Upon breaching the surface, I came to the back of the boat where the Dive Master was ready as he saw me coming.

The beach and pool are always a good time, but nothing beats being on the open water so we booked a catamaran ride through Island Time Sailing. We booked a good month in advance and the company was very communicative when we reached out regarding possible bad weather in the area during our trip. Well, the bad weather never came and the day arrived for our sailing. We arrived early as instructed and parking was not an issue. They share a space with The Dock PCB which is a waterfront bar. Island Time has a little booth off to the side where you check in and get your boarding passes. Once checked in, we grabbed some drinks at The Dock and patiently waited to set sail. The area has plenty of seating both covered and out in the sun. The dock is off to the side and I am not sure if it's exclusively for Island Time. We set up shop right by the dock and were first in line to board. If you want a prime seats on the boat, get there early like us. We were greeted by our captain Cristo so brought us on board. There we were introduced to Emma and Emily who made sure everybody had a great time on our trip. They were our bartenders, but they also anchored the boat, helped everyone out in the water and generally made the trip so much more fun. Give those girls a raise! Our trip to Shell Island was nice and smooth. They kept a steady pace and found a great spot to anchor. Once we anchored, we were free to do what we wanted for a few hours. They gave us clear instructions on watching the flags on the boat to know when it was almost time to go as well as when you needed to have your butt back on the boat. They also sound an alarm. There is absolutely no reason why you should miss getting back on board on time. The place we anchored was perfect. The water felt great. It was clean and had great access to a beautiful beach area which we explored a little bit. While we were in the water, a few different food boats came around for things like BBQ, tacos and ice cream. Emma and Emily were checking on us frequently and getting drinks for us when needed. On the ride back, Cristo even had enough wind to set the sail which was cool to see. The whole ride was filled with great music as well. Overall, we had a fantastic time on this excursion. I highly recommend it if you are visiting Panama City Beach. I will definitely come back next time I am in the area.

For the kids, they were allowed to drive the boat a bit (under supervision), had squirt gun fights, temporary tattoos, and pulled up a crab trap to let the kids (safely) handle a live crab. My 6 year old grandson loved it! We will likely return next year.

We liked that there were plenty of seats on the dock to sit in wait ( first come first serve for your group). When it was time to load, we got our picture taken (pictures are $10), and loaded on to the boat. We sat behind the food/ drinks area in the front row. Unfortunately, because of the weather we only saw 1 pod of dolphins and everyone ran to the side of the boat and we were not able to get a photo. We did enjoy the boat ride and learning the history of the area. The staff, captains, and everyone working on board had excellent customer service, they were entertaining and made the experience enjoyable. All of the food and drinks on board are under $5! So loved how affordable it was. I would say that this cruise was definitely for kids and families. They had a lot of kids activities and we were in the middle of all of it, which is fine- but I think that families should be aware of where most of the entertainment is or what sections to sit in and people who don't have kids can sit or elderly so they don't get run into. For the kids, each child gets a turn to steer the boat in the bay, we got to go to bird island ( and we're swarmed by birds- so if you don't like birds I would not do this cruise), they sell food for you to buy and the birds will eat it out of your hand. Then, the other boat pulled up next to ours and the kids hand a huge water gun fight and got soaked. We had to move out of the way. There are no towels on board so bring your own- but they drive fast after so you can dry off! Last, they caught a crab trap from the ocean they had put out and brought on 2 blue crabs and 1 spider crab, and all of the kids got to hold them. We also enjoyed the mix of music and that it wasn't too loud. If you go on the sea screamer and have kids sit by the snack and drink area under the covering behind the captain for the best experience. If you don't have kids or don't want to do the interactive stuff sit in the front or back.

We opted for the 10 Hour Trip (2 hours out, ~6 hours of fishing, 2 hours back). Quick edit: we only had ~26 people fishing and I'm thankful for that! It was coooooold the morning of and it had stormed the previous two days. Thankfully we were prepared. I'd recommend bringing a book bag or light sack with: sunscreen, hat, glasses, long sleeve shirt/hoodie, Gatorade, rain jacket and change of shirt. They do provide sunscreen, medicine, food, snacks and drinks onboard for a cost (see my menu photos). It was ROUGH going out, thanks to the storms leaving. We hit 5-6 foot waves and it was bumpy on some parts. I almost lost my stomach and went to the back of the boat for fresh hair for the last 45 minutes going out. There were a few people who got really sick. Make sure you clean your system out before getting on the boat (ie: get your out) because the two bathrooms are tiny. We were assigned fishing spots (dad got us back of the boat) and had buckets of squid ready to go. Capt would hit his horn, letting you know it was time to drop the line in. You'd pretty much either get something right away or nothing. It didn't take long to get the hang of it: drop to the bottom, reel twice up, keep the line tight, jerk the rod when you feel a nibble, reel up and check rod pressure to ensure you got something. It's a very quick process! One thing you'll notice is the different arm muscles you'll use. I caught the only Grouper for this trip and it certainly tired my wrist out. I literally got a Charlie horse in my wrist and toe after hauling that sucker onboard. It wasn't Red Snapper season (June 1st) but my dad caught 3 huge Red Snappers. We got to keep 10 B-Liners each, and also caught some white snapper. Overall, we hit our limit and caught extra for others on the boat. The helpers did an awesome job! The ride coming back in was pleasant and we sat on top of the boat. It was a fun experience! Make sure to tip the Captain and your helper! Great crew and they got the job done! There is also a fish cleaning place at the dock that'll fillet the fish for you at $.80/lb.
