Don't waste your time. Their employment database is a joke. Everybody who files for unemployment…read morewill be using it, but they only seem to list a limited number of government jobs (probably because real companies list on Monster.com since it's way better.) If you are like me, TWC will just thoroughly waste your limited time when you should be looking for work, only to be told you don't qualify for unemployment anyway. They will require you file relative to your last employer, who you will have to prove you worked for. Then tell you the benefits are from a period of your previous employer, so then you have to prove you worked for them. Then they will tell you that your previous employer didn't file insurance on you, so they will start an investigation as to whether they were required to or not. They will call that employer and take their word for why they didn't file for you and then reject your claim on that basis. So when you demand to know why they ruled against, they won't really tell you (probably because they don't really know the rules and are just taking the word of the shmucks who didn't put insurance out on your to start with.) They will tell you that you can appeal their decision that your previous employer was exempt from filing insurance on you, but will refuse to tell you exactly why they ruled that way to start with. It's kind of like defending yourself at Guantanamo Bay because you are allowed a rebuttal, but not allowed to know what you are rebutting. All this time you are supposed to be coming up with 5 contacts a week on their system, but when you search for your area, most of the searches come up saying there are no listings for that category. I would love to know how many jobs are listed in their database on average per day relative to how many people are filing for unemployment. At least 9/10ths of the jobs seemed to be government jobs, where they are probably required to list them there, even though they already have a favorite for the position waiting in the sidelines to start with. If the listing set a high school diploma as a minimum education qualification, your bacherlor's degree won't count, and you will be told you can't apply for that position, and if you report this system bug, you will be told that if you come in they will show you how to do searches on their system. Just about all the jobs require you submit a resume and re-type all your personal information into a separate website, so none of the information you have entered into the Workforce site is automatically transferred. So expect to fill all your basic details in quadruplicate. Isn't it great to know how advances in technology have made looking for work ten times harder than it was in the past? But at least you can be sure that the mountain of paperwork they mail you will keep postal workers busy and can be recycled. And while the people who work for TWC are probably receiving federal tax dollars that you paid for in your previous job that supposedly doesn't qualify you for benefits, that their incompetance will be used as an excuse to kill the program nationwide (even though it is being mismanaged on a state level, probably on the excuse of "states rights.") And Justice Scalia will be at the forefront of ensuring fuckwits here in Texas can minmanage federal funds that way for years to come. In short, worker's comp is something that should work and help people, but not when fuckwits are in charge.

When I initially spoke with him about the…read morespecifics of my case, he gave me very direct feedback and informed me on all of the reasons why I could potentially file suit against the City of Austin. Unfortunately, at the end of the first phone call, he regrettably informed me that due to the Texas Tort Claims Act, it's almost impossible to file suit and expect to get any sort of compensation for the type of injury I suffered. I was let down, but at least grateful that he gave me honest, valuable counsel. I thanked him for his time and was left to figure out my next move, but thankfully only had to wait until the end of the day when he called me back. Despite telling me he wouldn't take my case, he had spent most of his day poring over similar cases and managed to find one that made it all the way up to the Texas Supreme Court, which had actually reset the precedent for cases such as this. He then told me he actually felt like he had a shot to get me some money to help pay off the egregious amount of medical bills I had incurred. I should also add, though, that my mother and I were very diligent about gathering as much evidence as possible the moment I was released from the hospital, and without all of this documented evidence, there is very little chance I would have had a case to begin with. As far as how the process went while working with Aaron, I could not have been more pleased with how everything was handled and played out. One of my favorite things about Aaron is that he is no bullshitter. He is very direct and always made sure I understood exactly what to expect throughout the whole process, and always updated me immediately with any new developments, as well as going through expectations for the next part of the case. All in all, it took about 20 months from the day Aaron accepted my case to the day that we settled out of court for a payout from the city that has helped ease my financial burden that I incurred due to poor city maintenance. I cant even imagine where I'd be without all the work, time, and effort that Aaron put in to my case, and words cannot express how grateful I am to him.

What was so mind boggling was that I was still in physical therapy for my shoulder when I had to see him. I suffered a torn rotator cuff on the job but the chiropractor who is not a MD wrote in his report that I do not need surgery to repair my shoulder (he claimed it was a shoulder strain) even though my physician (an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in elbow and shoulder surgeries and approved by the insurance company) had made it clear I was a candidate for surgery. Mr. Allison represented me from May of 2022 until November of 2022 when we went in front of a so-called "Administrative Law Judge" who works for the Texas Department of Insurance (Division of Workers' Compensation). Mr. Allison did everything and beyond to prove my case. We had all the documentation including the MRI results that I had to pay for. I really felt good after the hearing because we proved everything beyond the shadow of doubt. However, the administrative judge took the recommendation of a chiropractor (who never looked at the MRI results) over my physician who happens to be an expert and specialist in elbow and shoulder orthopedics for The Carrell Clinic who happens to perform surgeries for the Dallas Cowboys. Mr. Allison had warned me from the very beginning that Texas' Workers' Compensation Law is perhaps the worst in the nation when he took up my case. Aaron will bend over backwards to help you anyway he can. His knowledge of the Workers' Compensation law is second to none as far as I am concerned. He gave my wife and I the history and structure of Texas' Workers' Compensation Law and answered pretty much all our questions before we even asked him. He was always available when I had any questions and he made me feel at ease. He may not like this description of him but I told him he really is a crusader for the working people and it's a shame there aren't more like him.
