We recently closed on a house that we wanted to painted prior to moving in. This is not the first home we have had interior paint done so we know what to expect with job completion and job clean up.
They got started on a Saturday afternoon, a few days earlier than we had planned due to someone coming in to clean and repair tile grout. I made sure the Shauna understood they had to make sure they covered the floors due to the tile cleaning and sealing--flash forward my husband and I have spent countless hours cleaning paint and overspray off the professionally cleaned floors. I continue to find areas of overspray that is in the tile grout, door handles, floor, professionally installed wallpaper in the master bath, etc.
Shauna asked if we had any issues with them working around the clock. I was fine with that since the house was vacant. She checked in the first few days to provide updates and said lots of progress has been done and provided some pictures. Around Thursday, I started to feel her projection and "thinking" they would be done by Friday was a long shot. My realtor stopped by Thursday night and let me know there was no way they would be done the next day, Friday, as initially quoted. Also note that there never seemed to be a "crew" on site until the last few days when random people we had never seen before were now there, slapping paint on the walls or ruining floors, walls, wallpaper, etc with sloppy paint work or excessive overspray. I have no idea if this "crew" had any painting experience based on the outcome of the areas they rushed to complete.
By Friday afternoon, not one person showed up to do any work. We reached out to Shauna with both a voicemail and text to finally get a call back that she had a migraine and had worked 16 hours the day before. There seemed to be a major lack of project management as they were not able to complete 1 room in entirety. It appeared they did some paint, then trim work, but got trim paint on the walls so then had to go back and fix the mess. I don't understand the lack of focus to complete a room at a time and move to the next. At this time we knew there was zero possibility that her projection of Friday was ever going to happen. She still had two bathrooms, laundry room, all closets, and kitchen to complete. We let them know we had movers planned for Monday since she projected 1 week to do the project. They continued to work Saturday and we told them had to be done Sunday since movers coming Monday. We realized they still had so much to do and again not ONE single room was complete. We had to reschedule movers, take additional days off from work to give them through Monday to finish. By 5pm Monday, we had to ask them to leave. I was horrified by the sloppy job that was done and lack of any completed rooms. It was clear the "crew" she brought in had no idea how to paint, properly tape doors/hardware or floors. We had to spend hours cleaning up paint off the floors in order to make sure we could move furniture in. On the surface, the job looks ok but then when you actually start looking, it is probably the worst paint job I have ever seen. Door handles and hinges are covered in overspray. Recessed lights, switches, etc covered in overspray. Touch up paint in semigloss on flat ceilings. Half attempt to start painting bathrooms, but it was clear they would never finish. It was obvious that after 9.5 days, they rushed in the end to attempt to finish a job and did a horrible, sloppy job. I will now have to either take time off work plus spend my weekends fixing the awful job they did or spend more money to hire actual professional painters to fix their terrible work. This was not the lowest bid, but this decision to hire Shauna will end up costing me more in time and money than had gone with a higher bid. I find areas daily on what we have to fix. I feel as though Shauna might be competent painting 1 room or an accent wall, but I do not think she has the experience to complete an entire house. I felt we did our due diligence prior to hiring them and even spoke with 3 references she provided but now feel we were mislead in her true ability to start, finish and clean up a job of this scope. My next step is to hire another company to fix everything Shauna failed to do properly, which includes paying for tile floor/grout cleaning again, removal of all doors and the hardware to clean off overspray and properly paint, fix baseboards and walls so properly painted, fix area with paint drips on walls, baseboards and door trim, properly paint two bathrooms, remove paint from kitchen cabinets, and the list goes on...time and money I was not expecting to spend. I will include some pictures to show how poorly the work was done.
