So disappointed with the portions. You wouldn't expect to be handed your plate and it feel like it doesn't have anything in it. We ate here about 3 years ago and it wasn't this sad small of a serving per item. There was no food out to see or photos so we didn't know the portions would be so sad. The chicken especially was mind blowing. Only the Cone Sushi taste decent, the sad piece of chicken wasn't good, the corn beef hash was mushy and it was a sad half hot dog. Lady was so rude, you can tell she doesn't like her job or wants to be there. Born and raised in Hawaii, traveled to all the islands and ate at a lot of locally owned businesses and have never been treated this poorly. So disappointed! read more

The food was pretty good for what we got. Mac salad, rice and side dish of the day were good. The proteins were had a hot dog, a slice of egg omelette, one piece of bbq beef, 2 chicken tenders, half a corn beef hash patty and one thin slice of spam. The portions in the box were definitely on the smaller side--more like bite-sized servings, which was a bit surprising compared to the previous photos. I was expecting it to be more filled, but honestly, it worked out fine since it was perfect for a plane ride. That said, we were missing the additional egg roll we ordered, but we didn't realize it until after we'd already left. Lesson learned to double-check before heading out! The service was great, though. They took our order over the phone and were really friendly when we arrived. It wasn't quite ready when we got there, but they were quick to pack up our box and get us on our way. As for the atmosphere, it's to-go only, so keep that in mind. Grab your lunch and find a nice beach or park to enjoy it! I'd definitely give it another try next time I'm in the area--hoping for a more complete order and maybe a little more bang for my buck. I was hanging outside and looking at the menu but they were closed. One of the workers or owner told me that I needed to come back the next day as he has the best spam musubi on the island! Loved his confidence and did just that. Came back the next day, didn't see him though. Ordered a couple of musubi's and he was right. I thought they were really good! We also ordered a couple of small things here. The concept is a box and just order whatever you want. Fried shrimp, egg roll, dumplings, etc. Pretty funny because my wife craved an egg roll. Po's kitchen was one of a few places open in the morning where we could take out some food and bring it back for breakfast. Best thing is it's right next to a donut shop where we can get donuts too! The order is from a window, plates come in a box, and no sit down tables. Food was good, could have been a little more fresh. The noodle Mac salad was the best thing I had, no tuna if anyone was wondering. The side of the day was long rice which wasn't like Hawaiian king rice but more shoyu long rice. My sister said the hash was good. The shrimp tempura was a piece of shrimp tempura fried not long like the kind that come in sushi. The chicken was cold but ok tasting. Wish the sushi had furikake on it. The cone sushi was good, needed a bit more rice packed in it. The spam musubi was good. My sister got the sushi roll but that was filled with dried fish and not my thing. The wait wasn't long so it must be prepared before hand. I was not disappointed with the "deluxe plate," see photo. It's a walk up and order place, with a takeaway window. I showed up around 12:30. The line was short and my food was ready in minutes. This is what I call come sushi! We stopped here because kiddos wanted musubis and aren't fans of 711. Loved that the cone sushi wasn't soggy and was the size of my palm! The auntie at register was very nice as well even though we weren't ordering a bunch of stuff she was still very nice with aloha! We will definitely be back to try their boxes! Anytime on Kauai we always stop at Dj's. Same recipe as Po's. But DJ makes some things better. For instance the shrimp is a little bigger than previously, he cooks the hash a little more, and he uses luncheon meat instead of ham!! Order the deluxe with 1 extra shrimp and. Extra chicken!! Po's kitchen is located in a shopping plaza right next to Ace hardware store. It's a nice little shop, currently no indoor seating, that serves plate lunches and sushi. We didn't eat the bento box but we did order cone sushi to eat on the plane ride home. Japanese call it Inari sushi but in my opinion Po's is a little different. It was taste and larger with a Hawaiian Japanese flare lol this is what I gathered. The next time we're in Kauai, we'll definitely have to stop by and try out their bento boxes. read more

I've been coming to this location since I was in elementary so it's always nostalgic to come and get a box lunch when i visit the island. I was here visiting my family so I decided to stop by. They were just about the to close & I came at the last minute & they were still nice about it. Luckily they had one plate left for me. The staff was super friendly & made my plate quickly. The customer service vibes on Kauai always give that homey feeling. The chicken, rice, ham, hot did, and egg were all super good. Just like what I always remember. Best food on the island? Not even close. But the warm memories I get when I go there and eat the food is enough to keep me coming back. They are a staple for me when I go Kauai. I have been eating bento here for years. Po of Po's Kitchen, recently retired and sold her eatery. Now called DJ's Box Lunch. The menu and tasty flavors are the same but I must say, there is a marked difference. Of particular, the fried chicken is more tender. DJ's used sliced boneless chicken thigh on the day I ordered my bento. I did not have the usual drumstick/wings, which tends to be over fried, drying the meat. The fried shrimp is SO MUCH BETTER. The shrimp size seems a little larger, the tempura batter still onolicious. The teriyaki meat, Japanese sweet rolled omelet (Tamagoyaki), the cornbeef hash patties have the same good flavors, but seems more tasty. The side dish for the day was long rice/carrot/tofu. The flavor unchanged and still good. The same cooks are working there. But I can taste a difference. Maybe it's the "love" or a renewed passion put into their cooking. read more

They already ordered by the time I stepped foot inside, and I was totally confused as to what they were getting. Box lunch they declared! Make that four, please! ATMOSPHERE: The tiny open-air spot is located in a small strip mall across from Ace Hardware. It's mainly a takeout spot, but they cleared off their sole 4-seater table for our gang, lol. MENU: Chicken, pork, beef, fish, sushi, shrimp, hot dog, corned beef hash; either a la carte or together in a box lunch. FOOD: Box Lunch - $6.25 small, $7.35 regular, $8.65 deluxe. Such a great idea! An actual pie box comes loaded with two musubi, two crispy & savory fried chicken wings, tender teriyaki pork, a slice of luncheon meat, half a boiled hot dog, a tong-full of tsukemono (pickled cabbage), slice of egg roll, and some broken spaghetti mayo salad. We each got the deluxe size which adds two small shrimp tempura. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted absolutely delicious. SERVICE: Everyone was friendly and food service was lightning quick.
