The Red Team (Cora, Stephanie, Jill, and intern Jo) were collectively the most empathetic, understanding, beautiful, nonjudgemental team of humans, and I'll forever be grateful for them. My son's birth was the most spectacular and extraordinary experience in my life. After we attended Cora's Home Birth Night at 36 weeks my hubby and I decided on attempting a home birth. Cora is just so darn brilliant and trustworthy- we were floored by her medical knowledge and the statistics of how safe home births are in BC. Oh and that briefcase!!!! After Cora opened up her medical briefcase we were completely BLOWN away by the complexity of the gadgets and gizmos in it, and WHAT procedures could be done at home if complications arose for either Le Babe or La Mama. We were fortunate to be able to deliver our son via home birth/water birth, under their angelic guidance. It was spectacular! When Cora stepped through the door (while I was pushing my son out), the energy in the room shifted. It went from slightly frantic to a sense of calm, security, and safeness. Stephanie rolled up shortly after and brought her additional warmth and knowledge. Their amazing midwifery student Jo, caught our baby. I had some complications at the end with my placenta, and their breadth of knowledge on how to handle this was remarkable. I felt safe the entire time and my heart trusted them 110 percent. Oh my!!! And then there was their postpartum care. The midwives were a strong and much needed support force through the ups and downs of the hazy postpartum weeks. If the RED TEAM wasn't covered by MSP, I would pay for their services. I pray I will be graced with their extraordinary care once again for my next one. Gratitude and words cannot express my LOVE for the RED TEAM! They are making such an impact and difference in their community. Thank you.

Having Amanda's support before, during and after birth has made the whole experience smoother and…read moreso much more enjoyable. This was my second pregnancy and after having a c-section with my first which left me with PTSD, I felt a bit fearful. Amanda helped me create a birth plan and asked questions I had never thought of to help me put on paper what I wanted to happen during the labour and birth. Her thorough approach really helped me psychologically prepare for the process. When my labour began, she came to our home and supported me though contractions, made me food that I actually felt like eating and encouraged my husband to get some sleep before we had to head to the hospital. Having Amanda there made me feel calm and in control; her questions and suggestions helped me to get in tune with my body and choose what worked best for me during labour. She had a seemly endless supply of coping mechanisms to suggest! Amanda helped us determine when was the best time to head to the hospital and when we got there she encouraged us to ask questions of the hospital staff to ensure we were always in charge of our care. When we ended up opting for a repeat c-section, Amanda gave us the support we needed and validated our decision. She was able to come in to the operating room with us and helped us through the process - somehow she even found time to take the photos we wanted! After the birth, Amanda came to our home and cooked, cleaned and took care of our older daughter. A few times in the postpartum period, I called her in tears and she always made time to listen to me, validate my feelings and suggest how I could cope. Amanda feels like a part of our family. Our kids love her and my husband and I know we would be drowning in laundry without her help. Having Amanda's support made it possible for us to focus on our new baby and enjoy the first weeks to the fullest!

In fact my baby arrived before a second midwife was present. Despite this Amanda and the midwife remained very calm and I felt completely at ease. After the birth she helped to clean up, get us fed, and make us comfy. She had many tips to help me heal postpartum, including providing us with her placenta encapsulation services. I continued to ask her questions throughout the first weeks of my baby's life. As a mother of three she had some great insights, and in general was an excellent listener. Amanda helped my family and I to have a wonderful birth. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to others or call her again for myself.
