Some of the workmanship was faulty and shoddy and I have been fighting him tooth and nail to get him to do anything to fix it but he refuses to even look at the work! Poor workmanship, shoddy workmanship, no customer service, no warranty is what you'll get. He was careless in protecting our homes existing surfaces getting paint on our hardwood floors, our daughter's new bedroom furniture, and built in shelving, and he put very large scratches in our banister. He said he would fix these things - never did. He is unable to manage large jobs. Lots of yes, yes, it will get done, but then you come home everyday and wonder what work was done that day. No accountability. Beware if you are paying for the materials - that's one of the tricks played at Calgary Fun and Function Bathroom Renovations - Pete Palffy says its to save you money, but really its because he will throw it back in your face later saying "the materials are defective" and not honour any warranty for you. But he won't tell you there is anything wrong with the materials before they are installed (because there isn't anything wrong with the materials - its just one of his tricks). How can I explain how the project manager Adam kept to a schedule, instilled a friendly and positive work environment for all the skilled carpenters and speciality journeymen that worked during the renovations. Adam listened to concerns; saw issues that we never would have noticed. The cabinet installer and his wife were experts in their field of instillation. Now to the tile layer for the floor and back splash. My backsplash was a very complicated shape - the matching and installing was done to perfection - I could say beyond perfect. Hats off to Robert the electrician and his friendly crew who had to climb up in the roof , deal with the wiring from 60 years ago and still got excited when hanging lights that came from Sweden and Denmark. Oh I can't forget Lena for working on the design of the kitchen and had to deal with me - who had some very specific requests. I need to add one more important item - we had our vents cleaned this week. The vent cleaner come to us at the end and said - whoever did your renovation - they were the cleanest company we have ever cleaned vents after a renovation. Yes they cleaned everyday after working. We hired Trent and his crew in spring 2013 to renovate our basement in Evergreen Estates and, after having interviewed several other contractors, felt an immediate comfort and trust in Trent and his company. We were not disappointed! Tree Island is a company with integrity and honesty and they did exactly as they promised. All of the crew were courteus and professional and displayed excellent workmanship from framing and drywalling right through to painting and custom built cabinetry. In fact, it was so bad, that we needed to take the entire garage down, remove the pad and rebuild everything from scratch. Ryan took on this challenging project, coming up with novel ways to disassemble the existing structure so that it could be rebuilt after the pad was re-poured. He and his crew were efficient, timely and did an amazing job of turning a completely botched job into a winner. On the night before our inspection, Ryan remembered that he had forgotten to install one header, and came out in the driving rain at 9PM, in the dark, to install that one piece....and did it with a smile and a chuckle. We requested the receipts so we could deal with any warranty issues that would arise and were told they wouldn't provide them. Robin told us instead that they would deal with any warranty issues and we feel that is unreasonable. We should have to go through an intermediary to deal with a warranty issue if we don't want to. It just seems like a strange way to approach it, to me. It makes me wonder if something is being hidden. I'm not saying they are, but it just makes me wonder. Our experience may not be typical of what you get from Robin Rutkowski and RR Consolidated, but I would advise you do your due diligence.
