We visited this delightful winery as part of a private wine tour with Taste of South Australia…read more Unlike tasting rooms in the states, this one was no charge. We tried a wide variety of their wines including: -Verdelho - excellent fruity white wine -Rose- light red and tastes of raspberry -Little demon blend ( cab+Malbec) - delicious raspberries and chocolate - Malbec - very dry, fruit forward - K.i Shiraz - tastes of the sea (our least favorite) - Lime cave cab -typical big cab, earthy - Eocene ancient vines Shiraz -balanced and rich - really good. Prices at the winery were very reasonable ranging from $23-$40 per bottle. The quality of the wines could easily support higher prices if they were available in the states ( which unfortunately they are not ). Super friendly people round out this great spot. Recommended.

What is not to love about a winery in winter that has a wood fire going??…read more Upon entry we were greeted by the cellar door staff who apologized that the fire was not as warm as it should be, he didnt force us to have a tasting but more so just let us be as we walked around and just took in the place and the scenery. There is a lot art work around the place which you can wander through in your own time. The wine selection is nice and the staff are knowledgeable about the varieties. I did enjoy these wine more so a few years ago but in saying that you cant go past a glass (or bottle!) of Church Block. They have cheese and crackers for purchase if you want to have more than just a tasting where you can sit inside next to the fire or outside. They also have a box of toys in the cellar door corner to keep little people entertained.

So glad my husband and I stumbled upon this absolute gem!!! We originally came in looking for a tasting of a few reds. We each did the red tasting, which consisted of a Pinot noir rose, Pinot noir dry red, cab Sauvignon and their flagship Shiraz. All of the wines were awesome! So awesome that we decided to join the jockey club to receive a case per year (yes....so good that we are having the case shipped across the world back to the USA!). The jockey club comes with tasting notes and recipes paired with each wine/vintage. Such a cool and fun way to experience the wine. After joining the club, we also each got a half glass of the shiraz (more like a full glass) and got to try a few other wines that we would be getting in our shipment. Loved the atmosphere of the cellar door and appreciate it is family run. The winemaker, his wife, and daughter were all in the cellar door talking to us as well as the locals grabbing a glass. What a wonderful spot and family-run business. Highly highly recommend stopping in here!!

There's no denying that I love Shaw & Smith's M3 Chardonnay, so to go and drink it at the source…read morewas a highlight of a recent trip to the Adelaide Hills. I knew in advance of the $15 tasting fee, which was okay by me because I then knew I wouldn't feel obliged to buy something. I normally always buy something at a tasting, as I visit places that I'm sure I will like and that will offer a selection that I can't buy at my local bottle shop. In the case of Shaw & Smith, I can buy the M3 just about anywhere so I knew that I wasn't going to buy any there and that the other variatels probably wouldn't rock my world as much (related note: I was surprised to hear that Shaw & Smith sell mostly Sauvignon Blanc! I believe the said he made for 70% of their sales) At $15 for a generous tasting of four wines matched with cheese this is a great afternoon snack stop. They're pretty flexible if one of your party doesn't want to taste the full range or is driving. What really sets this tasting experience apart is the gorgeous view. From the moment you arrive, you can set your peepers on rolling hills, carefully manicured lawns, vines and a lake filled with birds. The walk up to the tasting room feels like a procession and to be greeted warmly when opening the door was great. Inside it's all very clean lines, almost clinical, but I liked it as an alternative to the ramshackle wood and rustic charm that we normally experience at cellar doors and enjoyed the minimalist setting for what was a relaxed tasting.

Their logo is a left-handed boxer. They also have a bit of whimsy in their labels with most of the varieties having an association with one or more members of the family. We enjoyed meeting the friendly folks and tasting their great wines. Some of our favorites were Blue eyed boy and carnival although all of the six or so we tasted were great. They have some distribution in the states (unique among the wineries we visited) and a warehouse in California for ordering through a website. We also had a quick peek into the winery itself with a guide. We had to don fluorescent orange safety jackets in compliance with safety regulations even though there was no activity underway in the place. We did get to try some wine in the tanks getting ready for final blending and bottling. Definitely a high point of the six wineries we stopped to visit during our visit to the area.

This cellar looks almost like someone's home. It probably once was and has now been converted into a Cellar door. There is a cute little gas fireplace upon the entry. Check out the photos. Very inviting for sure! It has a very simple layout and tasting room towards the back. Throughout the cellar door you will find cardboard cut outs and posters on display of the various characters and art pieces for the wines. Each have their own story. Be sure to ask about them. There are a lot of wines here to try! So, be sure to set aside a bit of time to try them all. What is first attractive about the wines is the thought and stories attached to the imagery. I am a sucker for cute art, so you won me there! As for the wine, I think my favourite was The Maitre D, Cab Sav. It had a lovely deep berry smell and was quite smooth to drink. Priced right and is my recommendation here. I really wanted to try the Velvet Glove (with a really cool Velvet Label), but it was unavailable for taste. Dang!

Although Chapel Hill Winery does have a lot going for it, this was not a particularly stand out location on our latest visit to the wine region. We had booked and were running late, for which staff were fantastically accommodating but it just felt like we were any other group. The corporate 'big winery' feel made this place feel like it could be just any winery. I think the main issue was that the lady serving our tastings was a bit overwhelmed but it would have been great to have been told a little more about the wines rather than have had them poured and then walked away from. Great location but customer service needs a little work. The wine was arrrright too.

Seems the Langhorne Creek Wine region is a secret to most South Australians, yet a 20 minute drive from Strathalbyn and your there. Being one of several wineries in the region it's a day out without the crowds of McLaren Vale or the Barossa. Lake Breeze is a family affair run and operated by the Follett Family where the greeting is heartfelt and the smiles are genuine. Here you can taste the range of wines they produce in the Cellar Door or sit down in a gorgeous setting, overlooking the vines, and enjoy a light meal. Weddings and functions are also catered for. The menu consist of: Trio of Dips $12.00. Cheese Platter $24.00. Lake Breeze Platter, (local meats and cheeses) $30.00. Soup of The Day with warm, crusty roll $12.00. Pumpkin, Ricotta & Walnut Cannelloni $15.00. Beef Pie & Salad $16.00. Chicken Pie & Salad $16.00. Lemon Curd Cupcake & Coffee $8.00. Now I must vouch for the cupcakes as I am a fan. Being a connoisseur of cake the Lemon Curd Cupcakes are divine and made by the loving hand of Janine from the Winery. None fresher, the cup-cakes I am referring to! The food is (mostly) sourced from the local area which in turn helps the small businesses who operate in the district. More recently accolades flowed in the Langhorne Creek Region Wine Show winning Lake Breeze in last 5 years: Champion Wine 4 times and amassing 17 trophies from the Show. For example: Champion Wine of the Show - 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Best Cabernet Sauvignon - 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Best Shiraz - 2010 Winemaker's Selection Best Sparkling, White or Rosé - 2012 Chardonnay Best Museum or Fortified Wine - 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon & Producer of the Year. Now to be honest I am not a big wine drinker, it's my liver not I who chose that decision however I believe a trip to Langhorne Creek to sample a wine that suits your palette is well worth it. Even if you, like myself, don't partake to sit upon the deck, and sample some local produce, on a sunny Autumn day is well worth the petrol money.
