that this barista had not quite got the coffee:milk ratio right this time. What did make up for it was the great service. The guy who took my order was super friendly and happy, putting me in a good mood too! And I personally love the all black cups, makes me feel, I don't know, like a spy or something haha.
