We hired Derek's company to demo the living room ceiling and the outside walls of our 250+ yo house. After the ceiling was down he said he could leave the beams exposed! I was over the moon happy. Was going to cost a whole lot more, but this house needs exposed beams. Next, he was to insulate all the outside walls and living room ceiling, frame it out so he could leave the beams exposed, plasterboard and plaster all, and repair the cracked walls that were not being replaced. I pretty much stayed out of there due to the amount of dust. Thought all was going well (it wasn't) until the plastering was done. It looked like a plaster bomb went off in there. Never covered the beams, so there's plaster all over them, plaster ground into my floors, window and door trim hacked up, gouges and high spots all over the walls. You can even see and feel the mesh tape through the plaster around the entryway door. All that and a broken window, too. He has sent 2 people back here to try and get the plaster off the beams. They were unsuccessful in removing it all. Shouldn't be a drop on there. If he had only done basic prep work and protected those beams...those beams we paid thousands of extra dollars to leave exposed. Second guy filled in some of the gouges, but missed a bunch. Still plaster all over the walls, wainscoting and my hacked up trim. And Derek thinks the job is done and I should just pay him the balance due. I have had negative experiences in the past with certain contractors who deem projects too small or not worthy of their time and effort but DM plastering is not one of those contractors.
