I even reviewed VA reports of each day care center. When I visited the school in person I was armed with my list of questions regarding activities and correction. All of my concerns were addressed by the schools director, Mrs. Marlene.She was able to competently and confidently answer all of my questions. Putting some of my worries at ease. My child has attended this school for the past 7 months and has flourished. Please notice I called it a school because The RISING STARS For Toddlers is not a daycare or playroom. They have outdoor classes, circle time discussions, music and so much more! The curriculum varies on your child's ability. The children have no clue they are learning and to them they are just enjoying toddler life. I receive weekly photos of my child's daily interactions, which I look forward to viewing with my little one. My son is recognizing letters, counting in Spanish, cleaning his area in the short time he has attended the school. As a mother, your concerned about who is caring for you child and how their treated. In most cases you gauge that from how your child behaves upon pick up. Your child will not be bored in her class. She meets your kids where they are, and she cares for all her students. With my child having been online through covid, they needed help with handwriting. Not only does she have great handwriting, she also learned cursive this year, too! Ms. Robertson teaches in fun ways, and the kids really retain the information! I also got to work with the 4th grade teacher, Ms. Smithson at Merit Girl Scouts, and she is an amazing teacher, too. She also goes out of her way for her students. She cares about all of them. I look forward to having her as a teacher next year. These two teachers are a great team and that is why I am reviewing The Merit School. The education has been great! She was talking on the phone, so I presume the door overwhelmed her because she displayed absolutely nothing but chaos. She asked me the age of my child, I told her. She gave me a note pad to fill out contact information. She told me that the school sends a bus there, they don't transport to that particular school... which is fine. After that she excused herself and went to the restroom. When she returned she told me they only have 46 slots with 52 kids already... I guess they don't go by ratio. I looked at her and smiled, that's what I do when I'm annoyed but want to be kind. I asked why I didn't receive a call because I took off work for the tour. Again in an overwhelmed state she says "I am the only one here today, the online scheduler just sends things in, I've been very busy today." As though her busy was superior to my time and responsibilities. After all, that's the job. I calmly told her, still smiling, I also work and am very busy, in addition to having a disabled child getting ready for brain surgery and touring schools... but I still can manage to RSVP regret. She ask, "if you'd like I can give you a tour and when"... I told her no, no thanks. As I was walking out I summed it up to a blessing for seeing what it would have been like there. The first impression did not display positive control. They must be one of the more affordable daycares around because I was not interested after that.

I got in at 7am and informed the staff there I was going to eat my breakfast before prepping for my evaluationat 9am. After I ate, a teacher came in and told me "be mindful of my outfit". (Picture of my outfit in comments). Then she left. Then a second teacher comes in and tells me one of my straps tore and ask for a safety pin. So I did. Nobody had one so I went to Vanessa Peak and asked for a safety pin. She asks me if I had a change of clothes and I told her no. She asked me to go home and change. So I asked why. I wear this jumpsuit+shirt combo every week. What is the issue besides the strap complication I'm tryna fix.? She never answered what was wrong with my outfit, just told me I should dress more appropriately for work... I am covered, and in an outfit the kids LOVE. (By this point another teacher comes up to defuse) Vanessa starts yelling at her and asking if she talked to me. Yes she did but what was wrong with my outfit? Still no answer. I was told to go in the office I was told to go in my classroom. When I tried to move into my classroom, Vanessa threw her arms out almost hitting me telling me "No, don't go in there. You need to leave and don't come back." At this point I ask her to watch her tone and I yell for my child to come with me. Once again Vanessa is aggressively telling me leave and don't come back so I retaliate with "Bitch fuck you" and I leave. All this because I told her I was unable to complete her training for her and she switches up on me for dealing with a personal issue over the weekend prior to this incident. I tried to work with them, gave them a two week notice, towards the end of the notice, Vanessa denied care. My kids were immediately unenrolled from their center and now they're trying to apply over $3,000 to my account. Charging three months to remove my kids despite a notice being provided and care being denied. Instead of assisting your upset child, they will have all the adults in the center stand and record your child upset and send it to you. Staff is not knowledgeable when it comes to caring for a child and because of that, they try to force you to get your child diagnosed with a developmental delay or disability regardless of medical documentation. Part of the decline in my trust in this facility is that Nicole threatened to discontinue care two-three weeks prior to me giving notice because she wanted me to get my child diagnosed. She was not happy when I came back with medical documentation to the contrary. Nicole tormented my son locking him in her office on several occasions. Nicole has personally attacked me for not giving her energy while being down right nasty and refusing to speak with her because of it. New "ownership" doesn't own the facility yet and attempt to look for ways to over charge you or take advantage of state funding and assistance. Several thousands of dollars that I paid to them were "lost." And magically discovered when I actually had the receipts. The vehicles that they use to transport your babies don't have insurance. Accidents with those vehicles happen and no reports of the accident or the vehicle not having insurance are given to the parents. You have to find out concerning safety information through other parents and public forums. Several occasions my child has come home with unexplained markings. The staff don't like working there and verbalize it constantly and consistently. Several original staff have left several parents have removed their children from their care. Bottom line, avoid this location at all costs. It's now ran and owned by the church next door. They're in dire financial straits and cannot find employees because of toxic culture which forces them to have people "work" there that are not good with children.

After 3 weeks of my son being harassed daily on the playground, leading to multiple meltdowns and severe anxiety, I called the teacher only to be met with hostility and gaslighting. After doing a little more research and calling around, I have found my experience is not in any way unique as I have heard of at least two other families that had to pull their children out for similar reasons, saying, "I don't know what it is with St Matthew's, but they just let the kids go at each other at recess. They'll be hitting each other with sticks and everything."

The middle school failed my child this school year. There's a notorious group of students that…read moresystematically bully new kids or someone outside their circle and the worst part, these students are favored among teachers. Multiple complains to the principal resulted in NOTHING! Only a check mark talk with the offenders and the vicious cycle goes on. It's a disgrace that teachers only promote their favorites to win competitions like Science fair. The middle school drastically lacked any fun or engaging events, fundraisers or activities that encouraged team work and inclusion of parents. There was only one field trip throughout the year and no promised end of year concert that even public schools have. The end of year award ceremony was unfairly selective. Throughout the year we got Zero photos from any teacher showing a school day, so it feels like this year just fell out equation with no memories to look back to. There's no graduation ceremony for 5th graders either, which they truly deserve. Since the new owner took over, the school environment (especially in upped grades) is rapidly deteriorating. And it's not surprising, the owner lives outside the country and rarely shows up. My gut feeling was right when I checked the school website before we enrolled and it was generic. And that's how this year felt, generic! A generic website with no teacher names, stock photos of students, there's nothing there that shows actual student life or curriculum or shows any photos of the teachers. This place is about squeezing every dollar they can from paying parents, while failing on delivering the fair support and equal opportunities every student deserves.

She complained about daily bullying, degrading or disrespectful comments from some kids in upper grades, because apparently, teachers combined 5th, 6th and 7th grades in the same classroom. School administration is not properly addressing the bullying issue either and I heard the new owner is missing in action, never present and it shows. We as parents were never invited to any classroom event, where we could engage with students, teachers and other parents. There's also no student counselor on site, which upper grades really need. This school needs to step up with its upper grades policies, so every student feels appreciated and having the support the need.
