Our guide Jack was particularly amazing but everyone we met at Alaska Backcountry Adventure Tours were experts in their field, extremely friendly and accommodating. The Brand new ATV's were so much fun to drive in the Alaska Countryside! The guides do a great job of stopping and sharing knowledge about everything you see along the way! Everything is Included! Not only do they include lunch, snacks and water for the entire journey, they also outfit you with all the necessary outerwear you might need. As a larger guy I was a little nervous as most places don't carry my sizes. Not only could they accommodate me easily they even had sizes up to 5x. If you are on the fence about this tour definitely pull the trigger. They will take great care of you and this tour will be the highlight of your trip!

First we have done ATV in Mexico and in Hawaii on some amazing backdrops. This by far was the best. The machines were perfect and so was the equipment. They had great gear that kept a lot of the mud, dust and water out. It can't be avoided completely but they do everything in their power. I was hesitant about having to wear a helmet but have to say it is a must. As you fly through the trails at catch an errant tree limb this takes it like a champ. We loved getting to the glacier and then getting the option to polar plunge in the glacier. They made it easy and encouraged it. The food and snacks exceeded our expectations and we had the perfect amounts of stops. We saw 3 moose and two of the three were a mother/baby pair. So cute for sure. We saw eagles fly over head too. This was just amazing and the staff made us feel a part of their family. The sand dunes were a blast in these machines. So many good things to say.

I can say I am VERY glad we did, it is well run-safety always an issue with helicopters and winds, white outs and such. Once in the air and feeling the winds move us around between tight snow capped cliffs; I felt some anxiety. Where we left from (headquarters) was chilly but no snow, where we landed in 18" of new snow from over night...hello. It was like a different world, kind of in a basin with snow capped mountains all around..beautiful! The dogs are leashed to their dog houses and were very excited we had come to allow them to run! Our driver was Dallas Seadey the winner of this years Iditarod as well as 5 other times! How cool is that? He granddad was in the first race ever so it's in his blood. Dallas was so friendly, down to earth and a treasure of information. He and the dogs are in sync. It was cold, believe me, but I wouldn't have missed this for anything!

I will admit to some trepidation as I am not in the best of shape (think too "round" and too used to sitting), but it worked out great! A perfect mixture of the fun of driving ATVs in the wilderness with stops to explore nature and learn the natural history of this special place. Started with Oliver picking is up at the hotel in Anchorage. In a brand new and spacious van. He is prompt, smart, and very engaging. A delightful conversationalist for the 40 min drive to the launch point. We were then provided excellent, new, or seemingly new equipment (gloves, gators, helmets, and ATVs) and then given a safety briefing, and operations review of the equipment. And we were off... A wonderful morning of trails through woods, through stream beds, up to glacial lakes. We saw bald eagles, 1 moose, some sheep, and felt like we were in a truly special place. The guides were careful to make sure we had a fabulous (and safe) time. On the way back, we came to the aid of a stranded Alaskan who had lost a belt on their ATV, and we brought him back out. It's difficult to imagine a better morning introduction to Alaska. Would recommend it to anyone...no, no everyone!

Long story short, they wasted a lot of my time for nothing. This is a family business, just the husband and wife to my knowledge, which makes the other review interesting, as it sounds like they were trying to confuse the customer by making it seem like several employees were involved. I tried doing business with them because I wanted to help their family, who had been through some tough times (Israel is the son of 'Papa Pilgrim'-a severely abusive father, and also lost both legs in a car accident). I wish them well, but just as the reviewer who rented the wheelers, would not recommend this business based on my experience.

I rented three 4wheers on 5/4/19 which cost me $170.00 for each for 24 hrs. I also rented one trailer at i believe $55.00. I had to put a $1000.00 down as a security deposit which seemed high, but I had no issues there. I went out to Sutton to camp and ride, once there one of the 4wheelers had a malfunction, and I had to wait a couple of hours for the owner to drop off a new one, which was nice since it was his son's birthday. They did give me a later time to return them due to us having to wait which was nice ( but then again, it was the right thing to do). Well, the ride was great, and the 4wheelers were fine. I dropped the 4wheelers off and expected to get my full return except $45.00 for the cleaning charge. Well, I had to wait until 5/6/19 to call and see what I was getting back, and to my dismay, I was told two 4wheelers flipped. Which is 100% wrong. Only one 4wheelers TIPPED in a large puddle for maybe 3 to 5 minutes, which he tried to say it seemed like it was in the water for a very long time. Everything worked fine, and we stopped riding due to being cold after landing in water. I was confused to why the owner was saying two flipped when that wasn't the case, out of a $1000.00 security deposit they only gave me $150.00. I was told Monday afternoon, there were NO body damages to the 4wheelers but today Tuesday, there was. I was told twice they would not take the money out of my security deposit until we went over everything, which they didn't do. I the owner admitted he took the green wheeler out with his family, and one of his family members rode it all day, and he knows it wasn't flipped (this is the one I am stated never tipped). I asked him if he had documentation stating he had a mechanic look at the 4wheeler before he dropped it off to me. He said, he did. (funny since they don't have a machinic work on the weekends). The owner stated he did the inspection himself. I asked if he is a certified machinic which he said, " Yes." Interesting his family member used it go to the glacier, and now I am being charged for water damage and a bent handler bar. (I know for a fact, you have to go through a lot of water HIGH water to get to the glacier). I asked him, " Can I have a mechanic come out and look at the damages?" The owner became irritated and said, " I'm not going to have someone come in my shop." I then stated, " I want in writing you had used the green 4wheeler before you brought it to me. I also want the before and after pictures of the wheeler before he took it out. As well as the before and after reports." The owner didn't like that too much and said at first he wasn't going to do that but changed his mind. I'll, see if I get the email with all the information requested. I explained to the owner, "I have no problem paying for the one wheeler that TIPPED over, but I know for a fact that no other 4wheelers tipped or flipped. He told me the left side of the green 4wheeler left handlebar was bent. The only one that tipped was a camo one, and it was on the right side. (which is odd because you would think that is the one that would have a bent bar.) I feel I am being charged for something that happened on his trip and not ours. I am so shocked because this company seemed terrific, they came out to bring another 4wheeler, they had someone come in on a Saturday since it isn't the season to be open on the weekends, and they were friendly. I told so many people about this company, I hope those other people do not go to them. To top that off, I was the one that had to call numerous times about my deposit, told they would call me back ( which they didn't). When I called today, I was told the owner would call me when he got it because they were not done yet. I just spoke to one at around 12:30, and he told me, his assistant didn't want to deal with it. Funny seeing she was the one who called me first, which I asked to speak with Isreal, the owner. This situation is wrong on so many levels. We went through puddles, but we did not do crazy jumps or rally the hell out of his machines. Yet he is saying the oil was dripping out of one wheeler and two air filters needed to be changed, and they needed to replace some unit that will take two hours to fix for a tip over that wasn't a hard flip. I was told he ordered the parts before even talking to me, which he told me himself he wouldn't do until we spoke. DO NOT GO TO THEM!!!!

During our visit to the Talkeetna area there were wildfires burning, we were unable to make it to the meeting area but Fred and his helper Rich came to the hotel and picked us up so we wouldn't miss out on the fun. He first took us to a secluded spot by a river where the salmon were literally swimming between our feet. We could have reached down and scooped them up, but we were there to learn how to fly fish, so learn we did! Fred was extremely patient with me and my husband....and our limited fishing abilities! He came supplied with everything you could need or want during the tour. The waders fit perfectly, and kept us warm in the glacier water. While driving to our second fishing spot he supplied yummy croissant sandwiches to snack on during the ride. The second fishing spot had just as many salmon and we were able to catch quite a few fish. I had a beautiful trout on my line but unfortunately I didn't snag him and he got off the hook. I was bummed, but Fred is so encouraging before I knew it I had a huge salmon on the line and brought it in successfully. While we enjoyed fishing Rich cooked up some salmon by the shore along with vodka tonic and rum and cokes. We took a break to enjoy a perfect meal of deliciously cooked salmon and a nice cocktail. It was seriously a perfect day, despite the wildfires in area. I just hope that Rich and Fred's property were not impacted. If I am ever back in the area, this would be the first tour I book. It was a great experience and a super fun day!! Thank you Fred and Rich for making this the highlight of our trip!
