5 hr fishing trip. Took about an hour and a half to get out to sea and back. Total fishing time was about 2 hours. Had some decent bites, couple of triggerfish, red snapper, a lot of beeliners, and even an amberjack. Recommend for first time fishers! For more experienced fishermen I suggest a longer trip. read more

My dad booked us a Deep Sea Fishing trip with Capt. Andersons in Panama City. We hadn't been in close to 30 years so I was excited. We opted for the 10 Hour Trip (2 hours out, ~6 hours of fishing, 2 hours back). Quick edit: we only had ~26 people fishing and I'm thankful for that! It was coooooold the morning of and it had stormed the previous two days. Thankfully we were prepared. I'd recommend bringing a book bag or light sack with: sunscreen, hat, glasses, long sleeve shirt/hoodie, Gatorade, rain jacket and change of shirt. They do provide sunscreen, medicine, food, snacks and drinks onboard for a cost (see my menu photos). It was ROUGH going out, thanks to the storms leaving. We hit 5-6 foot waves and it was bumpy on some parts. I almost lost my stomach and went to the back of the boat for fresh hair for the last 45 minutes going out. There were a few people who got really sick. Make sure you clean your system out before getting on the boat (ie: get your out) because the two bathrooms are tiny. We were assigned fishing spots (dad got us back of the boat) and had buckets of squid ready to go. Capt would hit his horn, letting you know it was time to drop the line in. You'd pretty much either get something right away or nothing. It didn't take long to get the hang of it: drop to the bottom, reel twice up, keep the line tight, jerk the rod when you feel a nibble, reel up and check rod pressure to ensure you got something. It's a very quick process! One thing you'll notice is the different arm muscles you'll use. I caught the only Grouper for this trip and it certainly tired my wrist out. I literally got a Charlie horse in my wrist and toe after hauling that sucker onboard. It wasn't Red Snapper season (June 1st) but my dad caught 3 huge Red Snappers. We got to keep 10 B-Liners each, and also caught some white snapper. Overall, we hit our limit and caught extra for others on the boat. The helpers did an awesome job! The ride coming back in was pleasant and we sat on top of the boat. It was a fun experience! Make sure to tip the Captain and your helper! Great crew and they got the job done! There is also a fish cleaning place at the dock that'll fillet the fish for you at $.80/lb. read more

Well i tried them again this year hoping it would be better. It was so much worse. People on the boat still smoking Marijuana. Then then let the regulars bring coolers and use braided fishing line. They kept getting tangled in my dad's line. He didn't get a single keeper and only caught 3 fish on a 10 hour trip. Not worth 135 for that. read more

We were looking for something to do with the grandkids Labor Day weekend and we started looking at this for an adventure. We opted for an evening Sunset Cruise that fit our plans. The cruises depart and return timely. We purchase our tickets online and we picked up our tickets at the window from Portia. The kids had a blast when they got to steer the boat and blow the horn. We also fed the sea gulls and watched the dolphins off the side of the boat. If you get hungry, they had food and snacks below at the counter for purchase. Bathrooms are below. Note to self: come back on your birthday and you get to drive the boat (or at least sit in the Captain's chair)! If the sunset cruise is for you, have your cameras ready because the sunsets are spectacular. This cruise was unexpectedly fun and we will definitely do this again! read more

This was the most affordable trip we could find and they go the extra mile. We were thrilled to visit Shell island for an hour then drive around and see lots of dolphins. The ship also gives you the opportunity to feed the seagulls, pull up a trap in the middle of the bay to catch critters, and drive the boat. I booked the 5 hour morning fishing trip on the North Star Express from Captain Anderson's website. I was able to book this a few days in advance. The trip leaves at 7am and you have to come about 30 min before that to check in. It's $70 per person for fishing. $32 if you're just a rider. The boat was incredibly overcrowded. Once we stopped to fish, everyone's lines were tangled, some were catching and some weren't because there are just too many people. They tell people to basically keep every fish just so at the end it looks like you caught a stringer full. Dumb. I released almost all of mine because they weren't edible fish. I really should've known better, but it was an ok time. I would not book this again. That is for sure. read more

Could've been better. They leave on time, come back on time. We did the 5 hour on Capt Anderson 4. The water in the bathroom did not work. The mates don't do enough prep as we started with 3 reels that had birds nests. One was so bad they replaced the rod/reel. There is a time during the morning ride out they (the mates) aren't doing anything - it's common sense to check the gear you are passing out to your customers. That really torqued me the wrong way. It is just lazy work and not doing the smaller things that get unnoticed. My reel had not one but two splices of mono, so thumbing this thing was not a joy at all as your thumb is hitting these knots on the spool. The captain was good as he set the boat up to drift well with minimal tangles. That was the best part of the day. The fish we were put on were tiny. Tiny grunts and tiny beelines. It is as if every place we stopped at was a fish nursery. Not one fish over 3# was caught by anyone on that boat. It was dismal fishing but that's fishing. I am not returning. read more

Nightmare... trip from hell! Our family goes on multiple deep sea fishing trips per year. Never in our years of fishing have we experienced a trip like this. We booked a 10 hour deep sea fishing trip on 4/4/19. We booked this trip a week before departure. Not knowing that a storm with high winds would be hitting that day. A couple days before we found out that the weather did not look so good so we called and asked them if we could change it to another day. We were told not to worry if the weather was bad they would cancel the trip and reimburse us or book us on another day. They said if there is rough seas they would not leave the port. That was not the case.... When we got there it was as a little Windy not so bad. As soon as the boat left the bay into open water the wave started to get bigger and the sea stared to get rough! We were hit with over 12 foot waves and THEY DID NOT CANCEL THE TRIP OR TURN BACK!! My husband and my son's 14 year old freind Almost flew out of the boat. The rocking was so bad an older gentleman fell backwards on the deck! There was vomit all over the bathroom toilets and floor! When we got back to the port my husband went to the office with other passengers demanding our money back we were told that the owner is not there and she could not give our money back .After explaining to her that we are here from out of state she proceeds to gave him a hand written note on plain copy paper offering him 50% off his next trip that expires next month!! Needless to say we did not get what we paid for what we got was a trip from hell! Captain Anderson's charter License should be suspended! They should not be permitted to operate when they put the safety of the passengers in jeopardy just so they don't cancel a trip and lose money! If somebody would have actually fell off the boat and drowned this would be a whole different story luckily it only ended this way..... Hate to even give them 1 star but no option for zero star!!! read more

Eleven of us took the 5 hour fishing charter. We waited until the day before to book just to make sure the weather was optimum. The other reviews helped us know what to expect. The boat left right on time and the seas were almost flat calm. Our deck hand did an awesome job helping out with all aspects of the fishing and was very friendly. The fishing was a bit slow this day and they kept the boat moving from spot to spot to try to find the fish. We all caught at least a few keepers and we had our deck hand clean them. We fried them up that night and they were delicious. You cannot bring beer or coolers, so freeze some water bottles and pack sandwiches and drinks in a backpack or beach bag. Avoid the overpriced galley and bring your own snacks. Bring some warm clothes if it is the least bit chilly as you will be up on the top deck during the passage to and from the fishing grounds which takes about an hour or so each way. Bring wet wipes and paper towels. We would definitely use Capt Anderson'again. read more

It's always been a dream of mine to go ocean fishing and today my dream came true! I caught a triggerfish and many vermilion snappers and there were many dolphin sightings along the way. I'm so glad another charter service recommended Captain Anderson's, the experienced rom start to finish was top notch! The staff was great, Zander, my assigned deck hand went above and beyond, he had a great attitude, answered all of my questions and worked his tail off from the time we left the dock until we returned. RIPOFF our family spent 380 dollars spent two hours getting to the " fishing grounds" then he would let us fish maybe 10 minutes and then had to stop for him to drive us around lookin for fish out of maybe 36 people fishing we might have brought back 25-30 fish. This was the best meal we had all week while vacationing in Panama City Beach. Had to wait about an hour to get seated. You can go casual or dress up, we saw both that evening. I just wouldn't come off the beach and eat there, may feel out of place. Lots of choices on the menu. I had the scallops and they were to die for! Very tasty and creamy, melt in your mouth. My son had the crab stuffed jumbo shrimp. He said they were the best he's ever had. Wife had the seafood platter. To me I'd give it 3 stars. The lobster tail was chewy, stuffed crab had pieces of shell in it. This plate was average. Drinks were good. Service was perfect. Our waiter was on top of his game that night. They have a gift shop, wife made sure to hit that. Restrooms were clean, always a plus. read more

I've eaten at Captain Anderson's through the years but last night 03 /12/22 will be the last. Birthday celebration and totally embarrassed. First we arrive at 7:30. The first hour talking was fine but yet to be served. Finally, apologies but salad orders wrong, she crab soup was nothing but potato soup with a bite of crab. We all had a good laugh, broiled crab claws excellent but it takes your appetite away when you look at the plates she brought to share and see it's unclean with dried old food residue on two plates. Then the first first crab claw that was lifted from the butter sauce had a long hair hanging from it, we did place it on the napkin for the waitress to see, of course another apology. Finally the waitress returned after the appetizers which was about 45 minutes later and asked what one of us order she forgot to put in the order she later apologized and said it was the kitchens fault not hers. Some of the orders had substitutions but no one said anything.Next, on one entree the shrimp was so dried out on the skewer, it couldn't be pulled off . Finally off it seemed like it had been sitting in salt inedible!! The waitress returned and saw she said I'm telling the manager now. The manager returned and said she would replace it but it was almost closing time and we were seated at 7:30. He said no and declined. We were a party of 6 with a $250 bill plus tip. It wasn't the waitress I think it was more the kitchen anyway a bad night sitting waiting none of us wish to repeat. I think, after all these years, we are done with Captain Andersons! read more

We had heard from so many locals to go here so we saved it for our last night of vacation. They don't take reservations so we showed up around 5:30 PM in the pouring rain and it was surprisingly busy. We got a number for our table and went to the bar. They have an amazing selection of bourbon. We noticed that being from Kentucky. Within 20 minutes our table number was called so we went to sit at a perfect two seater out looking the marina. Our waiter, Casey was the best. We decided to start with his recommendation of crab fingers. These were soaked in butter and absolutely delicious. They also brought us a basket of rolls that were to die for. He recommended that we order something unique so my husband got the scamp fish Greek style. It's a form of grouper. I stuck with a traditional salmon and was glad I did because it was perfect. The sides were salads with homemade dressing and huge baked potatoes. I splurged and went with a bottle of Caymus which was perfect for the meal. We had a great evening and I could not recommend this place anymore. It is absolutely the best. read more

Had a good time out fishing with my fiancé and dad on the 6hour charter trip. Caught around 30 fish between the 3 of us: trigger fish, bee liners, lane snapper, sand perch and more. Though we had to turn back many fish because of seasons being closed and size regulations, we took home about 12 fish. Crew was really friendly and helped with any and everything needed. Educated newbies on how to use the equipment, tips and tricks to catch fish, took fish off, put fish on stringers in ice. Once the boat hit a spot and lines went in, fishing began and was good. When we stopped at a spot and not one would catch fish, the boat moved quickly to keep the action going! Our deck hand Rudy was awesome, very personable and seemed to enjoy our successes in the fishing. Boat got us to and from fishing locations with a comfortable yet outdated galley set up. Food and drinks were pricey but convenient if you didn't bring anything. We took a bookbag with Gatorades and sandwiches which worked well. Their website says no coolers, but several people had bag coolers and the rule wasn't enforced. Fishing equipment seemed older and had been used extensively as you would expect for commercial charter fishing gear, Penn 80 size reels made up the bulk of what we saw on board and poles varied, our equipment worked as expected. Charging $1 for a small hand towel to use while fishing to wipe squid guts and fish slime off- i suggest bringing your own. The galley as mentioned was pretty rough and the bathrooms could benefit from some TLC. This is our 3rd time using this company on this exact charter over the last 15 years and would definitely recommend for anyone to try as we likely will on future trips to Panama City Beach. read more

The staff should have had the cabin in a much better state PRIOR to passengers boarding. *Almost no fish worth keeping! This goes for everyone on the boat. There were only about 5 fish worth keeping among the entire group on the boat. The majority of what we kept pretty much looked like bait. When we got back to shore all the other passengers from other boats in the marina had tons of HUGE fish. Ours was the only boat where all the passengers had strings full of bait. Just got off of what was supposed to be a 5 hour fishing charter. I know we have to allow travel time to get to the fishing location. They tell you an hour and a half travel and the same coming back. That should leave about 2 hours off fishing time. That is not what happened. For $70 per person... we ended up with maybe 20 or 30 minutes of actual fishing because they kept moving the boat about every 10 minutes. So NOT worth the money. read more

Just getting around to leaving a review, but we went on the 6 hour trip in October. Being concerned about the virus, I asked ahead of time if there were a lot of people booked on our boat and they said that it was booked for less than half capacity. That made me feel so much better, as my spouse wanted to go so bad. Fast forward to the next day and we find out that they ended up combining another boat with our boat, so it was more than double out anticipated capacity. I get that that saves the company money, but the safety of the paying customers should come first. Fine, it was a nice ride (I was a rider only) and my spouse did catch a lot of fish, so that was nice. One more thing of note, I was very uncomfortable because I looked up and they were flying a political flag. That is very disrespectful when working with the public. Obviously, not everyone is going to be in agreement and paying customers should not have to be associated with that against our will, stuck on a boat. If it was on land, I would have left. Fishing isn't and shouldn't be political and if they planned to do something like that, they owe the public the courtesy of at least warning us. It's just incredibly disrespectful, and I would say that no matter which candidate it was. The crew was nice, as was the ride and we had a decent outcome with the amount of fish caught and that's the only reason I'm giving the 2 stars. read more

I've went deep sea fishing on the 5 hour trip two different times now and the experience is great. They move around a lot if the fish aren't biting. The first trip I caught a lot of fish, but this year I only caught one. It was the biggest one on the boat though. An Amberjack that I wasn't allowed to keep because it was out of season. It was great fun though. This year, my daughter went with me so it was fun watching her too. The lady inside that sells the food and drinks is nice and a fellow Hoosier and the deck hands are so hot. WASTE OF MONEY! We went on the early morning 5 hour deep sea fishing trip. It took us an hour and a half to get to our destination. Once there we would stay in one spot for less than 20 minutes and then moved to a new location. Our total fishing time was probably an hour or hour and a half. The staff were rude and condescending. There was very little direction or instruction. Instead they gave you a few pointers and then would scold you when you were doing something wrong. There were so many people on this boat that it was impossible to fish without tangling your line up with someone else. And then you got yelled at for it. We caught 5 fish total for the day. Total disappointment. By the end of the day all I wanted to do was get off the boat as soon as possible. The only good thing was the microwave pretzel we got on the way back. read more

Delicious meal on the waterfront for all three of us! The service was perfect, my husband's ice tea glass was never empty. Fresh baked rice rolls are both crusty and soft. Greek salad was delicious as were the fries and mashed potatoes. If you get the cedar plank salmon as my son and I did, we recommend blackened. They do not over do the spices.We both agreed it's some of the best salmon we've ever had. My husband ordered and liked the fried shrimp and fries. He said the hush puppies were good. Although dessert looked tempting and is homemade, all three of us were stuffed and couldn't handle one more bite. The gentlemen manning both the entrance and exit were warm and friendly. The place was busy, even on an October Wednesday. We will definitely be back and we recommend Captain Anderson's to others. read more

Well, where do I begin? My family and I booked several spots on a 5 hour deep sea fishing trip with Captain Andersons. I believe there were about 11 of us in total. We were all thrilled to go deep sea fishing, it was alot of ours first time being deep sea fishing. This experience wasn't like other fishing trips I've been on. We were all very disappointed and will not be booking a trip like this again. I would not recommend this. When we arrived the ticket booths weren't open yet. We waited around and tried to get a drink from their drink machines, of course it didn't work. It just took our money. When we finally got on the boat we realized it was so so crowded. Each spot/person was spaced probably 1.5-2 foot apart. THE AVERAGE PERSONS SHOULDERS ARE LONGER THAN A FOOT ACROSS! You can see my dilemma here right?? I cannot count how many times one of our lines would get caught with each other or with a stranger. The person to my husband's right brought his own live bait and fishing poles. He had his pole in front of my husband the WHOLE TIME! WITH HIS LIVE BAIT RUNNING AROUND EVERYONES LINES! The employees were aware of this. The employees did not enforce personal space, boundaries or covid precautions of any kind. If we knew we were paying for a fishing trip for someone else to be in our spots, getting tangled in lines more than actually fishing then I would of NEVER booked this trip. I absolutely do NOT recommend it to anyone. There were far to many people. It was way over booked. Not worth the price. The spots they took us were not amazing. I caught maybe 4 fish the whole time. My little brother beside me caught ZERO the whole time, and it really ruined his whole vacation. ALSO we were told we could not bring coolers or food. (I've had gastric surgery and have special requirements) but of course I didn't make a fuss because they said there were food and drinks on the ship. For breakfast I asked my husband to run in and get me some breakfast and a drink. My husband returned 25 minutes later with a breakfast sandwich that consisted of 2 pieces of white bread, nothing done to it. An egg with no seasoning. And a sausage patty that looked so old and shriveled up it was terrifying! I took a bite and immediately spit it out. I absolutely could NOT eat it, it was not edible food whatsoever. My husband took a bite, spit it out and then threw it away. They ought to be ashamed of the "food" that comes out of there. My family also seen the sandwich and made the decision not to eat food from them! Im not really sure what to think of the employees.. They helped as often as they could to get any fish off the lines and to detangle lines. Which wouldn't be a problem if they didn't expect people to be nut to butt on there. But the young boys working ALL took off their shirts for most of the trip. Never seen a professional fishing company do this. Every time I tried to look at the view or ocean while sitting inside I kept getting a shirtless boy in front of me, and I promise you that's not what I wanted to see on a fishing trip with my husband and family. Also the employee didn't care about the customers being near by while spraying the floors and spraying bait. While spraying bait at one point the dirty water splashed onto my husband's drink and we of course threw it away. Now if you have taken your time to read all of this. Surely you can make the right decision and not waste your time and money here. read more
