Cool place literally in Waukegan that has ice cream. Dockside is of course located at the marina. It makes for a good stop after going to the beach in the spring or summer. Has some charming old vintage advertisements to look at. There's actually more than just ice cream, as they also have sandwiches and other things. Basically this is one of those seasonal places that closes when it gets colder. It's the closest place to the beach to get anything to eat. There's actually two buildings for this business, across the street from each other. Certainly the cereal is the main thing to get. It's about $3 for a small cup, not bad prices. Has quite a few flavors including Italian ices. There's also a grill so they make hoagies and other sandwiches. Has other sweets like cotton candy. There's one table inside and a few more on a patio. Hands down the greatest ice cream you will ever have comes from this fun sized building by the Waukegan Harbor. Dockside Ice Cream is pure magic. Everything is made from scratch and the secret ingredient must be love. It's a walk up building. You order from one window and pick up at the next. They have lots of different flavors that can be switched out so you never truly know what they have in stock but whatever is in stock for that day is absolutely delicious. Cute mini ice cream shop. Getting Dockside ice cream, dockside dogs, and walking the pier is the best part of summer.

I think my 10 yo godson gobbled up his waffle cone in like 5 minutes flat! It was that good. His mom and I took our time taking bites inbetween chatting but trust me I coulda gone back for seconds!! First check out the daily menu posted in the building... then check out the board with the explanation of each flavor. So nice especially if you have allergy concerns or just plain old don't like some ingredient! If you are not from the area ( my friend and I met as half-way point between Milwaukee and Chicago Western Burbs), it's worth the drive. It's right on the Marina and you can talk a walk out to look at all the boats or walk on pier out to the small 'light house' (not sure if it's a lighthouse lol) Bonus... there's also a hotdog stand next door and looks like they now have a beer garden and live music too! Tip: Stay cool on a sunny day and enjoy your icecream on the picnic tables located under the canopy of trees! Nice and shady cool. read more

Sweet couple that run this place. Ice cream from Cedar Crest which is like the most delicious brand of ice cream this side of heaven. The owner is so nice I just love going there. Double scoop chocolate waffle cone was a reward to myself for a long walk down to the harbor. It was delicious and almost more than I could handle. The folks here are super nice, which is the norm when I visit Lake and Cook Counties. One additional note: it was raining when I finished my cone, so I called for a Lyft. A very small ice cream shop located next to Dockside Dogs stand, in fact the small raised porch used for seating attaches the 2 places. They have about 15 flavors with my favorite being the cherry-chocolate chip. Nothing fancy here just cones and a few sundae items. Open only during the summer and does pretty good business considering it is located in an out of the way, hard to find cul-de-sac. read more

I like this little place. It's a cute location and they have real scoop ice cream which is nice. The ice cream man was nice and the place was intimte with a homey feel. There's very little room to sit inside but there was outside seating which is better becsuse it gives you a better view of the water. I do wish they had more ice cream selections and toppings to choose from. they had basic flavors with a couple of cool ones thrown in i would like them to do more with that. This is one of the first places we discovered when moving to Waukegan and it's become one of our favorites. There's a wide variety of flavors--enough to keep us curious all summer. (Well, really until it gets too cold out for ice cream in the fall--I think we were there in October yet. And portions are generous. Nicely made on-site custom waffle cones; and it's great to sit outside at the umbrella-covered tables or along the docks. High school and college students usually work the counter and have alwasy been very courteous. It's nice to get to know them and they do remember you! read more

Adorable little ice cream place tucked away in the harbor plaza. The interior is pretty small and can get crowded at times. Really enjoyed their black cherry and java bean flavors. There is a plenty room for sitting outside as well as some picnic tables across the street. Service was great and everybody seemed genuinely happy. This place has great flavors and you get your money's worth with the ice cream scoops, which are pretty big. The staff here are polite and hold nice conversations with the customers. The atmosphere in the shop is chill and the view to the docks and water next to it is a huge bonus to an already great shop.
