It offers vintage and one off clothing that's a bit different to the high street so if you don't want to look generic and fancy some quality items, head over here. The dresses are gorgeous and really perfect for the summer, floaty fabrics and funky prints. There's also a customised section of clothing. Everything is reasonably priced and the sales rail is most definitely worth a look - my friend found a stunning red body con dress for a tenner. Bargain. Beautiful jewellery as well. Follow the boutique on Facebook (Wanderland Boutique) for news and deals.

What a name. The rehabilitation of retro garments... I'm SO there…read more Dinky? I'll say. There's a lot to be said for small vintage shops as you can do all your rummaging quick sharp, and this place is perfect for that very purpose. As previous Yelpers have confirmed the stock rotation is indeed frequent, so be sure to pop in any time you're in the Northern Quarter. One of the things I love about this titchy boutique is the shoes... the brunette and I were drooling over little red pixie boots for quite some time. There are plenty of customised one-offs and second hand garments to choose from, and no doubt anything you buy from there will attract envious attention from friends. Unfortunately it doesn't cater for men, however a great many high street fashion shops don't either, so I don't have a gargantuan issue with that. The staff are very friendly and appropriately quirky themselves, so if you're stuck for inspiration you can always have a gander at what they're wearing. Prices vary depending on the item but no label has made me gasp in agony thus far. And I had no idea about the buy one get one free sales, so thanks to Alexandra I'll certainly be looking out for those in the future! And who can resist aqua-marine, well, I can't. This store has done extremely well in making itself conspicuous amongst the many shabby chic boutiques along Oldham Street, and it has definitely earned its place as one of the shops that very much makes the Northern Quarter feel like the Camden of Manchester. Chin chin to you, Retro Rehab.

Seriously, seriously lavish stuff, stepping in this store is like stepping back into the art nouveau world of the 1930's! The outfits sold here could easily be perceived as being a little tacky dare I say it. The collection I think this most applies to is the lace collection in pink and black. There are other collections that are classic and the staff are more than willing to listen to your suggestions. Just not sure if this is one of my favourite independent shops in Manchester.

I got a really nice summer dress here a few weeks ago and I've had loads of compliments about it because it is so unique and different. Their range is quite small and they don't have a lot of stock so if you see something you like you should jump in and get it because it might not be there next time. The girls who work here look amazing, there's a kind of laid back style to all of their stock which reflects in the staff and the atmosphere of the store. Will some great bags and bangles kicked in for good measure, Off The Cut is a great little boutique for all of your fashion needs. .

There's not an immense amount of clobber here, but what there is well chosen and cool. There are some great checked shirts, awesome shoes and some amazing retro adidas running jumpers. Bags of Flavor is a great little boutique, and the whole cool, relaxed vibe of the place makes it a worthwhile stop on a day spent visiting the huge variety of Manchester's vintage stores.

Let me educate you with a word in your ear, lean in close...... Everybody knows your secret- we shop there too! If you want to add a little individuality to your wardrobe you've got to do your research, scout about a little. Looking to other cultures is a good way to go, see how they do things. Another is to route out the little independent shops that lie just off the beaten track. If this all sounds a little too much like hard work then fear not for I have done the leg work for you this time and discovered a fantastic little place that marries both of my top tips. Maple Fashion, which can be found in Afflecks Palace, stocks a fantastic selection of Chinese & Korean sourced and influenced clothing for women. Being in Afflecks it has a real boutique feel but thankfully without the boutique prices. The staff are helpful and friendly and unlike days spent trawling the high street stores, your shopping experience will feel leisurely and unhurried as the store is still as yet undiscovered by the masses and there are lots of fabulous coffee shops in the building if you fancy a break.
