We have been boarding our dog and sending her for daycare to the Barkmont for about 3 years now. It…read moreis a fantastic safe place for her and a good price given other options (many more expensive options don't even have playtime included!!). She always runs right in when we drop her off and we can tell she has a lot of fun when we watch her on the webcam. Her latest stay was 2.5 weeks and while she was exhausted when we picked her up from playing so much she is very healthy and happy. In situations where our travel plans have delayed us in picking her up, they have always been incredibly kind and understanding. We started adding walks to her long stays so she gets some individual outside time in addition to all day inside playtime. I have nothing but good things to report about the Barkmont and they make being a dog owner in the Bay so much easier. I also think they are just really good people, I heard they now partner with local pet rescues to give their foster dogs some socialization and love. Makes us feel good supporting them. Picture is from home but the boarder in question.

At the other facility, Ollie for the first time displayed separation anxiety. The first time he did so, I thought he was just a bit nervous. The second time he had that look in his eyes that said, "do not leave me." Recently, we returned to the Barkmont. There was and continues to be a completely different response from Ollie. HE CANNOT WAIT TO GET IN THE DOOR AT THE BARKMONT. He absolutely loves the staff - professionals who are all very loving, kind and tender with the dogs. I should add that Ollie is somewhat of a higher maintenance dog - a 2-year-old 80 lb Samoyed who is an attention hound. I really like that the Barkmont has cameras so that you can log into to see how your fur baby is doing during a stay. The dogs are constantly monitored by staff who are in the various rooms - to ensure that no one gets out of line. Alot of additional services - meals, walks, bath etc. Kirk and Amanda - the owners both love dogs. They have provided in my opinion the VERY BEST DAYCARE FACILITY in the Bay Area.

My dog isn't crazy about other dogs. Doesn't want to play. Afraid of, and aggressive towards bigger dogs. At 12 pounds ,that's pretty much all dogs. Dom and Huey came over to meet him and assess how he would fit in. They were certain they could easily integrate him into their pack. They definitely made an effort to ensure he felt comfortable with them and with the other dogs. Fast forward a couple of years and my dog is calmer and much more at ease with dogs in general. My dog loves Dom and Huey. He's always so happy to see Dom when she comes to the door to get him. He always comes back from his walk happy and exhausted. The types of walk vary between leashed and off-leash and they have an arrangement so they have a dog park all to themselves a couple of times/week. This makes me really happy because of my dog's history of unpredictability around dogs he doesn't know. Communication with them is professional, easy, quick and clear. Whenever I have a question or need to check their schedule, I hear back from them right away. I board my dog with them when I travel and they keep me posted on how he's doing (including texting me photos). I love that I can check their Facebook page to see what the dogs are up to during the day. And when I expressed some concern about the increase in my dog barking at other dogs on the street, they said they noticed it too and talked to me about how we could address the behavior together. I really couldn't be happier with them, and neither could my dog.

Update following the owner (Suzanne)'s response:…read more I appreciate the business taking the time to respond. I want to clarify a few points for transparency and for prospective customers considering Happy Hound. My concern was never the existence of a first-day assessment fee, but the value delivered. I have used dog daycares across NYC, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco and have never encountered one that charges more than a standard daycare day for a first-day evaluation. In many cases, the first day is complimentary. That context shaped my expectations going in. When I called to book, the 3:00pm time slot was the only option presented to me by Happy Hound. At no point during booking--or after the tour--was it communicated that the daycare credit would apply the same way regardless of whether my dog attended for a full day or only a couple of hours. Without that clarity, it is entirely reasonable for a new customer to assume that paying for a full day would result in receiving a full day of care. That is where the communication breakdown occurred. I am not disputing the sequence of events shared in the owner's reply. My concern is with the policy itself--specifically, requiring payment for a full day of daycare while not delivering a full day of service when scheduling limitations come from the business. The outcome was that I paid for care my dog did not receive. A prorated refund for the unused portion of that day would have been a reasonable, customer-oriented resolution. Sharing this simply so other prospective customers understand how the onboarding process and policies work in practice.

I am writing a negative review about Metro Dog. I initially reached out to them for boarding…read morebecause I am traveling for vacation week. About two or three weeks ago, they scheduled me for an initial assessment, where they would assess my dog and figure out the best place to put him. I told them my dog is very vocal but that is normal for his breed (hes a husky). The assessment went great, my dog did very well, and he stayed there for half a day. Additionally, I was told to get him the canine influenza vaccine, which I did. The week after, I scheduled him for doggy daycare to get him used to it. The visit went well. They told me that my dog did great. He was vocal at the beginning, but he settled in. I said great. Nothing else was said to the contrary. The week of my vacation, I check the portal. It said my dog was still on the boarding waitlist. I called to confirm that he would be boarded and checked to see if they saw his updated vaccine record. They placed me on hold for a while until the man who did the initial assessment came on. He informed me, much to my surprise, that since my dog is still anxious (he barks, which is his normal), they would not be able to board him until he has a few more visits. I am very disappointed at Metro Dog. I feel like my time and money were utterly wasted. I followed their protocol and got my dog used to this place, and they declined my boarding request at the last minute. I now have to scramble and see if I can find another boarder for vacation. I am also very disappointed at the lack of communication. If I had not called them to check, I would not have known that he was declined. I received no indication that he would not be able to board by Metro Dog. I wanted to love this place but I am so good on Metro Dog. I hope this review can help others and push this place to be more communicative, honest, and upfront with fellow clients and their fur babies.
