The Djirringanj People's Walk is a short, well-marked trail between Spencer Park and Bar Beach in Merimbula, NSW. It was named after the Aboriginal people that once inhabited this estuary and the surrounding hills. It is also called the "Rotary Walk" by some, since it would appear that organization maintains it.
The walk (hike) is only about 1.5 km long but traverses some fairly dense forest and also provides many excellent views of the lake and town. There are several viewing platforms along the trail and frequent signs listing facts about the local flora and fauna. Other signs compare old and new photos of the town from the spot you are standing.
If you are staying in Merimbula and have the morning off, then I highly recommend the following itinerary: Grab your camera and walk (or drive) to Spencer Park (or Rotary Park); follow signs to the trail (uphill side). Then walk the trail and enjoy the scenery all the way to Bar Beach. Once at the beach, enjoy a laid-back breakfast at Bar Beach Kiosk (http://www.yelp.com/biz/bar-beach-kiosk-merimbula?osq=bar+beach&search_key=67089) featuring beautiful views of the inlet. Then return the way you came. You can thank me later. read more
