Florian shared his extensive knowledge of local wine accompanied with the region's history. Touring the area by bike gives you the opportunity to really take in the incredible sights and smells of the area. After a short ride, we stopped for a snack and a glass of local wine. Florian even shared produce from his garden. Our next stop was an explanation of a plat of roadside vines. Then, a short bike to Chassagne Montrachet. After touring the winery, we were treated to a very informative tasting by winery staff. We were able to experience the differences in wines due to their distinct terrior. Our next stop was a picnic style lunch at a very nice restaurant. It really gave our group an opportunity to chat and really enjoy Burgundy, over food and wine. We also discovered Florian's home town, Rully, makes very nice wine. After an enjoyable lunch, we cycled to Pommard. There was a headwind, but still a lovely ride. Domaine Lejeune was the last stop of our tour and it was a lovely ending. We were treated to a winery tour during harvest. Seeing the action at the sorting table was a bonus for a winelover. The tasting did not disappoint. We enjoyed wines from Pommard and Mersault. Two of my favorite Burgundian wines! From Pommard, we were transferred back to the pickup location(Tourist Office) by van. Our full day tour seemed to pass quickly and were appreciative to have taken in so much of Burgundy in such a short period. I recommend you ask questions and by an active participant in the tour. RN74 opened soon after and what better place to try another Meursault but at a place that is ALL about Burgundy? Perusing their vast list I happened on upon the 2005 Chateau de Puligny Montrachet. Everyone at the table raved about the wine. This was a game changer. So much so that I've been obsessed with this wine. I've since found it at the Fifth Floor, Aziza and a handful of other places. The problem with vintage wine is, it's a scarce commodity. As I seek it out it gets harder and harder to find and some point it will no longer exist and I will be sad. However I have the Domaine du Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet to make me a believer in white wine. It's been a huge revelation.

I would say this tour is best for those with some wine knowledge as they delve deep into the history and geography of the region. The focus is on education rather than guzzling a lot of wine. We visited a private cellar that represented many producers and had an introduction to what the region makes. After that, you'll see beautiful countryside, as well as the most expensive vineyard in the world (€15K/bottle!!). Then a stop in Beaune for lunch (on your own) and on to a woman owned winery to delve deep into the difference terroir makes in wine. Our guide Paul was incredibly knowledgeable about the region and wine in general. I would probably have wished for another winery stop versus lots of driving but ultimately I learned a ton and really enjoyed it!

It was so difficult to buy a case that liquor store owners would have to buy a 100 cases of Borgogne blanc to get one. I was a lucky man. I also have had all their Puligny Montrachet. I find the Clavoillon my favorite. It has been a joyous relationship with greatness, their wine and my drinking. The winery is open to visits and the tasting room is their restaurant in town. Go. Drink. Eat. Drink the best and now you can stay at their hotel across the street from the tasting room.

They had bottles on the tour dating back to the 80s. What I would give to have one of those bottles tonight! They had a tasting part to the tour and there was another group of Americans there as well. It was as if the two guys had been drinking a while and were tipsy and mocking us. Other than that bit of rudeness, it was great. I would have loved to have bought some wine but it was incredibly expensive to ship and the dollar to euro was just silly off balance. It would have been a fortune to send it home.

An amazing restaurant and hotel!…read more We stayed in the hotel, given that Puligny-Montrachet was a perfect location for a night to be spend during our biking trip on the wine road of Burgundy. On the suggestion of the staff, we reserved a table at their restaurant and were all but disappointed. First off, the cooking here is amazing. The card is not large, like in most good french restaurants. It's basically the Chef's menu + a couple of options. My partner went with the menu and absolutely liked her courgettes crème with soft cheese as well as the fish, whereas I thoroughly enjoyed my meat cocotte (excellent doneness, excellent sauce, excellent potato grattin) and paté en croute with whites for the latter and reds for the former. For the dessert I ordered their chocolate mousse - excellent, although a bit bitter, that paired extraordinarily well with a red advised by their caviste. Finally, to finish the meal I ordered a Premier Cru Puligny-Montrachet white. It was absolutely amazing - I enjoyed it for a solid half an hour while my partner was enjoying her Champagne Rosé. Their wine collection deserves a special mention. We were tasting the wines by the glass and were advised on the pairings by the staff wine expert. We were pleasantly surprised by how well of pairings the wine expert was recommending, as well as the general quality of the wines. In fact we liked some of them so much, we ordered several bottles after checking out from the hotel. The service is excellent, but the place is all but cheap (count 80 - 250 for a dinner for two, depending on what you order and the wines by the glass that you will order) and requires a certain dress code. But it's totally worth it. The hotel itself gets bonus point for excellent consumables, calm location and high accessibility of all the common spaces and rooms. Overall, excellent experience. On the expensive side, but worth it, especially if you like wines.
