Now I have no excuses to fit in a workout everyday! Not only is the location super convenient but the staff was super friendly and showed me where everything was. The workout rooms are located in different parts of the building which a bit different than most gyms but I can't complain because I'm just so excited at the convenience of this location. I highly recommend getting signed up to use the EGym system that tracks your progress on many of the cardio and weight lifting machines on the second floor as it helps gamify the whole experience. The YMCA also uses an app where you can reserve a spot for the classes that are offered which I also recommend doing as many classes are popular and fill up. Changing rooms and bathrooms are kept very clean. Staff are generally helpful and the place welcomes people of all ages. Also with the YMCA membership you can go to other YMCA gym locations in the area which has been a convenient option for me as well. Overall definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a solid gym in the area.

I get all of that at fBf, and I appreciate their commitment to the environment (bringing my own water bottle to reduce waste is fine by me). It's always impeccably clean. The equipment is in good working order - if I see an out of order sign one day, that machine is nearly always up and running the next day. And everyone I've worked with from the day I signed up has been lovely and accommodating. If you're intrigued, I would say go and check it out and see if it's a good fit for you.

I really wanted to love this gym since it's convenient and is a small business. However being a…read moremember has proved to be disappointing and I ultimately left this gym. Here are the main issues I had- -It's very cramped and can therefore get busy fast. -The cardio area in the front doesn't have enough air circulation or purification. However purification and circulation are a problem everywhere there. -Members regularly show up sneezing, coughing, and with runny noses. -The gym is unattended most of the time, and when staff are present they're glued to devices. The gym's own basic rules just go unenforced. -The equipment is regularly dirty and sweaty. The vast majority of members do not wipe off equipment after they have used it (much less before they use it.) And staff absolutely does not pick up the slack and clean off sweaty machines or provide even gentle reminders to members, in real time. Feels gross and makes it too easy to pick up colds, flu, Covid etc. -If you accidentally forget your water bottle you'll be totally out of luck! They only provide a bubbler- no cups. -There is not composting or recycling throughout the facility. Only the two cans by the entrance offer sustainable options. -Using their platform was difficult both from a cell phone and via the Safari browser. Like most other people in the Bay I'm an iPhone user so this proved to be inconvenient. -They milked me for another month when it was time to cancel. Their cancellation process is not straightforward and bought and you can be charged an entire month's membership, even if you cancel several days before the regular day your dues always deduct. It's a common feeling that if you cancel before your monthly renewal date, you should not be charged on the next renewal date. So to me it seems like their cancellation process is confusing and also is poor business practice, plain and simple. Really the only major perk here was that I could walk here. Ultimately this business might benefit from some local competition. I really don't recommend this gym and hope for Bernal's sake that they make some serious changes.

I was a member a few years back and decided to re-join a month ago with my husband. The new location is much nicer, with more space and a glimpse of the ocean out the window. Marty and his staff are awesome, and they have all the essentials: treadmills, ellipticals, a rower, and machines for every muscle group. It's never crowded, and everyone is so nice. The location is beautiful- step outside and you're at the beach. Perfect!

Never any staff there in case of problems like beings locked out. Cant get ahold of owner during normal business hours and constantly acts like he is being bothered if you report broken equipment or anything Fitness SF is better anyway. I was going to keep both but the owner of this gym doesn't reciprocate loyalty Go here if you wanna get locked out randomly and repeatedly and belittled for making perfectly reasonable complaints. Im sure he will reply here claiming i am the problem but fyi all i did was say "im sick of this" and i think anyone would be after repeatedly getting locked out despite paying $125 a month. i see people having issues with getting locked out basically every day. The owner is aware but choses to not staff his gym or switch software systems The floor uses foam tiles so when you try to wheel the benches around they become dislodged and jam and create hazards. The owner makes rash decisions like putting 100lb dumbbells on a rack not suitable for such heavy weights so they fall on your feet, he is too stubborn and gets overly defensive if you try to point out any issue, and tries to deflect (its always the members or the staffs fault, never takes responsibility or ownership)

I corrected her quickly and then she went on to ask me questions about transgender identity. Not quite sure that your workplace is the place to ask me for a free education, but whatever. She is new and obviously doesn't know what she's doing and at the end of our conversation when I'm about to pay she starts misgendering me again. This is when I walked away. Y'all are not getting my 99$ a month plus a 150$ return fee (they said they didn't have the capacity to reduce or cancel the start rate unless I came back to speak to a manager on Monday.) The dude training her at the front seat was like a post in the mud and did not move to correct her even when he saw I was uncomfortable, he just kept moving scissors and junk around in the front desk as he stood by. I'm not going to pay so much for a gym that hires people with the intellect and personalities of wet noodles. No thanks! Planet Fitness looks like the better option in terms of cost. It's really sad because the staff at the YMCA Embarcadero were really diverse and cool about 6 years ago, I hope that hasn't changed. You're both getting five stars but got different reasons, but both have really made the best of their footprint to maximize their space. +Mission Cliffs (MC) change up their routes on a rotating basis and with much more frequency. They now also have partner climbs (5.11- on the left, 5.10+ on the right for two climbers and two belayers!) - while i love/hate the MC double overhang in the corner and the slightly higher number of true stemming routes, +Movement (Mvt) has some very unique and fun features like that monster stalactite, more aggressive "pretend you're Stallone in Cliffhanger) overhangs and way more in the way of slab practice routes (which are NOT my forte indoors) are various ratings from chicken sh-- to "i totally trust my toes" + not for most but crack climbing. I think Movement has easier practice routes for first timers and those who are angry at their palms being TOO supple, but def more variety at Mvmt, but the cracks in the cylinder at MC are truly a level up. - - both have very limited free weights space/benches compared to your normal "gym" gym and you might find yourselves adding a second membership or using your building or friends building gym between climbs. Both also have small footprints and get very busy even outside of peak times ++ amazing classes though at both + see the bulletin at Mvmt for when shoe resoling comes onsite. A+ perk to arrange that onsite. ++ both have tons of community get-togethers ranging from theme nights to run clubs to game nights (last two at Mvmt) though MC started a group puzzle activity (pictured) and love the MC memorial pins for their 30th anniversary (pictured too) + Both have study areas. Mvmt is more of a lounge, MC is a short scramble up from the bouldering. Slight edge to Mvmt but kinda cool that MC requires approach shoes ;-) + love love love the music at MC (Dan is the man), Mvmt is much more "eclectic" but some of the 6am EDM covers by Ava Max could be skipped (sorry). Did love that the next morning it was Bach concertos and Mozart sonatas and i think the same staff. Again "eclectic" +/- Check-minus MC for transit accessibility (not the worst walk from BART) but parking is rough; + Mvmt for parking (though paid by meter after 8am), otherwise great if you're running or cycling from Cow Hollow Both have deals for new sign ups so keep an eye on those. Summer discounts, January discounts/no initiation fee. + way more generous bring-a-friend options at Mvmt (unrestricted plus one each month on top of free days), come on MC! Don't give us bad wedding flashbacks! Everyone loves the option of a plus one (just make sure you take some photos without that person in the shot... just in case... aka HIMYM "who's that bi---???") ++ MC resets like crazy but in a very organized cycle giving you a few months tops to complete your projects; Mvmt ratings are slightly more accurate but MC is starting to migrate away (especially in the new bouldering (pictured) rating approach. Still MC is the Northstar of local climbing difficulty (suuuuure this is a black diamond/suuure this is a 12a) but come on, at this age, I need that ego boost!!!!! In the end, the best gym is probably the one you can get to the easiest and where your most reliable climbing buddy(ies) go(es). Both are gems and we're lucky to have them. And yes... now I've accepted that I'll just have a third gym membership and stopped doing one dinner out a month.

I just jumped on the elliptical. The best part of this gym is that there aren't a lot of people to fight you for equipment. I still remember waiting around or strategically timing my gym visit at the Club One in FiDi because there are a lot of people using the equipment during certain times. Security at the building really discourages outsiders from coming into this gym. Equipment is pretty up to date. There are 4 tvs playing different channels. I watched food porn on the Food Network while doing cardio. Plenty of towels for you to use. Everything works in the locker room. The best thing is I don't have to walk blocks to go to the gym like I used to. I just hop on an elevator and I'm there!

Also, randomly, a ping-pong table. Worst part: so far, laundry service has lost my socks and my underpants. Repeat: my underpants! I've taken to tying a knot in the bag to be safe. Dislikes: sq footage of the free weight area is on the dinky side, but I haven't felt crowded out. No TVs, so your eyes wander with no place to land, much like sitting on Muni with those seats that face each other. Also, the wealth of government employees with job security means a lack of lockers to rent. The one I was able to get is a dinky one on the bottom row of a bank of lockers OUTSIDE the locker room. If I had another gym in the area to consider, I would, but there aren't any. But, the staff is nice and it gets the job done.
