Be sure you bring the 5 pieces of identification requested to prove you are who you say you are just so the customer service employee can STILL spell your name wrong. Fun times at the DMV when their system goes down and they can't correct THEIR mistake. It get's better....instead of letting you return as a walk-in later to get said mistake corrected, you have to schedule a brand new appointment and wait all over again. Fax info listed on the website ends in 50 but the person assist me @ this DMV informed me that it's updated and it ends in 51 therefore the fax that was sent from my insurance didn't go through. Same individual provided me an email info to send documents (see pic) that I provided to my insurance company and when I tried sending some documents to the email provided it came back undeliverable. Went back to the DMV today and I can say by far window #3 Ms. M. Amed did a great job in caring for the customer. I was turned around the previous day because of a technicality (not on my part from another employee), but she did her best and I was able to register my vehicle within 25 minutes. I have been to plenty DMVs, but I will say by far she has the best customer service out of any DMV visited. She explained each process and gave an overview of the services completed by her in the end. If I could give her 10 stars I would. She deserves a raise. I have been in customer service a long time to include being a director, and her attitude and attention to detail is exactly what I would expect in a stellar employee. It provides terrible services. VA DMV in Lorton services Head C. Hernandez asked for Virginia tex receipt, which has never existed, when the agency tries to verify a true address. When the Fairfax county governmental document--"Fairfax Tax Bill" was presented by a client, she said it was not a Tax receipt. Thus she claimed that it was not an official document to verify a client's address. The truth is that the county government has never replies tax payer with "Tax Receipt" after tax being paid. It has been only official Fairfax tax document. She won't listen to clients explanation. What an incompetent manager, she made the entire VA DMV look bad as she denied a legit request for ID on the spot and avoid the government mission to provide its service to the people. I took my youngest daughter here for her permit test. It was ver quite when I got there. It as after school about 3:45 ish. We brought all the documents that they needed. They got us a number and we sat down for about 15 minutes and they called our number. We went up and pay the $35 fee. We sat down again and patiently until they called us again. She passed and told us that the real permit will be arriving in the mail in 10 days. read more

Holy cow! This was the fastest trip ever to the DMV for me. I went in to title my new vehicle on a weekday morning, and they had me in and out within 20 minutes. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and were able to communicate what i needed to do to get my vehicle registered. It's a shame that other locations cannot use the Lorton one as a model of how to do it. read more

I have been to 4 different DMVs in Fairfax and Loudoun counties in the past 2 years - HATED all 4 of them. ***Notes to this rating: Maybe because I arrived at this DMV very early at 7:50am before it's yet to open on 12/30 when a lot of people are already on holidays and stay far far far away from the DMVs. I only waited 40min to get to the counter. A really friendly and efficient experience followed. I actually got out shortly after 15 min or so.***On a separate note: I deeply appreciate her help and I don't know why. ~_~ Maybe because I was burned in my past "relationship" with the hateful DMV. I went today to renew my driver license. The window called me and a Phllippinian or some where like that person helped me. I said how are you. No answer And heads down. Didn't wake me me how I am doing or thx for waiting. Anyway, after I said how are you and don't get a respond. She asked me why you here when do you want. I said I want to Renew my license with the gold star. She said where is your proof of address I said I have my statement and she asked me agin where is your proof of address any way she was very rude. I've used this DMV as my go-to even though I live in Woodbridge. The lines (when they have them) move swiftly and the service personnel are helpful AND courteous. Other locations I've been to have had less than courteous personnel. I was renewing my vehicle registration and total time with the people inside from walking in to leaving was 25 minutes. It was the most horrible experience I have ever had at this DMV. I walked in to renew my license waited for an hour in line to come and find out that I needed my SS card in hand in order to renew my license. I don't know if this is a new protocol but it was very upsetting being 7 months pregnant standing in line for an hour and boom they hit you with that news and now I have to go back another day because they were about to close. It should be sufficient to have the other documents needed but just one document missing and I cant renew my license because of that? That's completely absurd read more

I have been in three different Virginia DMV and nothing changes the posted wait times are complete BS don't believe the wait times. Virginia DMV is the model inefficiency, manually complete paperwork to have someone enter it in a computer, WHY? A truly lousy experience. I went there because the names on the title for my vehicle were spelled wrong. The lady at the information desk said that they could not change my father's name even though I had my power of attorney paperwork, his birth certificate, drivers license and social security card with me. She eventually agreed to give me a number/ticket so I could discuss the issue with a staff member. Waited one hour and fifteen minutes to see someone but had to leave to run other errands.
