From the owner: Folly Field Home Boarding is a unique home from home dog boarding establishment…read more The visiting dogs are able to run free in a large securely fenced garden and field or they can relax in our home. I say we are unique because only the most very special dogs can stay here. Also living here are our own dogs, cats and chickens. Life is always fun and everyone gets on. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside with fantastic walks to go on and lots of things to sniff and see. I walk with you and your dog to help get to know you both and you can do this as often as you like. There is also the change to leave your dog for a couple of hours to see if they like it. When staying your VIP (very important pooch) can send you updates on what they have been doing, so you know they are safe and enjoying themselves. In their busy stay in between walking, playing, sleeping and making new friends the visitors make cards to take home. It all adds to the fun! All you need to now is book a meet and greet and you and your VIP can see how you like it.

The vets here are fantastic and have a good bedside manner, or tableside manner I guess it would be, or kennelside? Anyway, parking is difficult round here and thankfully they have some spaces available across the road to park so you don't have to heave your sick animal too far. If you do have an appointment, remember that traffic on the Cheltenham and Gloucester Roads is appalling to dead still at most times of the day so you will need to factor that into your commuter time.

The location is pretty residential so you would need private transport to get here, especially if you were carrying a pet. They do have a carpark at the front, but a peak times this will be full.

It might seem incongruous at first as it is situated in a huge Georgian buolding that once stood in it's own quiet grounds, the essence of graciousness. Now it is redolent with squeaks and chirps and bubbling of water tanks. Set over several floors, there is a good supply of just about anything you might need for domestic pets - food, bedding, cages, toys, treats. It is always fascinating to watch the many different small fish swimming in their tanks, and upstairs on the first floor you can see small rodent type pets for sale - hamsters, mice, guinea-pigs. Small children love to watch the little creatures as they await a good new home. In fact, there is so much packed in that the customer floor space for humans, especially around the main tills, is rather limited and narrow and often involves a bit of a shuffle. The assistants are always very busy and helpful, but for I sometimes wish they could wear more distinctive 'team tops' as I've almost mistakenly asked customers for advice in the past, believing they worked there! All-round though an excellent store for all your domestic animal supplies.

I'm pleased to say we have a reformed pooch who can sit calmly through an entire set of dogs running agility, and he's pretty good at it himself! Julian and Lorraine own a couple of fields by their country house and work there as well as at Stover Road in Yate. They have a nice new hut for obedience and clicker training, and the fields are permanently decked out for agility - with floodlights for winter lessons. Agility is £5 per group session (you will get about 5 runs in each hour long lesson) or £15 for an individual lesson. You can hire out the field as well if you just want to practice alone but it is hard to see what you are doing wrong so a lesson is advised! Their behaviour sessions are £35. Julian and Lorraine have taken agility dogs to Crufts before, and Anna who uses the field to teach us is currently a Crufts regular with her dogs so you know you are in good hands. There are a few levels of classes, so if you just want to start out as a bit of fun then find a space on a beginners group and see where it takes you.
