He usually finds them loud and obnoxious, and I lean towards this opinion as well most of the time. Chris is not like this. I knew he was the perfect choice when I met him. I sit on the board of a professional organization here in Portland, and we host events throughout the year which require audio/ video services. There's no room for error when 100 paying attendees are waiting for a video to load, a presentation to display, or a panelist's answer over a PA system. But Audio Professionals NW had me covered, and from moment one. Our main contact was responsive over email and phone, and was even right on the ball when I needed him to work directly with the venue for our event. He stepped in, responded quickly, and always owned it. Best of all, I really felt I was in good hands because he used phrases like "No problem at all" and "We've got you covered." At one point, he replied to a long email I sent that had a ton of questions, by responding with numbered bullets, with each bullet being an answer to one of my questions, just to make sure he addressed everything clearly. It really made me trust their attention to detail. The tech who arrived for our event was a legit AV professional - he wasn't some washed up, hungover audio dude who just happens to know how to run a digital mixer. Not only did he know his stuff, but he knew MY stuff - he was able to tweak my own laptop when it was causing display problems....and I'm a tech geek. But he was also a service professional, and here's why: - He arrived exactly at the time he promised at our venue. - He set everything up without any hitches (not one "hmmm...I wonder why that's not working" moment. Translation: no stress for me.) - He tested everything multiple times to make sure it was perfect...and did it 45 minutes earlier than I had expected to start testing, which was a huge timing win. - He got the volumes right on every single element - all the mics, the video, the general room volume, etc. We didn't need to adjust anything even once during our event. (The equipment was either new and/ or in great working condition. It was spotless and current.) - The wireless microphones were all fully charged, so we had six hours of time on them. (This is a detail that requires foresight, yet which is vital to any event.) - He made an effort to make everything LOOK good - the projector table, the mic stands, the wires, etc. - He was nice, never impatient, and totally reassured me about every little question I was nervous about. - He even returned at exactly the time he and I discussed, then cleaned up, and was on his way as if he'd never been there. Professional, easy to work with, and unobtrusive. Even my colleagues came up to me after our event to say the AV was amazing. Nobody EVER does that about the AV!! The difference is that Audio Professionals NW were extremely COMPETENT and actually CARED to get it right and CARED to be decent people in the process. It's those traits that make Portland the place that it is, and, quite honestly, it's those traits that keep the world from turning into a heap of steaming manure. How many times do you hire a company - for any service - and they just do the minimum, and YOU'RE the one left with the stress and the troubleshooting, having to manage THEM? He indicated he was available for our event and immediately made us feel comfortable, assuring us that he had everything under control. Boy, did he deliver. Having given him such a short runway for planning and with everything else going on, there was bound to be some sort of hiccup that came up yet DJ Short Change navigated the evening professionally and everything was executed perfectly - if there was a hiccup, we couldn't tell. Short Change nailed the all of the "must have" songs, played great music overall and read the crowd well. He kept the party moving... so much so that I asked him to stay an additional hour as there was no way we'd be able to keep up the same vibe. Booking DJ Shortchange was the best event-related decision I made. He's a total professional--proactive with communication, able to roll with last minute changes, and supremely easy & pleasant to work with. Change served as party MC, keeping the energy up and directing folks to the food, Photo Booth and (of course) to the dance floor. While this cat can throw down any musical genre like a pro (you gotta check out his reggae shows), I needed 80s music running the gamut from heavy metal and punk to R&B and New Wave. Change happily took requests from my classmates leading up to the event and during the party and brought his own flavor to the party. So the one worry I didn't have on the night of the event was that the music would be totally Off. The. Hook. Change is more than a DJ. He's a one person Party Machine.
