On Wednesday, June 16th, we boarded our three German Shepherds at The Dog Bar, on Grand Island Blvd, in Grand Island NY. On DAY 1, they sent me a picture and video of my dogs. As they mentioned before, this was part of their standard protocol; but of course, I didn't receive it until I called to ask how they were doing first. If it is part of their protocol, why did I have to ask how they were first?
On DAY 2, Thursday June 17th at 11:30 pm, I got a call from Jason, the trainer at The Dog Bar, informing me that was "told" that he had to notify me that one of my dogs supposedly jumped their 8ft fence (which is actually only a 6ft fence - The trainer said that 2 ft is in the ground). He mentioned that she jumped the fence with her prong collar and her leash still attached; he assured me that he would find her, and not to worry. My dog is not a jumper... The next day, he claimed that he looked for her all night but couldn't find her. Again I had to call and ask about my other dog's, their welfare, and to get a picture of how they were doing too. I had to keep calling for updates on all my dogs! When I asked both Jason and the owner, January, if they were out looking for Sophie, or if they even had a plan to get her back, I was told yes, but they need to take turns. The other people involved in her rescue didn't come to help. I asked her to confirm that basically, no one was actively looking for my dog that escaped from her care in the first place. I was told that they still have a business to run, so her and Jason were taking turns looking. She also mentioned that they also needed to go home to get some rest, take care of their own pets at home, do errands for the business, etc.. I immediately asked exactly what their plan was. Jason said, "well, I'm not sure, because your daughter and a trapper (Sherlock Bones) are out looking." I reminded Jason that he failed to keep my dog safe, now she's missing from their facility, and they are not helping. Both Jason and January had different views on what should happen since Sherlock Bones said NO search party due to how scared my dog already was. January said they are two separate businesses, as he is just the trainer. Jason told me January thinks very differently than him. Jason told me that he needed me to tell him what I wanted him to do. It is either a large search party or not. Thankfully my daughter put a great team of family together, and they were actively searching. They had even seen our Sophie under the overpass and approaching the thruway. My daughter ran down the overpass, in which she put her out life in jeopardy to get my dog off the thruway. During this process, my daughter even fell and broke her foot, but kept going and was successful at getting Sophie back from the thruway. Her family team had a great perimeter set up but couldn't maintain it since January's team failed to show up after work to help. January is the president of a well known rescue in the area, WHY did no one else come help? Why did she not create a public post to her following asking for help? After zero help from January and the facility, Sherlock Bones and my daughter then had to team up to actively do the looking since I was out of town miles away and The Dog Bar was now not helping. This was not my daughter's responsibility, to begin with. But no one from The Dog Bar was searching for my lost dog after day 2. So, my daughter brought in Sherlock Bones to help. They were GREAT, especially since I was in panic mode since I was not able to be there any sooner. We did return home early, as it just made no sense for me to stay there since I was on my phone the entire day and night while my family was doing everything possible to find my dog. We ended up back in town around 3 AM, and I began searching for my dog. Figuring the owners of The Dog Bar would be at the facility at 6 am to start letting the dogs out and taking them for their first walk, I went to retrieve my other 2 dogs to help search. While I sat waiting, I saw the one employee exit the facility and walk one of the dogs, then another, and then a 3rd; she allowed them all to do their business on the property of Fantasy Island and not even pick it up. I was then waiting for my dogs to come out for their turn... after a half-hour passed by, the employee never brought my dogs out, so I decided to go over there and ask her if I can just have my dogs so I could use them to help search for my missing dog. When I pulled up front of the building, there was a little white dog wandering outside the front of the building. Just then, the employee walked out. I asked her, if that dog was supposed to be in the building? She said, "oh my gosh, yes! That's Judy... I don't know how she got out again!" Suddenly, the dog ran across Grand Island Blvd towards the Brick Oven pizzeria, nearly getting hit by a truck. The employee took off after him. Just as she got to the curb she began calling the dog. The dog then started to come back toward the read more
