I sent a general request on Facebook for anyone that can help me get attic stairs installed in my home. DJA Construction responded and said that they could help. After a couple correspondences, the owner, David Andrew stated that he would check his schedule and let me know when he can stop by to give me an estimate. After nearly a week passed and I had not heard from DJA - I reached out to him again and asked him if he decided to not take the job. David responded by stating that he just got very busy due to the storm that we recently had, and he would come out and give me the estimate shortly. I can understand that, but a simple call, text, or e-mail stating such would have been nice (and professional).
David did come out shortly afterwards and looked over the situation, asked me a few questions, took some measurements and some notes. He told me that he would have the estimate to me a few days time. This time, nearly a month passes, and I contact him again to see where the estimate is. More excuses, but he stated he would send it to me Tuesday (when he returns to work after Labor Day). I can understand that, but a simple call, text, or e-mail stating such would have been nice (and professional).
Then, I contacted David Tuesday evening, after still not receiving the estimate, and I heard a third round of excuses. I advised him that I am going to look for another person/company to do the job because clearly he is either no longer interested in doing this job, or he and/or his office assistant are too incompetent to run their schedule and/or communicate with their customers. David told me that he had a few emergencies to take care of due to the "storms again." I personally feel that he either kept forgetting, or more so kept taking higher paying jobs over mine. Again, I can understand that, but a simple call, text, or e-mail stating such would have been nice (and professional).
What surprises me is that David apparently sees no problem with not contacting me because as he puts it, "I didn't take any money from you..". Then he misreads a statement I made - I had told him that if he told me that it was going to take this long, then perhaps I would have contacted another person/company to do the job. David responded by saying that, "I just told him I already contacted someone else, and that I was taking other bids anyway.." - which is not what I wrote. Simple communication and written language on a fourth grade level escapes some people I guess.
I also asked David why he would make an effort to respond to my inquiry and offer to assist, and then not do it - you guessed it; more excuses. So, bottom line, I would avoid this company unless you want to keep tracking David down to get him to come out for the estimate and/or to send you the estimate, wait several weeks, maybe even month or so to find out he is no closer to giving you your estimate than he was the day before he initially stopped over.
If you like to wait and wait, and keep being fed a lot of excuses as to why he never got back to you, then maybe this is a company for you, but for most of us - there are much more professional companies out there who respect their customers and/or potential customers and don't leave them waiting like patience on a monument for a simple response. I think that a company's reputation and professionalism is not only based on the quality of their work, but also on how they treat their customers and/or potential customers. Imagine if he did a job for you, and you had a concern or two, and had to keep tracking David down, then told he would stop by to take care of it, but never does. Weeks and weeks go by, and all you get are excuse after excuse as to why he not only never showed up, but also never advised you of why he hasn't. This may explain DJA's "F" rating by the BBB and his "D" rating on Angie's List. You've been warned. read more
