My son said this place was good! We're on a classic Hawaii food tour. Can't skip box lunches! Quick service, walked up ordered and was handed a box. We decided to eat in the parking lot as there is no dining area. The food was good! Nothing fancy, just classic okazuya style food. A must try when heading to the beach in Kauai! Solid grab and go spot!

Cone sushi, half a hotdog, small ass corned beef hash & a ridiculous small ass fried chicken

So disappointed with the portions. You wouldn't expect to be handed your plate and it feel like it doesn't have anything in it. We ate here about 3 years ago and it wasn't this sad small of a serving per item. There was no food out to see or photos so we didn't know the portions would be so sad. The chicken especially was mind blowing. Only the Cone Sushi taste decent, the sad piece of chicken wasn't good, the corn beef hash was mushy and it was a sad half hot dog. Lady was so rude, you can tell she doesn't like her job or wants to be there. Born and raised in Hawaii, traveled to all the islands and ate at a lot of locally owned businesses and have never been treated this poorly. So disappointed!

The food was pretty good for what we got. Mac salad, rice and side dish of the day were good. The proteins were had a hot dog, a slice of egg omelette, one piece of bbq beef, 2 chicken tenders, half a corn beef hash patty and one thin slice of spam. The portions in the box were definitely on the smaller side--more like bite-sized servings, which was a bit surprising compared to the previous photos. I was expecting it to be more filled, but honestly, it worked out fine since it was perfect for a plane ride. That said, we were missing the additional egg roll we ordered, but we didn't realize it until after we'd already left. Lesson learned to double-check before heading out! The service was great, though. They took our order over the phone and were really friendly when we arrived. It wasn't quite ready when we got there, but they were quick to pack up our box and get us on our way. As for the atmosphere, it's to-go only, so keep that in mind. Grab your lunch and find a nice beach or park to enjoy it! I'd definitely give it another try next time I'm in the area--hoping for a more complete order and maybe a little more bang for my buck. Overall, not a bad experience, just a couple of small hiccups.

Po's kitchen was one of a few places open in the morning where we could take out some food and bring it back for breakfast. Best thing is it's right next to a donut shop where we can get donuts too! The order is from a window, plates come in a box, and no sit down tables. Food was good, could have been a little more fresh. The noodle Mac salad was the best thing I had, no tuna if anyone was wondering. The side of the day was long rice which wasn't like Hawaiian king rice but more shoyu long rice. My sister said the hash was good. The shrimp tempura was a piece of shrimp tempura fried not long like the kind that come in sushi. The chicken was cold but ok tasting. Wish the sushi had furikake on it. The cone sushi was good, needed a bit more rice packed in it. The spam musubi was good. My sister got the sushi roll but that was filled with dried fish and not my thing. The wait wasn't long so it must be prepared before hand. A definite try to get some food before a long drive to the other side the island.

Edible (mostly) but not very good. Best thing was the mac salad and the rice. Things that should have been hot were room temp, shrimp was fried ages ago and sat around so the coating was squishy and cold instead of crunchy. Very friendly and kind server (owner?) It was fast and interesting but I would not go back.

Formerly Po's Kitchen. Delicious box lunch. They have 3 sizes- small, regular, large. They also offer maki sushi, cone sushi, spam musing, and goteburg. The chicken is tasty, spaghetti Mac salad is just right, Furikake on the 2 musubi, luncheon meat, Teri beef (chewy), and fried noodles. The regular box includes egg and more of the above listed items. Friendly and efficient service! Sorry, I missed photos, we were hungry, LOL.

The lunch box is Kauai's favorite pre-packed and ready to go meal. It's all about convenience and familiar food here. There's nothing weird or surprising in this meal packed in the white box and it's a fun way to try small bites of a lot of different things that you might not order on the regular. Down to the piece of red hot dog, this is 100% local food. The lunch box is a Garden Isle classic, a convenient and portable meal to grab on the way to the airport. Even the Yelp critics here would agree that Po's is definitely better than what you could get at LIH!

Po's Kitchen serves up local style okazuya plates (i.e., Japanese-style delicatessen common in Hawaii). It's so hard to find places like this on other islands as old-school okazuya's close down. I was not disappointed with the "deluxe plate," see photo. It's a walk up and order place, with a takeaway window. I showed up around 12:30. The line was short and my food was ready in minutes. I drove to a nearby park and enjoyed every bite.

Musubi

This is what I call come sushi! We stopped here because kiddos wanted musubis and aren't fans of 711. Loved that the cone sushi wasn't soggy and was the size of my palm! The auntie at register was very nice as well even though we weren't ordering a bunch of stuff she was still very nice with aloha! We will definitely be back to try their boxes! Customer in front got 4 boxes and everything inside looked freshly cooked (unlike many other okazuya places) and delicious!

After many years away from the island, I finally had a chance to grab a box lunch from a place I'd grab from growing up. Saw that it was new owners. But I'm glad I was able to grab some food. I like this box lunch better than before. Good luck to the new owners. I look forward to visiting again on future trips back home.

Have you ever tried a box lunch in Hawaii? If you haven't or are looking for the bomb.com food, I highly recommend DJ's Box Lunch. You can order items individually, but a regular or deluxe box comes with the standard...chicken, rice, salad, pickled veggies, luncheon meat, hot dog, teri beef, and a side dish...the deluxe comes with fried shrimp. Come hungry because I promise you, after you eat this box, you'll be full! Side note..this is a take out order business only.

Got a box lunch for hiking. Paid about $10 with a drink. Not bad, this lace is pretty close to the airport as well.

This is a very convenient place to grab a lunch for work or school. Variety of choices for your box lunch and a small local store.

Good variety, I like that I didn't have to select what I wanted in my bento and they have the small, medium, and large options. :)

We were there around noon and it is amazing to see that most of their fish were gone, I knew that was a sign that this spot was gonna be good! The fish express offers ready to go foods, hot food, and also fresh fish like a fish market! My husband and I always just get the poke and this time we tried ahi shoyu poke, ahi maui onion poke, ahi spicy poke with crab, and sliced tako. They don't have a seating place everyone either ate it outside the store or in their car. The poke... cuts like butter! When it cuts like you know you picked a good spot! There's something about getting the first bite at the start of your vacation that kick starts the day, time, and the vacation. Getting the right eats makes a person remember that special place and since it was our first time in Kauai, finding The Fish Express and eating one of the best pokes really set the mood to our vacation and I can't wait to go back!

It's purely a take-out spot with no dine-in area, so we grabbed our bowls and brought them straight back to our resort to eat by the pool. The selection here is massive--you build your bowl with two protein choices and a a lot of sides. I went with the Ahi Tuna and the shrimp, and the quality of the fish was top-tier. However, keep in mind that they price everything by weight. Between the weight of the seafood and the side dish costs piling up, your bowl quickly ends up being quite expensive. It makes for a huge, super hearty, and delicious meal, but definitely expect a higher price tag at checkout. Super good for freshness and variety!

Tucked on the second story of a shopping center we found Alisa. We weren't disappointed. The staff was so kind. It's nice when you can tell they love their job. They have indoor seating and patio seating. In an effort to stay dry, we chose inside. We got pineapple fried rice. Poke nachos. A couple sushi rolls and summer rolls. Everything was amazing. The e pineapple fried rice came out on a massive plate and had so much pineapple! Definitely not the skimpy amount you typically get. The poke nachos were served on potato chips, which was an odd choice. Not our favorite we've had, but they weren't terrible. We will definitely be recommending when people head to Kauai!

We were thankfully accommodated since we were tired from travel. The atmosphere was welcoming! On a nicer day, would have sat on their open porch to eat. The restaurant itself is located in a second floor of a plaza. Apps we got: Gyoza (comes with 4), Papaya Salad, Poke Nachos. Kids enjoyed them! Papaya salad- we chose to get non spicy for the kids. Adults also enjoyed it, dressing was light and a good balance of sweet and sour. Poke Nachos- also good balance as the fish was fresh! The "Nachos" are just Salt and Vinegar chips you would buy at a store. I would reorder just for the fish and the marinade! Entrees: Beef Noodle soup, Curry Pork Belly, Thai Basil Pork Belly, Pad Thai, Kids Chicken Katsu Everything was delicious! The Pork Bellies were crispy ! Pad Thai was definitely the best dish as it had authentic flavors. Food Allergy Note: there are peanuts in many of their dishes. We will try to come back again before we leave Kauai.
