After a short search, I came across Aurora Reyes' classes at Flamenco Latino and it was exactly what I was looking for. Flamenco is unlike other dance types in that it has a long learning curve. But once you get a knack for it, you could dance any sort of dance style. After just one hour of classes, my wellbeing and mood is greatly improved, from 0 to 10 on some days. I never imagined that I would be dancing to the accompaniment of 8 live guitars. Aurora is an amazing dancer and singer - musical instrument in form of woman! A friend of mine told me she rents a table for the flea market and has been asking me to stop by. For a $25.00 fee, they peddle their wares -- forty to fifty tables full of new and used unique goods, lit by a stunningly beautiful chandelier adorned by four smaller satellite illuminators. The second floor room is beautiful! Classic Italian stately design, form meets function, with thick framed paintings of our pioneering people past, adorning the marble walls with golden sconce highlights. Handbags, leathers, costume jewelry clothing and household items may appeal more to the female persuasion, guys, y'all gotta go check it out anyway -- with your ladies, your buddies or alone, if your single and in the market, you might meet a nice Italian girl. Speaking of which, I met one of the finest woman at the great of the room fronting the Christopher Columbus painting. Marie is the Italian Charities publicist and with her Ad Hoc team, coordinate and promote monthly events from dances to dinners, unfortunately the Easter Italian Dinner was sold out because I had a fist full of greenbacks in hand ready to plunk it down for tickets to attend. It's quite common for Italian people to talk about where their family is from back in the old country. She and her family are Barese, my family being Genoa -- we kick butt in ship building and stuffed ravioli. The building has crystal chandeliers, Italian tchotchkes in glass cases, some articles and other bits of history. There's an elevator to the upstairs banquet hall if you can't use the small staircase, and this was where the flea market was. It mainly seemed to be people selling things they no longer wanted, costume jewelry, books, glassware, clothes - one lady did manage to find a stunning fur coat. They apparently hold Saturday night dances, I saw a flyer for one advertising Latin & Italian oldies, classics, and Top 40 from 8pm-12am with food, coffee, tea, dessert, and alcohol. I would love to see the crowd that comes out for that! This is a community center, so you can rent space or give money to various fundraisers they hold, all in all it's a great local resource.

We were just going to visit to kill time between…read morelanding at LaGuardia (another delightful surprise!) and our check in time in Midtown Manhattan, but it ended up being a highlight of our trip. The Queens Museum is in the same park that the World's Fair was held in both 1939 and 1964. The park is fantastic and it's fun to take photos in front of the Unisphere. The entry fee for the museum is optional but I paid the suggested $8 per head and thought it was worth it - the museum does not have a lot of exhibits but what is there is super interesting! The main attraction is the giant Panorama of the City of New York. It's a continually updated map of the city with buildings and even tiny scale model airplanes taking off and landing. The lights in the room brighten and dim to simulate day and night, and during nighttime, the lights in the buildings come on. Only Far Rockaway was left off the map due to space considerations. I am a map geek, so this was heaven for me! They also have a room with memorabilia from both World's Fairs, and map of the 1964 World's Fair that is similar to, but smaller than, the Panorama. There is a great exhibition on Tiffany glass lamps. Not only was the display of lamps absolutely gorgeous, the information about the history of the glassworks in Queens (a factoid I was not aware of!) and the process for making the glass was fascinating. Less interesting to me, but fascinating to Larry, was the relief map of the NYC water supply system. The Queens Museum is absolutely a great stop if you are in the area!

In 2019, the stalls raised their maximum price to $6, which remains the same today in 2026. From a recent 2026 Gothamist article though, 2026 will be the last year for the $6 cap so 2027 may potentially be increased to $7 cap or be eliminated. that is in the air right now. Despite the pricing/portion value, QNM is great way to try different cuisines all in one place. its a great way for growing families to chill in an open grassy area that has music and pop-ups at times (ie: HK VITA brand lemon tea had a pop up there). Parking is crowded so its best to walk from 7 train-111th st hall of science train stop or uber if you live close by. Overall, QNM is a nice event to go with friends to share items, but im personally losing the allure of it after going a few times over the years with diminishing returns.

There were definitely parts of the museum that were not appropriate for the four-year-old. It's not just the Muppets, people! The Muppets are great, but then there's The Exorcist and a whole lot of other things happening in there. So, depending on the ages in your group, you may need to do a little navigating. But we had a great time. The Muppets were a hit, and we checked out Felix the Cat--which thoroughly confused the four-year-old but was mostly age-appropriate. The arcade was another winner. We spent a whopping $5.50 and had a great time playing the games. Sometimes it really doesn't take much! We also enjoyed the MoMI Lab. There was a computerized dog that completely captured the four-year-old's attention while simultaneously terrifying her. She couldn't quite decide whether she wanted to get closer or get away from it, but all was well. And the café was a hit too! We ended our afternoon with a grilled cheese, two donuts, and a latte. Everybody got something they wanted, which is about as successful as an outing with a preschooler and a teenager can get. Overall, it was a fun afternoon with plenty for both ages to explore. Just do a little homework beforehand if you're bringing younger kids so you know which exhibits to wander into--and which ones to wander right past.

It was truly amazing in such an understated way. It felt like stepping back into the 1960s--stretching over to see your neighbor for a quick hello--only to be instantly reminded of whose living room you were actually standing in. The kitchen and bathrooms were a real time-capsule blast! And the office, in particular, was extra special for me. Seeing Louie's many reel-to-reels and his demo library, where so much of his world-loved magic came to life, was incredible. My father was an opera singer during that same era, even a bit earlier, and Pop's equipment and effects were an exact replica! And God bless Lucille Wilson, Louie's last wife. Talk about being ahead of her time! Ms. Wilson singlehandedly loved this man enough to recognize the enormous impact Louie had made--and how vital it was to preserve his home, his music, and his legacy. She fought to have it recognized for its landmark and historical significance. She was a dynamo in her own right, with a deep understanding of "things to come." She was also a community activist--and an absolute "wallpaper" junkie... You'll see exactly what I mean the moment you cross the doorway into this unique, beautifully preserved bygone era. God bless Satchmo and Lucille. And most of all, God bless the hardworking individuals at the Louis Armstrong Center and the historic home who meticulously care for and preserve the world of one of America's greatest citizens and most beloved icons.
