What a terrible, awful business! I have been working in academia for several years now and now and…read morethen I look for a good proof-reading editing service. I came across www.write-chicks.com (great name right?- NOT!) and emailed them regarding their services. That's when the nightmare began. So unprofessional! First on their website they charge $2.50 a page which is total, absolute nonsense. I have a PhD and I had a very good proof-reader/editor who only charged me $1 a page which is very professional and extremely reasonable. I think even $1.50 a page is reasonable. So right off the bat I was annoyed. When I emailed the website asking for a lower quote, whoever runs the website was extremely unprofessional and rude. First of all, if you consider yourself a true proof-reader/editor- you NEVER, EVER misspell a potential client's first name. That is just totally dumb. Talk about giving me confidence in your abilities. To be fair, I did point this mistake out to them and the person (whose name I don't even think was a real name- just a first name and no last name, oh and get this- the email also had no name either, just write-chicks@yahoo.com, why are these people hiding?) Then the fun kept coming. This person informed me that they spend a lot of time proof-reading and editing and could not go below $2.50 a page (I had a total of 26 pages to edit out) even though it really was not that much work. So we argued online and finally I just said thanks but no thanks. Sounded like a complete ripoff. You have to make a payment through Paypal and then after that you have to send the manuscript. So basically once they have the money, they have absolutely no need to do any work. After you have given them your very hard-earned, sweaty, crumbled cash you have to wait around for whoever runs this website to send you back the edited document. Doesn't sound like a very professional or ethical way to run a business. Their website sucks a very fat and hairy you know what too. Very basic and bland website. No names, no credentials not even pictures or references of whom these people are. Terrible! So long story short- you want good editing or proofreading? Don't trust these guys. I personally would not even bother with anyone at all online since you cannot trust the website. Ask your friends to edit or proof-read. Try a law school or an English major. Plenty of college campuses offer free services. After all, once you hand over your money, do you really think you have any enforceability for your work?

I paid for the professional package. I had a 30-minute consultative call to discuss my existing…read moreresume and received a (very) rough first draft 3 days later. The first draft wasn't what I expected and I could tell that Executive Drafts and I were not aligned in terms of my expectations and what they could reasonably deliver. Yes, it's an iterative process, but the language, style, and substance of the resume was so far off from what I expected that I didn't necessarily want to proceed any further. I reached out to inquire about *potential* refund options. I was not expecting a full refund nor did I feel entitled to one, but I was curious what kind of refund options were available to me since services were only partially rendered. I reached out and no response. I followed up again the next day- no response. I had to send 3 follow-up emails over the course of 3 days and only then did I receive an acknowledgement of my initial inquiry. Definitely professionals at work here. The owner responded with a VERY lengthy e-mail and rather than acknowledge that Executive Drafts may not be a good fit for everyone's needs, he instead challenged my judgement of what a resume should and shouldn't be. He continued to say that most of the work was done and complete.. but then mid-way through the e-mail said that the first draft was only 50% complete and there was still work to be done to arrive at a fine-tuned final product. So... which is it? I responded, and guess what? No response. If you're looking for any semblance of professionalism, I would suggest you look elsewhere.

I hired this company to help rewrite my resume. It was a mistake on my part. After the consultation…read moreand first review I felt the resume writer did not understand what was needed to promote my resume for the jobs I was seeking. I had a recruiter review the resume, and she actually rewrote with me writing the introduction. I was very pleased with what we came up with and have had several interviews based off of what I did myself. Save yourself the money and ask a recruiter or employment service to help you with your resume...they will know far better. Ultimately I would not recommend this business to anyone, and definitely would not use again. It was a waste of money.
