I started going to David about two months ago after seeing a woman walking down the street as I drove by. I'm a guy... I discreetly checked her out. As I got closer I was little shocked to see it was a long time friend. She looked great. I almost didn't recognize her. Later she told me she'd been going to David. In the midst of some weight loss myself I decided to give him a call. I've been very happy with him and his training program since the free consultation. He is certified and reasonably priced. He has a full, well maintained gym on site (treadmill, recumbent, squat rack, cable plate machine, kettle bells, plate sled, etc, etc, etc) and uses all of it to create a tailored but varied routine. He focuses on strength, balance and endurance with many range of motion and core group exercises I wouldn't have ever tried had I just joined a gym and started throwing weight around. He has also been very willing to work around an injury I have and his research is in accord with the advice given to me by my doctor on specific limitations as to not re-injure myself. He works his training into my larger exercise program since I want to work out more often than I can afford one on one training. He has a lot of ideas regarding nutrition and diet which he is willing to share without proselytizing which is nice. As I get into better shape I'm taking baby steps and don't need it all rammed down my throat at once. He also listens to my feedback and adjusts the program accordingly. He's knowledgeable, easy going (no screaming in your face) and creates a personalized program that builds on itself. I can't say more about David. I love working out with him. I started going to him early last year after spending the previous 8 months going through chemo and steroid treatments for Lupus. Through that process I gained a staggering 80lbs and on a 5'4" frame that was not cute. David went above and beyond, taking the time to learn about Lupus and recommended some things that he though would help in a more holistic way, but never pressuring me to do or try anything . Being the stubborn person that I am I was kind of resistant and didn't heed all of his suggestions but working out three days a week I began feeling better. The weight started coming off and I began to try his "life style" changes. I will tell you that it was not fun or easy for those first few months but it has defiantly been worth it. So far I have lost about 70lbs and have gone from a size 18 to a 10. I am completely off meds and now in remission and I owe a lot of that to getting physically health which I never could of done with out him. I have hit a bit of a plateau on these last 15lbs but every time I see David he pushes me just a little more. He changed some of the workouts even tweaked the diet. No two workouts are ever the same and he does a lot with body leverage which for me is really important because of lupus. He as also incorporated Running yoga, free weight in to almost every work out in some capacity, I have never felt so strong and I look so much more toned then I did even when I weighted less. Even with an injury he has never once gone easy on me but works around the injury while still working out the area. I would recommend David and do all the time. He is affordable and his gym is really more of a fitness studio clean and well kept (thanks to Lisa). It is a place that I have never felt intimidated working out at. I recently started training with DMSFit's newest instructor Sarah. Wow! I couldn't be more thrilled. She brings such passion and knowledge for physical fitness inside and outside of our sessions. She's also the instructor for DMSFit's Saturday Bootcamp classes. She constantly changes the exercises, and is great at catering to the individuals in the class. So often in group settings you don't feel like you're getting the attention from the instructor. I have had one of the best weeks at work and I owe it to Dave! In one day I had 4 different people and then the next day 2 more people, comment on how I look great and keep up the good work!!! I have been working with Dave for a few months now and as I mentioned above it has really paid off! I saw DMS Fit listed on Craigslist a few years ago when he had a different studio location, but I never made the jump to email and then commit. Then one night, I was at the bar across the street (Templestowe) and saw that he had opened up a new studio location. I told the people I was with that, I no longer had an excuse. David is an amazing trainer! I started exercising later than most do, due to a heart condition. I was diagnosed, put on medication and given the green light by my Cardiologist to exercise at 46 years old. David was patient, kind, and his level of expertise is very impressive. I felt welcome and comfortable from the first day. It took time and lots of patience from David working with me but my body has transformed for the better and despite battling a couple of rare nervous system disorders and fibromyalgia I have been achieving goals I never thought possible. I can't say enough great things about David. I found him for my boyfriend and ended up going to him myself. I decided I needed a trainer after the Chicago 10 ( similar to the freshman 15) happened to me. He has been a great help in getting my body back into shape and I have not looked this good in years. Great and affordable personal training option for those who are looking to get motivated to get in shape. Dave, the owner and one of the trainers, really helped me to feel strong and ready to workout after a difficult pregnancy and a c-section. He was extremely accommodating to my ever changing nursing schedule, was very supportive of my attempts to loose weight and, in general, made me want to get back into working out again. This review is long, long overdue. I've been with DMSfit instructor Sarah for 1.5 years. Sarah is the *perfect* instructor. She is very in tune with what I can handle, how far to push me without causing injury, and makes every workout interesting. Sarah has gradually made the workouts more difficult. I am considerably stronger and have more stamina. I really like the equipment at DMSfit - it's the right mix of free weights and machines (rowing, stairs, ladder, treadmill). Just over 5 months ago I was feeling sluggish, chubby, tired and unmotivated. My 40th birthday was around the corner and I was 5' 10" & a whooping 191 lbs. I needed to be held accountable. I had a great experience with David. You can tell this guy really enjoys what he does and is passionate about it. I have had decent personal trainers before. However my past personal trainer would sometimes play with his phone while I was working out and he was not very good at answering a lot of my questions. Not David. David gives you all of his attention while working out, and he pays careful attention to your form the whole time. He also will give you very specific and detailed information regarding your food intake in relation to your workout goals. As soon as I told him what I wanted to achieve with weight loss, he emailed me a detailed list of how I should be eating. I was in the Navy before, and at first felt like he was not pushing me hard enough. However to my surprise, I began to see results immediately. Which to me just proves to me that he knows what he is doing. My boyfriend also started seeing David, but for the opposite reasons, in order to gain weight and muscle. We both saw results and were happy with him as a personal trainer. This is a much better experience than getting a trainer at your local gym. LIke others have already said, David/DMS FIt is really great. As I was getting close to a significant birthday, and realized that I was huffin' and puffin' going up more than a flight of stairs, I decided it was time to do something - and that something was going to have be getting some professional help getting in shape. I have been working with DMSfit for a few months now, and while I can only make it once a week, I have seen serious improvements (like no huffing and puffing). As my crazy schedule has moved my times I can get there to various times of the day during the week, I have met some of his other clients, and one thing that really impresses me is that David works with a lot of different people - all shapes, all ages, all levels of fitness. As someone who does not have a gym body, and is not a spring chicken, I feel comfortable going there - and, it seems, so do the young 'uns with the gym bods and everyone in between! I started working out with David in late June of this year. I had all but given up on losing weight. I began disliking the way I looked and after numerous fails with other trainers and workout programs, I decided that it couldn't hurt to try one last time. He doesn't just tell me something and expect me to believe it; he actually backs up his statements with proven facts. I bought a dress a year ago and due to my weight gain was never able to wear it. First: David is almost certainly the most gracious and thoughtful person you'll ever meet. Second but equal: David is a fantastic and dedicated trainer. He listens to your goals and tailors your workouts accordingly. He is meticulous about form, teaching you along the way about how to improve on your own time and within your own limits. He will never make you feel that you haven't done enough or that you're a long way from where you should be; he meets you where you are and inspires you incrementally to up your ante as you define it. I've been training with David for about six months, and while the sessions don't feel super intense they yield results and teach you how to sustain strength training and avoid injury in the long term, whether with him, at a gym, or on your own. Most importantly, David instructs his clients on fundamentals of fitness and nutrition and offers practical and constructive feedback to incorporate into workouts at the gym or home. Since I started training with David, I've surprised myself with my willingness to challenge my preconceived notions of my limits. And his rates are incredibly reasonable. 5 stars doesn't even do David justice - both as a personal trainer and a fantastic person. I started working out with him in February to get myself in shape for my move out to Los Angeles this month. I didn't necessarily need to lose weight but I was looking for someone who would help me strenghten my core and tone and tighten my body. I found David on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. I arrived at his home where he has his workout facility in the basement. It's not a fancy environment so if you are looking for eucalyptus towels and a steam room this is not for you. It was just perfect for me. I personally would rather pay an extremely reasonable rate for a top notch training session and go to the spa for those things. First and foremost, David happens to be one of the nicest and most sincere people I have ever met. He takes the time to gain an understanding of your goals, asks about any injuries and truly customizes the workout for you as an individual. He truly takes an interest in your overall well being and is thoughtful and helpful in every way. David is also a wealth of knowledge when it comes to good nutrution. In such a short period of time I noticed a big difference in not only my body, but my eating habits. I have worked out with trainers in the past and I remember dreading the workout sessions at times. I would be beat up by the end. But, working with David was the complete opposite. I looked forward to every session with him and felt stronger walking out then I did walking in. We always had great conversation along with a great workout. I was in the midst of a relocation and times were very stressful. David always was in tune to me in terms of my emotional and physical state and customized the workout perfectly each time. I have some back issues from time and he was careful to always make sure I was not in pain or injuring it further. I love that amazing roller stick gadget he has - feels so good on sore muscles. I had to change my appt. times due to my travel schedule and David was also flexible to work with me. He is also a complete gentleman. He walks his female clients out to their cars and always tells you to "Be Safe". Guys - take a lesson from David. I am now in California and I SO miss my workouts with David. I have not yet found a trainer so I asked him if he would be so kind to send me a few notes so I could do some excercises on my own. He actually made me a personalized video workout routine and put it on a diskdrive and sent it UPS. Pretty amazing huh!
