My next lesson we're going to focus on swing. I like Chris's style of teaching. He shows you the steps, let's you practice but also teaches techniques to help improve style. This part makes you stand out when you go dancing in public. I'm excited to try a group lesson as well and a social event. Chris explained the group lessons help you be more comfortable dancing with multiple partners because everyone's style is different and you have to be ready for anything. From the day I contacted them, there has been excellent communication and easy scheduling. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming! Our coach Krista is the best! We are both beginners and she exudes patience and a positive energy at all of our lessons. She is a skilled dancer and we aspire to get to her level of expertise. I love how the dance trance classes incorporate current music and that it varies by class so you aren't constantly doing the same thing. I also took an urban ballet class that was super fun and made me wish that I knew more about ballet.

Within a very short period of time, my instructor, the very capable, hard-working and patient Amelia Delahaye had me doing things on the dance floor that I didn't think were possible for me. I've already exceeded the expectations I had for myself when I started out. The owner, Larry Audije, and his gracious staff of highly trained professional instructors have always made me feel welcome, comfortable and at home as I continue to hone my skills and improve as a dancer. They also have three fun social events a month: a dance party, a non-dance activity (e.g. karaoke, indoor rock climbing, or go-karts), and Rueda in the Park (a group dance in Memorial Park). The Director, Ally, has created a warm, friendly atmosphere. I remember once, in my early days at the studio, going out the door after a group lesson when I heard her shout "no one leaves without a hug." I turned around, went back in, and got my hug. Dance Salsa Jax is a nonprofit that rents space at two studios. They teach the most common Latin dances, Salsa (Sunday afternoons in Avondale) and Bachata (Wednesday evenings on Old St. Augustine Rd.). Ally also offers reasonably-priced private lessons. I'm glad I found this place, my home dance studio.

Most of the classes are geared for women but they do offer a Co-ed Yoga class. Let's be clear...I do NOT enjoy working out myself....but I'm getting older and time is not on my side! There's a variety of classes to choose from... pole classes (ladies, you'll be surprised what you can do!) strength conditioning, aerial yoga(once you take this class, a regular yoga class will seem BORING!). Shannon is a great instructor who challenges you but is mindful of your body's limitations. She will push you though! Sometimes a little ass- kicking is good for the soul;) Kelly and Dawn are amazing pole instructors who are not only patient going over every tiny step but help you find your inner sexiness...ooohhlala! This studio does it all! In addition, ballroom dance instruction is given to all ages. Some dancers are from eight to eighty! My individual instructor, Brian Brocato, is the best! Can't believe how much I have learned since I have had him as my instructor! In addition, all of the instructors ... Jake, Heather, Gil, Megan, Rosie (I've probably left someone out ... sorry) are so good at what they do. Another good thing? No partner is needed! Nellie is the instructor and is amazing with the kids and keeps them active the entire class. The kids are not waiting in lines to do an activity. While she is focusing on one student she has the other students practicing techniques or going through an activity course (practicing repetition).
