She acted like answering basic questions was an inconvenience and moved at an unreasonably slow pace despite the office being completely empty. An empty waiting room should have been a red flag--and after reading other reviews, it's obvious this place has a pattern of poor service. This was not a one-off bad day; it's how they operate. To make matters worse, they seem more focused on overcharging than actually helping patients. There was little to no effort to work with insurance, which feels intentional and predatory. I went to a different DoctorNow location, but they lost my appointment. Desperate to get a pre-surgery physical done before it was too late, I contacted this location for help. The girl at the front desk initially said it couldn't be done because these tests take time. While she wasn't wrong, I explained my situation and begged for an exception since I had a flight the next morning. She told me to rush over but rudely added that it was my responsibility in the future, then hung up on me. Despite her attitude, I was grateful she agreed to help. However, after arriving, paying the deductible I was told in the doctors office they wouldn't do what they promised. They knowingly had me speed to their location during a fog advisory (check the dates!) just to waste my time. To make matters worse, the receptionist hung up on me several times, and her rude, dismissive behavior was appalling. Her friend at the desk wasn't any better. By the time I left, I was shaking with frustration. Later, the doctor called me personally and was nothing but kind, understanding, and professional. It's a shame such a great doctor is overshadowed by an incompetent and disrespectful front desk staff. Their behavior was unacceptable and completely unprofessional. The experience on the day was good, just needed an antibiotic. A month later, I notice Doctors Now has taken $250 out of my bank account. I never received a bill, never authorized auto debit, was not informed on day of service that my insurance was not accepted. I called the clinic, lady was extremely rude and said she could not help me. This was at the Johnston clinic. I called the main Doctor's Now billing number and am awaiting a response. Got a text today saying I owe $150 more dollars, grand total of $450, for an antibiotic. I got no paper bill breaking down my charges, no response from the billing person in West Des Moines, had to call the main billing department and file a complaint with my bank. ​ read more

SCAM ALERT!!!!! Go anywhere but here. They charged my young adult son $175 for absolutely nothing. Just told him to go to the ER for blood work, after they assured me on the phone they could help him. When I called and requested a refund, Kristin said, "Once our provider enters the room, we charge the full fee." Fortunately, my son's credit card company reversed the fee. This is the "doctor" who didn't call me back, after I left repeated messages with her staff. The blonde is the physician's assistant who scammed my son out of money. i called and made an appointment for 5:20pm. I showed up 5 minutes early 5:15pm, I waited until 5:50 to be brought back to the room. after they took my height and weight. I sat in the back room for XX minutes until a doctor finally showed up to examine me. they asked what was wrong, i told them I believe I have strep throat or walking pneumonia. the receptionist who has brought me back and was asking these question said "I'd better test you for covid" I haven't had Covid ever. I get strep throat and pneumonia often, so I wanted those tests. he refused to give me them unless I took the Covid test. when he gave me the Covid test, he gave be a DOUBLE nose bleed from both nostrils, to make me listen to him or something? after that he refused to give me a test for pneumona, just strep throat. but then he shoved the test down my throat saying "say ahh" well I can't speak if my throat is blocked man! horrible experience here. Then they refused to give me medication for my sickness after telling me I have strep. And was told to go somewhere else for medication. The doctor advised that he had submitted the prescription at 9:26am and never set the expectation that they were busy and that it would take longer for the prescription to be sent over to Walgreens. After wasting an hour and a half of my time only to be told by the extremely rude receptionist that they were busy and gave me no expectation as to how long it would take for the prescription to be sent over to walgreens. I understand if your busy, but set the correct expectations and you won't have any issues. I took my dad there when the wait at Unity Point Urgent Care was hours and hours. We got in right away and the Doctor was great. He was in charge Mercy? Emergency room for years and then wanted more normal hours so started Doctor's Now. He was great and all the information was transferred to his regular doctor. read more

The only reason I chose one star is because it's forced (which is stupid btw). I went in for a sinus infection. 10:45 am, not a soul in the office. I was quickly helped by the receptionist who had about as much personality as a cup of yogurt. After having vitals taken by I'm assuming a CMA, the doctor came in. Worst doctor ever. After telling her my symptoms for fifteen seconds she recommended I get a shot of prednisone in the "rear end" in her heavy southern accent. I politely declined that offer. She then prescribed a nasal spray and walked out. As I was gathering my things to exit the exam room (she left the door wide open) I watched her go over to her desk roll her eyes and say "what a fake" to a male co worker. I would rate this location a 4-5 based on the doctor we saw and the overall process was very quick. However, the receptionist at the front desk was not very welcoming or friendly. In fact, I felt like as soon as I stepped up to the desk she may have had a personal vendetta against me. I tried to figure out if she knew me or just was having a grumpy day, but I later read a review comparing her personality to a piece of bread or a pancake or the like. That's accurate. She came off as rude or like she didn't care if she might lose her job even in that moment. It was a Saturday night, so maybe she just wanted to get home. Very unhelpful, just out to get make more money with more visits. I went to Doctors Now West Des Moines clinic for Cough and Sore Throat. The nurse examined me and said that i don't need any medication. She said that i should call in 5 days if the cough does not ease up and said that she would call in a prescription. I called after 6 days when cough worsened and asked to speak to the person that examined me. Some other person called back claiming that i did not have a cough when i visited and i need to visit again to get the new symptoms checked before they do anything. I had better experience in the past in a similar situation with other urgent care clinics. I am never visiting this clinic again. I expected that they would provide better service as it is a smaller company establishing in the area. I am going to find and visit a different clinic now. read more

Absolutely horrible service at Ames DoctorsNow. I went in for a drug screening. Which by the way is time sensitive. It was walk in care. I waited 30-45 mins after I got checked in because the nurse had "stepped out" to go shopping at Hyvee. Completely and utterly unprofessional. I work in health care and have for couple years now. The importance of patient care should be a top priority for any health professional. The drug screening was time sensitive issue. The receptionist had to call the nurse 2 times while I was there to let her know to come back and still the wait was so long. I don't recommend anyone to go to doctorsnow if this is how they run their business. They don't give importance to their patients like they should. Instead their time is more important. I am of the mindset that those working in any type of customer service should be warm and welcoming. This includes in the Doctors Office. My first and LAST visit to this clinic left much to be desired in that aspect. The receptionist gave no polite welcome, no smile, no voice other than dull and bored. She was the same way with the person in front of me. Then I was called into an exam room by an equally unimpressive nurse who instead of weighing me or taking my temperature simply asked my height and weight. Wouldn't it be a good idea to get an exact on weight and also know if I had a fever? After taking my blood pressure and offering no sign of a smile or friendliness I was told the Dr would be in shortly. Finally someone smiled! My Dr came in and shook my hand while smiling and making eye contact. He was friendly and courteous. I went in for a bug bite that had made my whole foot swell up so the fact he never actually touched my foot, looked closely at it or made sure I wasn't running a fever still seems a bit odd to me but overall the Dr was pretty good. read more
