Mike was our realtor for our first home purchase. First of all, he is the nicest person ever. Second, he really knows what he's talking about, and takes the time to explain things so that you understand. We had a VA loan too, and he was a great help with that. Our house hunt was crazy, and I think we ultimately made like 9 offers, but somehow we always ended up dealing with a seller who was really trying to take advantage of us, especially on those flipped houses. My husband and I started a loan process for a refinance with Michael Disney/Disney Financial in October of 2014 based on his promise that he could "perform miracles" and get anybody a loan. The whole process was very tedious, his office often calling us to provide documents that we had already provided them with. After finally telling them that we had already provided them, they mysteriously found them. My husband must have made 30 trips to their office throughout this whole process. One lender finally fell through, and they send our application to another lender, only to find out a few months later that the lender did not even lend enough money for what we wanted. Addressing the issue, Michael Disney's reply to our questioning him regarding sending our loan to a lender that did not even meet our needs: "Let's see. I should be responsible for knowing every rule from over 100 lenders ... I just don't think that is possible... Do you?" What a waste of our time. On August 12, 2015 Mike Disney wrote us an email, stating that at this time he needed us to pay a "discounted" fee of only $495, and normally he would charge $795 processing fee. He also stated, "we can then assume processing to file and get you a quick approval. Without this authorization, we must move on to other files." Mike also assured us that this money would be deducted from the final closing cost. On November 24, 2015, Mike Disney wrote us an email "it is with a great deal of sadness that I must inform you, we will no longer work on this file." Mike further stated that they at each turn run across some new information that disqualifies the file (which was not true, because we still had an open approval from the lender, and nothing that we could not overcome). We told him that in this case, we would like to get our money back, that he asked us to pay upfront. He refused. We asked him three times, and every time he refused, so we finally told him that if he did not pay, we needed to go to court. His answer? "The judge will just laugh you out of the court room." Well, our court date was on April 26th, 2016, and the judge awarded us the $ 495 plus court cost. There was not even a question of how wrong Mike Disney's actions were. We also filed a complaint with the CA Board of Real Estate, and they are taking the complaint very seriously, and Disney is under formal investigation now. I am not normally to leave such lengthy feedback, but I do want to make other people aware that this company/broker is a shame to the industry, and that they have very shady work ethics.
