I have attended shows at Discovery Theatre many times, and my only complaint (thus the missing star) would be the railings that are literally in your face in sections 201 and 501. These are the two sections on either side of section 350 which is a level up and just behind the flat sections on the floor in front. Be careful when purchasing tickets. I sat through an entire opera with the railing directly in my sightline. I had to either hunch down or chin up. Very uncomfortable, and let me tell you- it was an opera that my husband dragged me to, so there was enough pain already! Discovery Theatre holds 750 people, so the atmosphere is intimate enough to enjoy the show without having to squint to see the details. In comparison to other theatres I have been to while traveling, we are very fortunate to have the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts here in Anchorage. With the larger Atwood Concert Hall which holds 2100 people, to the Sydney Laurence Theatre which holds 350, the Discovery Theatre is in between these two, which makes it quite versatile to provide a captivating performance of any genre. If it just wasn't for the (bleep!) railings. I understand they were placed there for safety reasons, however they are quite annoying. Fortunately, there are many other better seats to choose from. read more
