St George Awning - Spliced tubes May 2025

    St George Awning

I had previously identified six splices, which I wrote about in May 2025. This brings the total to 12 splices out of 42 tubes, meaning nearly 30% of the tubes have been spliced. In my view, this demonstrates a serious lack of competence. There are only two acceptable reasons for splicing tubes: first, if the required tube length cannot be obtained (which does not apply in my case), and second, if an error was made during measuring and cutting. While occasional mistakes are understandable, St George Southwest Awnings have made 12 incorrect cuts, which reflects extremely poor workmanship. This level of error suggests either gross incompetence or that insufficient material was ordered from the outset. In either case, the outcome is unacceptable. Based on my experience, these people are a disaster, and I would strongly recommend avoiding them May 2025: I had a pergola installed when I noticed a few months later that Tyler and crew spliced several tubes together. These tubes are the very first tubes to be installed and are the shortest tubes at ~15 feet. I called to discuss why these tubes were spliced when all the other tubes that are 16 to 30 feet in length are not spliced. Not sure if these spliced tubes were measured incorrectly, cut incorrectly, from another job, or something else. I was told it's a common practice to splice tubes. I mentioned it's unacceptable and makes no sense to be splicing these short tubes when you have 30 foot tubes with no splice and that I'd like to have them replaced. He sends me a bill saying it'll be $850 for material and labor. Once again I called him to discuss and I said I paid you a lot of money and that this was not installed correctly. His standard answer is that it is a common practice to splice and it's installed correctly. I mentioned I'm willing to pay for the material and wait until you have a job in my area and that there is no need for a special trip. He said he's not going to do it unless I pay and that he doesn't work for free. Be very careful.

The cost was way too much for what you get.. it leaks on every end.. it Leakes a puddle right in…read morethe middle of the front door!
