Boulder climbing requires no ropes. Thick mats provide as safe cushions to drop and fall.

Sometimes it helps to do things that require strength and concentration to get your mind off distracting thoughts. If you agree, you might want to challenge yourself by climbing boulders and improve your grip strength! Dogpatch Boulders has varying degrees of boulders and people here are quite respectful to each other's space. It's also pretty clean, which is a great plus! There are also some weights and treadmills available for workouts.

What can I say, I have a love affair with dogpatch boulders. Awesome bouldering (bouldering only) spot isn't he Bay Area. I try to go to a touchstone location if I'm traveling, they just always have good community everytime I visit one. Staff is friendly at this location and it's always clean. Climbers here are down to earth and don't hog the wall. Some will even give you tips if they see you struggling. Supplies such as first aid, lotion even pads/tampons in the women's restroom are available. Parking is tricky, there is street parking available just be prepared to walk a block or two. I like this gym better than mission cliffs for bouldering. Monthly specials: free entry if you go in with a member of first Friday's. Membership is $90 a month or $29 day pass with a member. They tend to have other deals such as zero initiation fees from time to time. Come in and ask !

First time going here on a Wednesday morning around 730am. It was not busy at all and I was able to climb anything I wanted! I paid $30 for a day pass, shoes, and chalk. The front desk person said to avoid afternoons because it is super busy there, so mornings are much more preferred. The boulders are color coded, so you can figure out which level you're at and which boulders to climb on. They have a large space, so you'll have lots of opportunities to try different ways of climbing. I maxed out on V2. Anything above that was too hard for me! They also have a gym there, but it's a bit basic. No machines, just a squat rack and free weights. No cardio machines. Would come back!

Such a big, clean, and welcoming climbing gym! There is a yoga studio, and part where you can lift weights as well. There is a competitive climbing wall and a wide range for beginners to advanced. This was my very first bouldering experience and I drive one hour just to come because of the nice staff and wide variety of routes.

Came to climb for the first time ever! This place has plenty of climbs and lots of space for people. There's even a little lifting gym in the back! As a power lifter, definitely new found respect for these climbers cus my hands are raw, tender, and calluses all ripped :)

My friends and I came here to try rock climbing for the first time. We bought a day pass and it was $30 per person. They have V# on the wall indicating levels from beginner to intermediate. The matts were very soft to fall on. They also have a gym so you can take a break and start exercising. Locker rooms are available and they have pads, tampons, band aids , lotion , hand sanitizer etc. The place was very clean and friendly staff

    So many corners to explore

Upon visiting Dogpatch Boulders for the first time, I noticed that it was very busy on a Thursday night. Despite the crowd, Dogpatch Boulders is a great place to climb. It is a large gym with many levels. There are also varied equipment so you can work out. Be prepared to wait for others to finish their chance at walls after a work day and come a little earlier to find a parking spot if driving here. I am a new member of Touchstone Climbing. Although I prefer ropes, I know I will come here to boulder more often than not. I came in for an introduction to bouldering class and I think it was helpful. You should just take the class even if you think it is not necessary. Staff were also helpful. Overall, 10/10!

Best bouldering gym ever!! It deserves all the stars and more. The setting is actually so good and creative. I never run out of problems, and there will always be a challenge. It does get crowded after work and on weekend mornings/afternoons, so just be aware of that. On top of the main climbing area, there is a gym with 5 racks, an adjustable Kilter board, 3 spray walls, a campus board, many hang boards, and a fitness area upstairs. Everything one needs to get super strong!

He's also a dog lover and took great care of my dog while I worked out. Even gave him some treats which was super sweet of him!! I was initially worried I might not have access to the same equipment I had at other locations due to the smaller space but that wasn't an issue at all!! They also have a bunch of stuff to aid in recovery that I didn't know about. Ryan recommended the inflatable compression sleeves for my legs. I had never tried them before and he walked me through putting them on. Highly recommend this gym and am grateful for Ryan!

About a year ago, they had a policy of onsite lane reservations, which is the right thing to do if you don't have online lane reservations. You had a clear start and end time, could plan your workout, and actually get a full swim in. For some reason, they've stopped doing that. Now you show up with no idea if you'll even get a lane, let alone finish in time to get to work. They're also allowing three or more people per lane, which is just unrealistic. Once a third person joins, it stops being a workout and turns into traffic management. You can forget about flip turns entirely. The lane speed designations don't help either. Most people are on tight schedules and aren't going to wait around for the "right" lane to open up. They also block off a lane for personal training, which is understandable, but that lane could still accommodate another swimmer. Decisions like this chip away at what's supposed to be a core service. Most pools in the city allow reservations. You can reserve a lane. Some even have a no show fee which totally works. you can't trust humans to so the right thing here because they in most cases won't. Bottom line, the lack of reservations and overcrowding make it impossible to plan a consistent, efficient swim. It turns something that should be straightforward into a daily gamble.

A standout for me is Vince's Wednesday boxing bootcamp class. He's charismatic, fun, and will have you sweating, feeling strong, and totally badass. There's also a private massage room with a HydroMassage bed and a Hyperice station with all the tools, plus a giant screen showing calming nature scenes, perfect for recovery. Carlos has helped me build both my confidence and my strength! I look forward to going to the gym He pushes me in the best way but still makes it feel approachable and doable. There seems to be a nice community in this location as well. All the trainers greet you with a smile and it genuinely feels friendly. I was a member of this location for over a decade, and since moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I can honestly say there is nothing quite like it. The nearest one to me now is in Atlanta, and I still miss the San Mateo club regularly. This location has everything you could possibly want in a fitness facility--and then some. The Fitness Floor Downstairs is a beautifully air-conditioned workout space designed for people who are serious about exercising. No distractions, no crowds hovering by the windows--just a clean, focused environment. You'll find: * Full weight training equipment * Recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills * Dedicated spin, Pilates, TRX, and group fitness studios * A large open stretching area with foam rollers * Cold, filtered water stations throughout * Staff available for spotting if you're training solo It's efficient, professional, and thoughtfully designed. Locker Rooms & Amenities The locker rooms feel more like a boutique hotel than a gym. They are consistently spotless and fully stocked with: * Plush towel service * Spacious showers with teak benches * Steam rooms infused with eucalyptus * Complimentary razors, Q-tips, and personal care items * Premium Kiehl's products It's luxurious, yes--but also incredibly practical. You can comfortably get ready for work, dinner, or travel without feeling rushed. The Rooftop Pool One of the standout features is the heated rooftop pool. It has multiple lap lanes, cabanas, and water aerobics equipment, and it truly feels like a mini country club in the middle of downtown San Mateo. The pool is heated year-round, which means you can swim in any season--something you quickly get spoiled by. They even provide sunscreen from Supergoop!, along with full towel service. It's those little details that make the experience feel elevated. Classes, Spa & Services The class offerings are extensive and easy to manage through the app. Signing in is seamless--just scan your phone and go. Highlights include: * Yoga in a beautiful bamboo studio with HEPA filtration and ceiling fans * Pilates (available as private, duo, or small-group sessions) * A full-service spa on the upper level * A juice bar and retail shop featuring premium fitness apparel Everything feels intentional, polished, and well-maintained. Location & Convenience The club is located right in the heart of downtown San Mateo, making it incredibly walkable. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and cafés nearby, including one of my favorite bakeries and specialty markets. Parking is also surprisingly easy for a downtown location: * Two-hour validation * Surface lot, garage, and rooftop parking options That convenience makes a big difference in daily use. Value & Membership Yes, membership can be expensive. However, many employers offer corporate discounts, which can make the cost more manageable. In my case, the value absolutely justified the price because I used the facility regularly and took advantage of the amenities. Even when I relocated, canceling my membership was straightforward and professional--no pressure, no hassle. Bottom Line Equinox San Mateo set the standard for what a fitness club should be: clean, thoughtfully designed, service-oriented, and genuinely enjoyable to use. If I ever move to another city with an Equinox, I will join again without hesitation. Because at the end of the day-- life is short, and you should live well.
