Pastries for sale

District 56 was the location for the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival Night Market, held from 5-8 tonight. There were at least 63 vendors, including several food trucks , including Cousins Maine Lobster truck. There was a large variety of crafts for sale, specialty and ethnic pastries, a lion dance and other entertainment throughout the evening. Church groups were also represented, sharing their outreach and services to consider. There was plenty of parking, in lots on both sides of the event, and on the street along Civic Center Drive, but there were more people, making it difficult to walk around easily. The crowd didn't seem to mind, because they were enjoying themselves.

This is a cool little spot. Parking was not difficult and easy walk to main facility. I came here for a local dance show and the rooms were a pretty decent size. Only small disappointing thing was that the café was blocked off and did not look open for business. Would have totally went for some snacks before the show on a Sunday!

I attended a phenomenal Mother's Day event and enjoyed a fabulous experience. District 56 is a superior venue for events. Spacious, modern amenities and roomy interior space for mobility devices. Clean and well maintained restrooms as well. Externally, the grounds are well kept, accessible with plenty of parking for everyone. District 56 is a gem in Elk Grove and the perfect venue for hosting events.

District 56 has so much to offer the community in Elk Grove: a beautiful public swim area, a cafe, classes of all kinds, picnic and outdoor play areas for kids, and a meandering walking path where you can view beautiful wildlife. I used to walk daily around my neighborhood, now I find it much safer and more relaxing to walk here. I can birdwatch everyday along the trail and have already spotted over twenty different kinds of birds, some I had never seen before! I really love this place. It is also fun to get food to go and to bring it here to dine. Though I am currently 49 years old, when I turn 50 I will meet the age requirement to take their classes. I am excited about this! The prices are so affordable and the facility so beautiful. I highly encourage others who live in Elk Grove to check out District 56. It is an amazing place to hold an event or just to get some peace in your day. I am so glad I stopped and became a regular here.

The Park at District 56 is awesome. It has a play area that is interactive, good for learning, motor skills development play equipment for 2-5 year olds. It has a larger hill and climbing structure for older kids, too. There are also hands on musical instruments that kids can play with: drums, xylophone. Lots of grass, trees, benches, gender neutral bathrooms, changing tables for baby, picnic tables. There's a pond, too with real and fake birds. Birds, squirrels and water fowl. Beautiful walking paths. Clean and well taken care of. Not sure if this park is considered part of the Preserve.

I have visited The Preserve at District 56 several times over the past few months. It's a beautiful place to take your favorite canine friends walking on a leash. Built a few years ago, the civic center grounds and facilities are impressive! There are buildings where scheduled classes are happening. There's a huge aquatic center campus. There's plenty of space surrounding these to serve as a public plaza for special events like the massive Trunk or Treat event for the community last Halloween. Out in The Preserve, there's a kids' play area with spongey rubber play surfaces so the littles don't fall on a hard surface. There's also an outdoor exercise patio for grownups to do isometric-based exercises. There are foot paths that will take you around the man-made pond, past banks of cattails and reeds, and over a foot bridge. The path goes through what was once a pistachio tree Grove. There is an kinetic art piece here with fronds that move and rotate with the breeze. There are some sitting areas facing the pond for private contemplating. There's also wifi in a covered patio/Ramada area area with toilets and a drinking fountain for humans and four-footed companions. It's all powered by a bank of solar collectors at the edge of the property, too. Some people put a lot of thought into this nice addition to the city.

We did our 4th Annual Toy Drive event with District 56 on Sunday Dec 4th and I must say the turn out was amazing. District 56 was able to hold 600+ people that were there. It was roomy, plenty of wall room in the hallway into the main hall. Bathrooms were clean and kitchen was free to use if you rent the entire hall. The staff were super helpful every time we need something from them. If you're looking for a place to book an event, I definitely recommend renting at District56.

My first time visiting this community center, thanks to Yelp Elite for heads up on FAM Filipino Food Hut. Beautiful summer day so hot Hot HOT! Nice mix of specialty vendor booths (clothing, jewelry, lotions, soaps, etc), community booths (breast cancer, animal love, etc) and of course Food! I got to come back again and hope the French yogurt and PIE booths are back. My hands were totally full carrying my Filipino box meals, Kalani Kakes and Thai Tea (I opted out of boba). My only suggestion is more shade is needed for vendors and visitors. Placing the booths under tree shade seems logical but maybe another reason why it wouldn't work? Anyhoo, nice facility grounds and look fwd to attending future events.

Visited for the neighborhood market and a yelp event and I was impressed. I've known about this location and have seen the outreach for events on Instagram but just haven't really checked out any events. This place has a lot of potential and likely due to covid really hasn't had too many compared to the older more seasoned areas. The new aquatic center looks amazing and definitely worth checking out and the civic center also looked spacious and a good place to hold a private event. The only issue I see is that there isn't much shade or as much seating as I would hope out here. There was a decent amount but I feel like it could use a bit more. There is quite a bit of parking on both sides which is good insight to have and the nature preserve they are building looks quite promising. Definitely worth checking out community events here just for the good number of local vendors but try visiting on a cooler day for a more comfortable experience!

Hubby heard about a new outside fitness spot from his friend. We brought the kids out here during lunch to check it out. It's actually an entire new community center and aquatic center. It is amazing with an inside cafe, conference rooms, senior center and outside is the actuation center, fitness center, kids park, seating/bbq area, a pond, walking track, and so much more.

My first time exploring this area of Elk Grove. A great central spot. Lots of paved walking trails. Not very long but we walked it a few times, criss crossing here and there. Absolutely LOVE the playground area! So much to do there, music area, a hill for climbing and rolling down, slides, swings, you name it. Give kids lots of time to explore this area. They can get some exercise, fun and sleep well later. There is an aquatic center, Senior Center, a Cafe, bathrooms and so much more. We went on a weekday so there was plenty of parking but I can see parking would be a problem on busy weekends. Parking on street is allowed. Check it out.

Th civic community center is very nice. It is both spacious and functional. Local events are held here at any time of the year. They have a senior center, cafe and function rooms inside for meetings or banquets. They also a Neighborgood Market event on Thursdays and food truck events once a week. Neighboring around the corner is the Aquatic Center and Trail Park nearby.

Got to experience this event last week on their Thursday Neighborgood market. The event was very nice with several vendors selling food, crafts, coffee and desserts. I saw about 40 vendors there on this evening. In addition, there was live music from 5:30-7 on the main stage as well as a cultural fashion show after that. We brought a couple of low back chairs to listen to the music and that ended up being a good idea as there is no seating to listen to the music. The venue was super clean and there was a parking lot with ample parking, so you don't have to park on the streets.

After this was brought to her attention it was completely ignored by the front desk staff including Renee who is one of the Board Directors. There are a lot of complaints by women of the knit and crochet group in how the yearly craft fair was handled and also in how Christine speaks to guests. She is very rude and disrespectful toward everyone. I am so very disappointed in this place. It's pretty, new and shiny on the outside but the staff and leadership is very poor. There was no apology and after speaking to the staff and teachers about it not ONE person was open to resolving my dissatisfaction. The two teachers I spoke to about it said that they ignore her and said I was letting the DIRECTOR WIN because I chose to leave this nasty place! I have revoked my membership and also complained to the Director Christine herself and two teachers and Renee the board member who was a witness to the Director's lack of an apology of publicly yelling and humiliating me in front of ASL class members. Everyone simply ignored me and had no reaction, comment or apology. This organization also is not culturally inclusive and has no plan to change this. Do not support the Senior Center. They are only interested in collecting your insurance money.

Technically the activity location is officially called the "New Aquatic Center" at 8025 Waterman Rd, not the Pat O'Brien Community Center but I'm leaving this review here for now until the "New Aquatic Center" gets its own business page. For only $30 for 4 classes, I signed up as something fun to do and cool off to end the summer, and to complement my Orangetheory workouts and Zumba classes. The 45-minute class is meant to help improve flexibility and range of motion, and to build cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength. I brought water shoes, a towel, swimming attire, and a hat. They didn't recommend any need for pool noodles. Check in at the window and after entering the gate, grab a pair of foam water dumbbells (black, blue, or purple -- I'm not too sure the difference) and choose a spot in the water. Winnie had a speaker with music playing and a whiteboard with the moves written out to follow along/refer to. The warm-up consisted of jogging a few laps in the water around the pool to start, followed by frog leaps around the pool. Lastly, butt-kicks underwater in place. First set was jumping West/North/East/South and back to center underwater. Next was the Superman, then Flutter Kicks for more core work. Then we did Front Raises with the water dumbbells. (The water dumbbells offer resistance underwater that will help tone and strengthen the arm muscles, abs, and back.) Set #2 consisted of Lateral Raises, a Standing Row, and Chest Fly moves with the water dumbbells. Finally, the cooldown was another jogging lap around the pool, one lap walking around the pool, then stretches for hamstrings, triceps, shoulders, neck, obliques, etc. It's a neat exercise alternative, and our instructor was Winnie (although her last class will be the August 13th as she's going back to college in SoCal). The class size isn't too big, and all ages represented! For the first meeting we were in the shallow end of the larger (laned) pool as there was only one lifeguard. They also have water aerobics offered Monday and Wednesday evenings 7:30-8:15PM, which continue into September and October (not sure about the Saturday ones). UPDATE: Instructor changed to Brittany (sp?) for remainder of the August Saturday sessions. Lots of parking. I know at the Pat O'Brien Community Center they also have Zumba classes, and Citizens Church meets on Sundays too. There's a walking path and basketball court too, sometimes they have craft fairs, car shows, and you might even catch Rico's Tamales for sale.

Although not in the best part of town, I feel it's actually quite safe here and it's very well maintained. It's very clean, the bathrooms in particular were really much cleaner than private sports clubs and gyms I've been to and although the hours are more limited, 8a-8p M-F and Sat 8a-12n, there's also a gym studio with pretty decent equipment (with a very reasonable membership fee). There are afterschool programs for kids here M-F 3-6p and some adults and teens drop in open hours type of sports offerings as well. The multi-purpose room (i.e. gymnasium) is huge and can turn into a full court for basket or a couple of volleyball courts. There's also a computer lab with open hours for public use, and there are 2 full basketball courts outdoors in addition to some grassy fields (not very big though), and of course the swimming pools which are open only for the summer season. Overall, Samuel & Bonnie Pannell Community Center remains a vital part of the community in Meadowview/South Sacramento area and provides quite a lot of free and paid facilities and recreation and sports programs for all ages.

Outside there are grassy fields for sports, a very large lap swimming pool and a kid's pool with some water features to include water pipes that would shoot or dump water down and water slides for kids. All in all, this is a good community center. I think the outdoors facilities could use some update, but generally, the grounds outside and the building itself have both been kept in good condition for the most part.
