I switched my family to Malouf Family Dentistry and I am so glad I did! I called in on a Friday and…read morewas able to get a new patient appointment for my 10 year old on Monday! My concern was an adult tooth that was growing in and causing pain because the baby tooth wasn't coming loose. My daughter was very nervous, as most kids tend to be when the dentist is involved. When we arrived, the staff was friendly and welcoming, putting her at ease. The receptionist was very kind and again, there was no waiting. We filled out a few new patient forms and my daughter went straight back with the hygienist for her x-rays and cleaning. Minimal wait times are appreciated when an anxious child is involved! After her cleaning, she saw Dr. Malouf. After her exam, Dr Malouf called me back to explain what needed to be done (baby tooth pulled) and that he would be able to do it with a topical anesthetic - and as he kindly put it 'no s-word (shots) required'. His avoidance of a word that he knew would cause a child fear was charming and thoughtful. His explanation of the process was thorough and phrased in a way to keep my daughter calm and relaxed. When he was done, he called me back again to discuss follow up care and to make sure neither my daughter or I had any questions. His emphasis was on keeping my daughter comfortable and making sure I knew what to do if she was feeling any pain. When she was done, she was able to choose a prize and left the office happy. At first glance, the office does not appear to cater to children. I can assure you that the staff is kind, caring and compassionate. I can't recommend Dr. Malouf and his staff enough, they were wonderful! As my daughter put it "two, thumbs up!".

Needed my bridge done due to a failed implant and the front desk attempted to charge me 750 dollars when under my delta plan is 100% covered. This confusion on THEIR part snowballed into a month of calling my insurance spending hours on the phone due to the dentist office negligence. The office had to be called, begged and reminded NUMEROUS times to send a pre-auth confirming what I knew that my bridge was covered. Instead they sent my insurance company terrible, ambiguous and outdated things. My insurance denied what they sent twice sending me in a tizzy and perplexed. When I would call the office for updates they did not know anything and never called me to inform me of anything. I switched dentist.. got my temp bridge placed THAT day and what do you know.. they confirmed what I KNEW, my insurance plan that I pay for covers bridges 100%..

I have always appreciated the care I have received from him. My concern is with an interaction I had with dental hygienist Melissa. During my visit, I asked for information about my son's upcoming dental appointment. As his father, legal guardian, and the person providing his dental insurance, I expected either the requested information or a clear explanation of any office policy that prevented it. Instead, the conversation included what I perceived to be unnecessary gossip, bias opinions, and commentary that had nothing to do with my request. Rather than simply addressing the question or referring me to someone who could, the interaction became uncomfortable and unprofessional. Later that same day, I called the office and spoke with the receptionist, who provided the appointment information without any difficulty or unnecessary discussion. Based on my experience, I encourage the practice to ensure that staff remain professional, avoid unnecessary personal commentary or gossip, and communicate office policies consistently and respectfully. While I have had many positive experiences with this practice over the years, this interaction fell well below the standard I have come to expect, which is why I am leaving a one-star review. Steer clear of Melissa.

Oh how I miss my dentists at Gentle Dental…read more I am terrified of the dentist. I am also terrified of needles. This meant that growing up I had a lot of teeth pulled..without novacaine. After not seeing a dentist for 5 years, I finally sucked it up and made an appointment with Gentle Dental. They were great during the exam, at which point I found out I had two cavities and I needed an intensive cleaning called a scaling and planing that was so painful it needed to be done over 2 appointments. Both times the dentist was awesome. They gassed me for the novacaine which was administered much less painfully than I had anticipated. For my comfort, they decided to keep me gassed for the entire 2 hours of the procedure. It hurt, but it was not the torture session I imagined. Gentle Dental really is gentle, and they did such a great job and explaining things to me and helping to ease my fears.

Remind you this was in February. It's now June they made me pay a $75 fee two weeks ago and I was a little bit late for an appointment today. Yes my responsibility because of my daughter's 24 hour cancellation fee and my late appointment. They will no longer let me schedule appointments only same-day visits for everything cleanings fillings everything so I couldn't get seen at my appointment at 4 o'clock. I arrived at 4:20 because they scheduled me for a 5 o'clock emergency visit because I have a piece of bone fragments sticking out of my mouth from having a tooth removed two weeks prior and a massive infection mind. They took me back at 4:30. Couldn't remember the bone because the infection was so bad I have to get antibiotics. They're allowing me to schedule an appointment for next week to get the bone fragment removed at that time. I have to pay $700 I have insurance so with my insurance I still have to pay $161 co-pay at the time of my visit to remove a piece of bone fragment that they left in my mouth two weeks prior that's causing a severe infection and will not go away until it's removed and we put on strong antibiotics. I have to pay for a service that I already paid for that wasn't done right the first time. The Dentist and hygienist are wonderful the ladies at the front desk, not so much and have no problem humiliating you in front of other patients that are there waiting in the waiting room. I am so sad and disappointed.

The staff at Robyn's office is also very caring, pleasant and professional. Robyn is a good age for a doctor - old enough to have lots of experience, but young enough to keep up to date with current practices. As part of the latter, Robyn participates in a regional dental study group where several dentists discuss new technology and techniques. Her office has state-of-the-art equipment that allows her to do advanced treatments. She offers a very broad range of treatments/services ranging from the most basic to quite sophisticated. Showing Robyn's peer stature in dentistry, she is a past president of the Detroit District Dental Society. From a patient perspective, Robyn also is very good at explaining what needs to be done, why, how it will be accomplished, and the cost. She also presents alternatives when appropriate. Robyn values a knowledgeable staff, and explains what she's doing during treatment. There is a recognition that dental issues don't always arrive at convenient times.
