I was so incredibly grateful for Helping Hands and Sharon fitting us into their schedule. As a first time mom new to Toronto I had zero support. I was so grateful for Sharon's care of our daughter and guidance for me as a new mother. She showed me how to use my breast pump, ways to help feed a bottle, burping and baby wrapping methods. She made me feel at ease and helped me get some rest in those early nights. Something I didn't think I could do anything about. I highly highly recommend considering a night doula if it's in your budget. It gave us peace of mind and we would definitely hire again for another child.

We had a WONDERFUL virtual/in person experience with Kristi and Jabir. Due to the pandemic, when we…read morehired them we went for the virtual package pre and post natal. We had a really informative and helpful one on one zoom call about 1.5 months prior to my due date, but they were answering my questions in our group WhatsApp chat from the moment I signed up! They always responded so promptly, and put our minds at ease. I had a c-section scheduled, but went into labour two days before! So Kristi was able to help guide me through the symptoms and contractions and advise us when we should head to the hospital. After we came home, we utilized them a LOT for all our baby questions from sleep patterns, rashes, breastfeeding, anything! We upgraded to have our lactation specialist come into the home and help us - 100% worth it and we still refer back to what we learned with her. Kristi is well versed in breastfeeding techniques, so helped us keep up with things - and when our baby cried straight for two days, was able to advise us over a call that the baby might still be hungry and need top ups, and solved our crying baby! We used our last session for an in person visit with Kristi, so she could meet our baby (lower risk times) and still she helped us with gas issues/ideas to help baby, etc. I cannot recommend this service enough! I'm a first time Mom, and having them in my corner was the best thing I did for myself and my family. Do not hesitate to hire them - even virtually - because they really do go above and beyond and it's a wonderful experience.

My husband and I HIGHLY recommend Kate as a Doula. She brought an incredibly calm energy to a…read morestressful event, and ensured that we felt informed and supported every step of the way through the birth (even joining the OR for the c-section when we requested it!) From preparation in advance...through to follow up with our newborn a week after, Kate was always available to answer any questions that we had to help us navigate this exciting time. Thank you Kate!

Kate the great! It's cheesy but true. Here's why:…read more We hired Kate for my second labour. My first labour was okay. It was a textbook labour (aka "easy") and epidural-free, under the care of midwives in a birth centre. That being said, I felt traumatized by it for quite some time afterwards. The pain totally surprised me and I felt like things got out of control. It was otherworldly and, quite frankly, I needed more support than I got. During my second pregnancy, I did some research. I realised midwives, doctors, and nurses are great as healthcare providers, but they don't provide much emotional support. I wanted more emotional support and I wanted A LOT of suggestions on how to manage the pain in the moment. Enter Kate. She impressed me right away because I could see she was super organised. She also had an immense toolkit to manage pain and calm emotions. Hiring her was a no-brainer (although I admit I had some sticker shock -- more on this later) My second labour ended up being more challenging than the first (epidural failed, baby was stuck, etc.), but it felt better and more peaceful thanks to Kate's presence. Nothing about it felt traumatic. I cannot recommend Kate enough. Don't believe my review? My husband was skeptical prior to meeting Kate. "I don't think she'll be able to offer much more than a midwife", he said. After meeting her, he was surprised and impressed by her knowledge and toolkit. After labour, he agreed with me that she was worth every penny.

I was pretty much left in the care of a student from labour (well not even since they left me the whole day at the hospital) to a complicated delivery (for which they were late) and infection thereafter. I had a natural birth and this helped me heal much faster. If it wasn't for midwives, I'd have asked for an epidural midway through my labor. Mary, Bianca, and Tarah did a great job. Brigid assisted as well. At St. Mike's I had a spacious delivery room with jacuzzi and a great view of Toronto. Thank you, guys, for your help and encouragement! Prenatal and postnatal support was fabulous. Almost always my appointments were on time. Being a first time mom, I worried about many things and gave quite a few early morning and weekend calls to Mary and Fariba. All, including the student, Tarah, were very knowledgeable. They provided awesome support and on one occasion came to visit me earlier than scheduled to make sure all was fine. I would not have received this level of support anywhere else. Absolutely outstanding care!

The laissez-faire attitude, forgetting or not mentioning the option to run routine tests like the glucose test until the window had passed...it's like prenatal care "lite". I have had two fantastic birth experiences with midwife alliance…read more For my first daughter, I thought I was going to go with a midwife and a hospital birth, but when I found out I'd have to share a bathroom with other women in labour at St. Jo's, I decided on a home birth. My husband was not convinced at first, but he met with our midwife and she laid out all the facts, concerns, etc. She reassured him that our house was only 10 minutes from the hospital, so if an emergency were to come up (which apparently does not happen very often like it does on TV-usually there is time), they would call the hospital and we'd likely still have to wait for a room upon arrival. She also assured him that if there was a snowstorm on the day I went into labour, we would have to have a hospital birth 'just in case' we needed to get there. After his chat with her and some additional research on his own, he was convinced! My water broke when I was on the toilet, my midwife came when I needed to her and I had an extremely successful first home birth experience (baby arrived 6 hours after my first symptom). For my second pregnancy, I had threatened preterm labour at 28 weeks and had to go live in Sunnybrook hospital for a couple of weeks. My midwives were quite reassuring through the whole ordeal and even said they would try to come and be labour support if I did end up having a preemie (since midwives are not allowed to deliver before 34 weeks or something like that). Fortunately, my scares went away and I had another succesful home birth just 3 days before my due date. My second birth happened so quickly, I would not have made it to the hospital, so thank goodness I had midwives!
