What a top quality historical tour! John Adams is an expert in the history of the Chinese in Victoria. He was informative, entertaining and incredibly knowledgeable! I went on 3 different tours with his company and they were all great! I especially appreciated the depth of historical knowledge, sensitivity to diverse perspectives and respectful sharing of our history both good and not-so-good. Highly recommended! It felt like an inviting lecture by an expert, not at all a canned presentation by a guide. Bonnie O read more

Fun tour of downtown Victoria!! Also, this company was fabulous to work with -- I had to change my tour date and they made it easy.

The Ghostly Walk tour with Brynne was just so much fun! How much truth there is in these tales, we really can't say! - yet Brynne is a consummate story-teller who made every tale come alive for us, sound effects and all! My wife wasn't excited about this, but she had a great time too, concluding that Brynne is a "great entertainer." Five stars, AND one of the best bargains in town! read more

I had just moved to Vancouver Island (Langford) and like anywhere I have lived in the past, I have in insatiable desire to learn all about my 'new home'. John & Chris opened my eyes to all of the rich history that the Victoria has endured. Their tours promoted me to expand my knowledge further and I immediately run to the library to absorb even more. Discover The Past is a fabulous way for residents and visitors alike to learn the history of this beautiful city. Also, headphones are provided on each walk so you never miss any details as you walk long with your knowledgeable guide. read more

I was worried this tour might be too scary for my daughter. When I arrived, I was pleased to find locals taking this tour for the seventh time! They assured me that their kids have always loved these ghost tours throughout their growing years. Always changing. So many stories. Locals and tourists seem to cherish this company. Oh, and our eight year old loved the story telling aspect... which really is what this tour was all about. Better than screen time I would like to think. Brynn, our tour guide, was lovely. A recommend, especially for your first night in town, and especially for youngsters. :) read more

Must do!!! Amazing story teller and the history is so interesting. The hour tour went fast, we did not want it to end. Highly recommend.

Brynn was a fabulous tour guide for our ghostly walk through Bastion Square this past weekend. Sometimes walking tour guides can sound a little rehearsed but not Brynn. She told us the stories with a level of engagement and excitement that showed she is truly interested and passionate about her subject, with a great sense of humour as well. She kept an eye on crowds and traffic and always made sure our little group was stationed somewhere where we could hear her well. We're locals but learned a ton of new information about our city. We will definitely return for another walk in the future! read more

We did the 9pm tour of Bastian Square. I think our tour guides name was Jill? She was amazing! So captivating and intriguing. I love a good scary story and if there's history behind it, along with being able to walk those areas to see it firsthand as it were? Already lined up and ready to go. When you add a fantastic and engaging tour guide that uses language like a brush on a chilly October evening as his canvas? Even better! Bestie and I took the Ghost Tour and were treated to an hour being regaled with tales of tragedy and even a rather heartwarming story of the entrepreneur that continued to visit his beloved business after death by Daniel, a warm and friendly man who very obviously loves his job. He did confirm to us afterward that he does love his job, but he really didn't have to, because it showed so brilliantly through the time we spent following him from location to location that night. The walk was very easy, for anyone worried about the length of the tour; there were plenty of stops where one could catch their breath, or even grab a seat to rest. The pace was casual and on top of the information we got on our tour, there was defintiely several laughs and an easy feeling of general comraderie all around. I can't wait to come back and take some more tours from Discover the Past; it is worth the nominal fee for spending an hour learning the history and seeing the city in a way you can't get from casual observation. Kudos to this great company for a wonderful time. read more
