I was in the area exploring the estate sale stores on Georgia Avenue when I decided to head over to Dixie Hwy Donuts for some refreshments. As the name implies you will find them on Dixie Hwy at the northern end of the Colonial Plaza. Dixie Hwy Donuts is owned by Jack and Rosanna Viteritti who make everything in-house. They offer over 30 varieties of donuts every day and they are known for their unique specialty flavors. In addition to donuts they also serve coffee, shakes and smoothies, and New York style egg sandwiches. A few choices were already sold out by the time I arrived, bye bye Maple Bacon, but there was still enough left to tempt me. I ended up leaving with a cinnamon apple donut, cannoli donut, and an oversized cinnamon roll. While they were all good the cannoli was my favorite. I loved the creativity of mashing up one of my favorite desserts with a donut. The chocolate chunks and cherry on top took it next level. The donuts were on the expensive side. My three cost over $13. However the friendly and personalized service from the owners and quality and craftsmanship of the donuts make this worth the indulgence. read more

After seeing a bunch of drool worthy pictures online, we knew we had to come here and check them out. The shop is located on the east side of Dixie at the end of a strip. There's actually a few designated parking spots for the shop out front. Most folks get their donuts and other items to go. But we decided to at least have a taste first seated inside. There's one table with a couple chairs. Even though it was in the afternoon, they still had a good selection available. We browsed and decided to get two donuts each. They do offer a better deal for a half dozen. And they're not cheap, but they were worth it. They also offer some breakfast sandwiches, ice cream, and shakes. But the donuts are their main draw. My husband got a vanilla coconut one and their last Boston cream donut. He had the Boston cream and liked it. He had the vanilla coconut one for breakfast. I took a bite of each of mine -- a sour cream cake donut and a maple bacon donut. The cake one was okay, but the maple bacon was fantastic! There were a lot of real bacon pieces on it. I had the balance for breakfast the next day. I also took a bite of his coconut vanilla. The coconut was so flaky and fresh, that I think I'll get this one plus a maple bacon next time. After a filling lunch we walked down to this corner donut shop we have wanted to try. A Friendly Family shop, eager to describe their wonderful donuts. I chose a Boston Cream donut and a Vanilla Coconut donut. We sat at the only table inside to eat one of our choices. My husband and sons love it when I pick up donuts from Dixie Hwy Donuts. The donuts are fresh and the variety is enormous. My family members' favorite donuts are anything containing chocolate. The shop is tucked in a small strip shop center on Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach. Inside the shop is brightly and cheerfully decorated. The owners greet me every time I walk through their door .They obviously take a lot of pride in their shop. It's nice to have a local bakery to support. Beside donuts, Dixie Hwy Donuts also serves breakfast sandwiches, coffee, shakes, ice cream, and smoothies. Since I'm gluten free, I can't enjoy their donuts but their iced coffee tasted fantastic. I bake professionally. I come from Los Angeles, Sinker City, the donut capital of the world. I also used to make the drive either to the north or the west to get Jupiter donuts. Used to... Jupiter's prices have gone astronomical. Their quality has gone down. So when I discovered Dixie Hwy Donuts, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that their donuts were excellent quality, with a nice variety that has a few things you don't even see at other places. Quality in the dough. It has the right chew to it. Quality in the fillings. Lemon, and others at cheap joints have that tacky gummy cheap filling that doesn't break down well when you eat it, Quality in the toppings. Real pistachio crumble on the pistachio donut?! Bada bing! I had very high hopes for this place as it moved right into the neighborhood and wasn't a chain. I thought maybe when I brought these home, the first badge was just a one off & they were having a bad day. They are charging boutique donut shop prices for mid-level, large chain store caliber donuts. Their tactics when they get an honest review that their product is mediocre is to insult their customers. I just left Dixie donuts for my initial experience and I will be back. Rosetta the owner is warm and friendly and told me how she makes her donuts with the highest quality ingredients. I had a Boston cream doughnut and it was delicious. The chocolate glaze on the doughnut was superb. Dark chocolate that was not bitter and not too sweet and had a great consistency. OMG. Got there at 9am and there was already only 1 or 2 of certain i items left. The apple fritters are amazing. I went in today to make out an order for Easter brunch I am going to. I have never tasted their donuts; however, their reviews were very positive. Jack greeted me and explained that it is owned by two women. Asked how I got to know of them and I told him I did a search on donut shops in the West Palm Beach area. I needed one that was good and would be open on Easter. He said they would be. So I made an order and took two extra to try when I got back home. Rosanna, one of the owners, showed me what she is looking todo in the future. Looks very promising! She also helped me complete my order and got my two extras for home. Both she and Jack are very personable! Well, I got home and sat down with the blueberry cake donut and my cup of coffee. Looked at the donut which had various pieces of blueberries and a glaze on it. I was hoping it was not too sweet. I have to say it was the first time I have had a blueberry cake donut where you could actually taste the blueberries! It was not too sweet, though I could go with less glaze. It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! One of the best donuts I have ever eaten, and I can actually say I am a donut connoisseur! I have tasted various donuts in various shops all over the United States. These were one of the best cake donuts I have ever eaten. Looking forward now to the sour cream donut and my coffee!! Granted, I'm gluten free so I'm not reviewing the actual donuts. My husband asked me to pick some up for him, and the shop owner was so kind and thoughtful. He gave both of my children a donut hole in the store while I ordered, and then when he saw the two of them sharing the last one while in the parking lot, he came out with a little bag of extra donut holes for them. They have everything from plain glazed & powdered sugar to over-the-top bacon maple & vanilla cake crumble (just to mention a few of my favorites). No worries, I am pretty sure all their donuts are healthy...if nothing else, just the thought gets me up and out of bed early. Dixie Donuts is the product of a couple tracing their roots back to the original Dixie Cream Donuts, which was the genius of Krispy Kreme! But, Dixie Cream opted to continue to make their donuts the old fashion way -- by hand -- no mass production.... The donuts are truly the best I've ever eaten. The location is super convenient on Dixie, especially for people like me who live in Soso, just north of sushi Joes. These are the best doughnuts I've been able to find in the greater WPB area. They're a little farther away than the local Dunkin D for some but definitely worth the drive and of course they're right around the corner from anyone in the SoSo district. Absolutely love this place. The owners are great people, very personable, and take pride in their product. Everything is made in house and you can taste it in the quality. So far I've tried the Banana Bread Crumble(personal favorite), strawberry with sprinkles, guava filled, blueberry cake, dulce de leche, and apple fritter. Every single donut has been great. My brother-in-law who lives in WPB recently told me about Dixie Hwy Donuts....that they rival the "best donuts you ever tasted" and that I must give them a try. Last Saturday morning I went at 7am to check them out. All I can say is WOW! I met the owner, Jack, who was there and was such a friendly guy. He is passionate about what he does, and his donuts are really delicious. I bought a variety of what they offered and The Blueberry Cake and Banana Cake Crumble and Boston Creme donuts were really special.
