And then, once I'm there, spend the entire time, battling nerves, trying to pretend I'm fine, am like everyone else, not sweating through my clothes. Trying to act like shots of any kind don't freak me out. Add to that, that my mouth doesn't always seem to respond to the freezing the way it should. So, more often than not, I am not 100% frozen which ends up being quite painful and embarrassing. I recently returned to Victoria and had walked by Dr Pite's office quite frequently while walking my dog. Once I passed when the staff was coming back from lunch. They were laughing and seems happy, like they enjoyed their work and each other. I went home and checked them out on that MD rating site. Really good reviews. A couple days later, I was walking past with my husband and I said, Let's go here. We went in and made an appointment for a cleaning and check up. We filled out questionnaires and although I was a little nervous, it was only a cleaning. I am very good with hygiene and was hoping there would be no need for drilling or shots etc. Two weeks later, around a week before our cleaning, I bit into a wintergreen lifesaver and broke off my tooth! Panic. We called the office, but they are closed on Friday. We left a message on his cell. Keep in mind we were soon to be new patients, had never met him personally. Well, he called back and came in to the office to see me that afternoon, and filed down the sharp bits so I would be comfortable. He was very kind. The next week he was able to prepare my tooth for a crown. And I was very, very impressed. Like crazy impressed. He knew that I'd had bad experiences, he explained everything he was going to do, he jiggled my cheek for the shot and so it barely hurt and put the medicine in slowly so again it wouldn't be as uncomfortable. He checked with cold to make sure it was frozen, because I could still feel he gave me another jiggly shot, this one I almost didn't feel. He didn't start until my tooth was totally, totally numb. He offered me music which was a great idea and I was able to focus on that instead of all the drilling and noise. And it didn't hurt at all. Another first. It was the best dental experience of my life. I am 55 and for the first time, I don't feel afraid to go to my dentist and I'm real glad because he is young and that means I'll probably be dead by the time he retires and so I won't ever have to be scared again. If there was a ten star thing I could click on I would do that. Was the most stress free dentist visit I have ever had.

Dr Pite and the staff were caring and I can't say anything bad about the overall service, but in the end, the success of the procedure is what matters. So I just want to make future patients aware that for this specific type of surgery that is a gum graft, I would recommend to see a periodontist who has more experience with this type of procedure.

I feel badly for that, but unfortunately every day now is Saturday and I don't wear a watch, but still that is no excuse. Type of care - I always have dental work performed at Element Dental. They don't sell glasses, unless of course they're from the lost and found however I've yet to find a pair that has my prescription lol, so yes dental work is what I have done at my dentist office. Care and quality, second to none. I've never felt more comfortable, respected and didn't feel like I was someone that just had to go in and pay a lot of money to have an extravagant cleaning. Most dental offices, you feel like you're on conveyor belts of would you like this, would you like, record show you're due for x-rays, you have already used all of your units this year and we're only halfway through it, so everything will cost you out-of-pocket from now on! How would you like to pay today? Ok and that's just in the dentist chair, wait until you get to the reception How would you like to pay today sir, debit card, credit card or cash, no checks, please. In all seriousness elements dental in my experience in the three years, I have been going there, are second to none. I'm very happy that I came across when Idid. My previous dentist was retiring and did not think it was necessary for someone of my age or as he put it, "people our age, should be grateful, we have our original teeth in" lol. I wanted my three chipped teeth bonded, and thus is how I came upon Elements Dental. So, not to name anyone in particular, gratitude goes to the entire office, the dentist, the hygienist, the office staff, they have all been fantastic! These days it's a real treat to go to the dentist. PS, it doesn't hurt to bribe them with dessert treats every now and then either. Haha Don Coulson

Frantically calling all of the Dentists on the map, When contacting the office I was sent to voicemail (where I was afraid of a delayed response) left a message with Elements staff wherein I described my situation. Within in 1/2 hour I received a call back that the staff had a cancellation and I could receive exam and subsequent treatment just 4 hours later. I am now back at our accommodations where the numbing has worn off. My pain, after nearly a week trying to hide it, has gone from 11 out of 10 to I still haven't taken the recommended acetometaphin or naproxin sodium. I know I will I just don't want to until absolutely need too. Dr. Evans and Dental Asst. Kim were very in tune with everything. From my fears to my expectations. In addition they assured me that they could get me through the procedure today. The team skill displayed during the procedure was very very good. No communication necessary when 2 thoroughly professional clinicians practice their craft. I'm not sure they talked at all during the procedure and I was wide awake. Kim kept me informed of everything during the procedure before it happened. I was impressed at how the Dr. Evans allowed me to feed off of his Assistant's energy as she was extremely positive and upbeat from greeting to goodbye. It was also very reassuring that he had no need to interrupt or correct his Assistant at any time. A testimony to the hours they've spent working together I'm sure. They are an exceptional team. The type of care was genuine and compassionate. So far the quality of the care has been exceptional. And I wouldn't have had the procedure performed if it hadn't been for the wonderful people at the reception staff who immediately filled in an opening with me. My son lives here in Victoria and I will be recommending that he go to elements dental with his family. In summation I could not give this office a higher recommendation. As extreme as my situation was the single most notable takeaway from this office was their compassion, from the phone call to the doctor, to the receptionist whom originally helped with her callback and heard I was checking out, came to ask "If everything had gone OK." If you're really afraid of the dentist. If you're in pain from dentistry that needs repair. If you want to be treated with compassion and care, true care, make an appointment at Elements and asked to be in the care of Dental Assistant Kim and Dr. Evans. My recommendation comes with its highest regard. PS ..... still no real rush to medicate with OTC pain meds. So thankful!

I had an extremely unpleasant and stressful experience with Dr Yen at Mayfair Dental Clinic…read more Dental visits cause me anxiety at the best of time, and due to his actions, my anxiety has significantly increased. In my opinion, he has no patience, empathy or understanding for patients with questions or concerns, or may be nervous, and should not be working with patients. He did not provide me with the information to make an informed decision for an urgent procedure. Following my panic attack at the dental office (for which I was left in the waiting room while having the panic attack around other patients, and told "You will be fine" when I clearly was not), I was referred to a oral surgeon. The oral surgeon advised the procedure was complicated and should not have been attempted at the dental office. The potential complications were clear to the oral surgeon, as he took the time to actually fully examine the x-rays and explain the procedure to me, including the potential issues. I am terrified to even think of what would have happened if the procedure had been attempted at the dental office. Not only were the actions of Dr Yen unacceptable, I was left feeling embarrassed and humiliated as the staff did not offer me any privacy while I was having the panic attack. I provided the dental office with an email describing my distressing experience and how it has affected me. The office has had several business days in which to acknowledge or respond; however, I have not received any acknowledgement. This reflects poorly on Dr. Yen and the entire dental office. Based on my opinion and personal experience, I will encourage everyone - current or potential patients - to look elsewhere for their dental care. The entire disastrous experience and lack of acknowledgement of my concerns has left me with an opinion of little confidence in Dr. Yen and Mayfair Dental Clinic, and served to significantly increase my dental anxiety. If you value your dental health and safety, my opinion is to avoid Dr. Yen in particular, and Mayfair Dental in general if this practice is their standard of care.

Had cleaning done by a hygienist "Leanne" working for Dr. Fund and Dr. Yen on December 10,2019…read more The hygienist was actually BRUTAL. I have NEVER EXPERIENCED as much PAIN as I did during this procedure - and that is with two anti-anxiety pills I took before the procedure and over 5 freezings or more throughout the procedure. I was so traumatized that it took me over a day to move from being shocked to the anger stage. Seven days later I am well over it, but I sure wish to warn others from going through what I did. She put a freezing gel before the needles, and before the gel deadened the area, she jabbed the freezing needle in. I thought I would wet my pants. Freezing worked on the nerves for the teeth, but left the gums totally unfrozen. I thought I would pass out when she measured the gum recession in all the teeth at the very end. I could feel my heartbeat in my gums at the end. At one point I bit the hand of the hygienist as a reflex reaction to pain, not that I ever meant to do such a thing. My lower jaw was shaking uncontrollably at one point. None of these signs made her aware that I was at the top of my pain limit. NEVER AGAIN!!! This commentary should not reflect on the dentists at this center, for I have been going here for years, and the service from Dr. Stankhoven has been absolutely amazing, even with phone follow-ups at home after some serious dental work.

It was understood by our appointment that we were going to Dr. Girard for just an exam and consultation. My wife had the first appointment. The dental assistant proceeded to tell her that Dr. Girard makes all of his patients have a cancer screening and a new set of x-rays taken. My wife said that they (Oaklands Dental) have a current set of radiographs that were previously sent to them and didn't want a cancer screening as both her and I are non-smokers with no history of mouth cancer. Dr. Girard arrived and said that he requires all of his patients to have a yearly cancer screening (NOT covered by any insurance) and yearly x-rays (most insurance companies only cover x-rays every 2 years). My wife declined and again told him that we are only going with what our insurance will cover and not interested in paying for something we don't believe that we need. Dr. Girard was agitated with her and continued to "up sell" her on what he wanted to do without listening to my wife explain that she just wants an exam. During this time, she texted me this dialogue as I was sitting in the waiting room. I approached the receptionist and asked why the doctor is demanding a cancer screening every year. They said "we do this to all of Dr. Girards patients." I then told my wife that we are done and I was approached by Dr. Girard and he was angry and agitated and caused me to question him in a forceful manner as he made me feel highly uncomfortable with his actions (body language, facial expressions, etc.). He would not listen to me and we just turned around and left. I have to say that this dentist was the most unprofessional person I have ever met in my life. Honestly, his "upselling" and trying to push extra, out of pocket expenses on new patient's is despicable. He acted like he use to be a fast food worker who got paid by up-selling fries and a pop so he could get more money in his pocket. A fake, dishonest individual. We are now in the process of filing a complaint against this guy with the BC College of Oral Health Professionals.
