Great full service dive shop! I buy all my equipment from DSI, taking advantage of the expertise of the people (divers) who work there. There is a great group of instructors affiliated with the shop and I have gotten nearly all of my diving certifications from them. Plus, there are several dive trips available through DSI every year and I've gone on a number of them. I took their Intro to Scuba Diving class and it was so much fun! I would highly recommend it. They have Intro Class openings most Saturdays. Ours was 11am-3pm. We met at the dive supply store and there was about an hour of classroom education. Basic safety information and intro to the gear, etc. They gave us about an hour to grab lunch and drive over to the nearby high school (New Palestine) pool. We put on our gear in the pool and got to learn how to: *breath under water with the regulator (or "breathing thingy"), *how to remove the regulator and put it back in (and clear the water) before breathing again *how to clear water from googles if/when water got in (without coming to the surface) *how to adjust our buoyancy using the vest *how to kick with flippers (not swim with arms) *hand signals to use to communicate underwater *adjusting inner ear pressure with the Valsalva Maneuver We each practiced our skills one-by-one under supervision by the instructor, then when we were all comfortable we did a couple swimming laps in the shallow end. (Depth between 3-6ft). Then we had about 30-45min of free swim time at the end to swim around and play and practice skills as we wanted. The instructors were under water with us to check and make sure everyone was comfortable and safe. You could go to them with questions or concerns and communicate underwater, or signal you wanted to go up to the surface to get a question/concern answered. It was really fun and a great way to go scuba diving in a safe environment without having to commit to the full cost/time commitment of getting scuba certified. But if you love it, they also offer courses that go into more depth and allow you to become scuba certified! Great day date idea for couples or adventurous friends! We had a groupon for this which made the "Try Scuba" cheaper. Normally it is $60 per person. Check groupon to see if they offer it again. Jimmy and his team spent hours with us ensuring everything was perfect for us. What few items we needed which they didn't have in stock they were able to order and get quickly. Another aspect which sets Divers Supply apart from online retailers, is the warranty and return policy they offer. If anything doesn't fit correctly or isn't up to par with what you expect, they will exchange it for something that works better or will refund your purchase. There are no return shipping charges or guessing about which product to get. They will personally work with you until everything is right. The customer service can't be beat. Their prices are unbelievably competitive. A few products were just slightly higher than you can find on Amazon.com, most products were nearly the same as online and you could try it out firsthand in the store, and some other products were as much as 30% less than the prices on Amazon. Mom and pop shops generally can't compete with the online giants but not only do they match the prices, in some cases they beat them handedly. They will also work with your schedule to set up trainings and even work with setting up travel plans for those certifications you can't complete around the Indy area.
