I was offered via email a 70% of past balance to restore at no charge right when I was negotiating cancellation as a 14 year customer, 3 states, installation on four residences (dish/hardware) I immediately called in to take advantage and work things out with Direct TV to continue our long term relationship, paid the amount of balance due to bring balance to 0 per the promotional terms, have an emailed receipt (the email immediately following the deal email in my inbox) Happy call, service will be restored, differences settled right? WRONG. They never implemented deal, wouldn't refund my payment to get deal which was substantial income for my family, indicated cancellation status being negotiated DQed me from deal despite being emailed the deal AFTER negotiating cancellation, AFTER rep on phone still offered and indicated he implemented deal when he took my payment (same day). Determined, Collections Dept. is same Dept that promoted and emailed the deal who took deal away so after four hours on 8 different I8Something numbers I was actually insulted by their collections supervisor referenced above telling me we got you, you should pay your bills!!! I plan to take that call I recorded and the fradulent bait email to the KS Attorney General to look into Direct TV tactics as illegal by violating an in writing (email) and verbal (rep I paid to implement email deal) agreement, and turning it into a vicious, and dishonest "promotion" to simply collect 30-50% balances before cancelation offering false hope of reconciliation of a 14 year, 3 state, install AT+T and DIRECT TV equipment onto homes to be "move in ready" for future customers and told him to screw off and pay my bills. Direct TV is a terrible company. They almost doubled my bill in 1 month. When I called in to try and get them to lower the bill. Nope they wouldn't. So I switched to another carrier. Called them next day and to cancel and They ballistic and got mad that after 17 years I was leaving. They demanded I return their equipment to UPS store within a week. Now they want me to pay the entire Months bill when I only used 4 days of the higher billed month. They are a terrible company to to use for TV service. Had poor service with DirectTV so we went with Spectrum and their policy is a buyout of former cancellation fees but they require a "invoice". Well after fighting with DirectTV they finally emailed us a "statement" with their $350 cancellation charges and Spectrum did not accept this document. Fair Warning to you all.... read more

I've had DirecTV since I moved to my house in Dec of '99. I've rarely had outages even in this HUGE snownami we had the past week I just had to go brush the snow off my dish (hey, so I have a 1950s house) it's within reach with a broom :) I get regular discounts for being a loyal customer & they always send me FREE movie coupons. I only use them for tv service. Bundling with two providers isn't available because I'm already a customer with both the phone company & DirecTV. I've heard nothing but nightmares from people that have switched their phone service to one of those cable providers. You know that saying "Why fix something that isn't broken". We cancelled our direct tv services in two locations, Florida and Kansas. They billed us for an additional month for both locations. Tried to resolve the issue over the phone and was sent to an off shore service center that was incompetent and had no authority to resolve our issues. Spent hours on the phone. Actually this rating should be a -10. If I didn't like Direct TV before they did an upgrade and now I can't read all of the screen. They have lowered the contrast on writing they don't think you are reading which makes it difficult to read the print. I didn't like Direct before because their claim that it is internet based is a lie. You can only manage your DVR while in your home network. Hey Direct that is called intranet not internet. If it was truly internet based I could manage my DVR with my phone, computer or tablet from anywhere. Not sure who developed and tested this new "upgrade" but they have made my decision to dump cable much easier. I look forward to leaving cable in the very near future. I had a terrible experience with this company today. Set up new service a week and a half ago, couldn't install until today. The representative who I set up with the account with miss quoted the price and didn't even set up the bundle for our Internet to go with it. I didn't find any of this out until the tech came to set it all up today. I was on the phone for 2 hours trying to sort this out, all the representatives I spoke to told me the same thing, there was nothing they could do. We won't have Internet now for more 2 weeks. They supervisors and representatives that I spoke to did nothing to make it better, offered me nothing but I'm sorry I can't do anything for you. It's been an awful experience. In short I called AT&T to try and change my mobile and internet plan. The associate did not listen to my goals but was very intent on selling me directv. I wanted to pay off the installments on my wife's cell to again reduce monthly payment. Even though I paid a large payment I found out later it was only to be eligible for upgrade and no monthly reduction. I have come to realize on follow up calls that if you are talking to someone from outside the US you should probably request to be transferred. I took the bait and we got a basic directv package. It was so complicated to use. It was mostly home shopping networks. If we landed on a 3D channel it would lock up. We got no guides only the remotes. We called and cancelled and found out about the early cancellation fee. It was never discussed but they email the agreement to you when you sign up in an attachment that I'm sure most of us do not read. You do not have to accept anything, it is just there and you cannot get out of it. I tried to get a bill from them and called 5 times with this request. I would get an email from them to logon to my account but I couldn't because it was deactivated. Finally on my 5th call they discovered I did not get a bill because I was on paperless billing. In the process they turned me over to collections. It has been so frustrating that we are making it a goal to leave AT&T even though we have been long term customers. I ordered the the direct tv package that came with the nfl package and 3 months premium channels with a $150 visa gift card and a "supposed locked in rate for 2 yrs" Well come to find out there is no record of my gift card and the rate is NOT locked in after the first year it goes up almost $30 . None of this was explained at all it was all smoke and mirrors and when i called about the gift card not being sent out when i called to cancel the 3 months premium channels i was told that the card was coming just give it a little more time . So i called again and there is no record of the gift card being promised nor is there a record of the conversation I had regarding the card the first time . I asked the supervisor to look at the date i ordered and see that that promotion was going on at the time and he told me there is nothing he could do. I told him to check the call recording of the conversations sense all the calls are recorded and he would find i am speaking the truth and he says unfortunately there is nothing he can do. What a rip off they do not honor their own promotions. So ticked off right now , I under stand that people try to scam to get things but this is a legit complaint and even giving them everything they need to check into the situation they refused to use what could validate my claim . This has been the worst experience I have ever had with a company. AT&T failed multiple times in keeping me satisfied as a loyal customer. For the past year, I had issues with my account several times where things were added to my account without my consent. They added an additional year to my contract, added channels, removed discounts, etc. with me not knowing until I contacted them. They did not want to resolve the issues and refused my requests to speak with managers. Now that I would like to term my services, they're wanting to charge me a double cancelation fee. I'm only giving them one star bc I have to! Directv seems to add things on your account without your permission. I received an email a week ago saying that the sports channels have been added to my account and that if I didn't want it I would need to call so I did. Few days later I received my bill and looked at the details of my charges which I rarely do and found that they were charging me for 4 tvs when I only have 3! So I called which was June 15th and after an hour they apologized and said they would credit my account for all the months they have been charging me for it. So today I get an email saying that my order has been confirmed and that I will get a $20 credit for the next 24 months so I called bc I never once agreed to signing on with directv for another 24 months. Spoke to customer service about wanting this off my account and never once agreed to this promotion and definitely didn't want to be under another contract with them! She spoke to her supervisor named Shaun about getting this off my account and I was told there was nothing they could do bc the promotion has already started. Apparently when I called June 15th about them charging me for something they shouldn't had they apparently got my approval for this promotion which is a lie! So your telling me that this promotion can not be removed from my account 5 days after there was an apparent verbal agreement? They noticed my contract was up and decided upon themselves to add me to this promotion to trap me for another 24 months. I'm still waiting for the supervisor to call me back which I already know he won't but that's fine bc I went ahead and filed a complaint with BBB! read more

Wow... got randomly charged $240 without my permission and was told I still owe another $160?!?! I had my account canceled in May and now it's almost September and have tried multiple times to send my cable boxes back but have yet to receive a package box 6 PHONE CALLS AND 4 MONTHS LATER! After I said I wanted to resolve these issues before I paid any remaining balance or fees they withdrew $240 out of my account while I was at work after I specifically said NO! Terrible customer service, no communication in the company at all and overall a joke of a cable provider! Do not trust the sales people. A bunch of liars. We went in to switch our phones over to AT&T and they sold us on their direcTV promotion they had going on at the time. It stated the deal was only good for a year and the sales person said he would personally extend it for us. All we had to do was bring in the bill when it increased. Guess what did not happen. The customer service is a joke. I called multiple times to resolve the problem and was shuffled back and forth from the cell service side to the directv side. I spent hours on the phone and went into the store twice. With no help and nothing to show for it. Even after being lied to and all the trouble I went through they still charged us $220.00 cancelation fee. For terminating our service early. Since AT&T has taken Direct TV over it had sucked. Leroy @ Direct gave me a great deal and was very nice. The only thing I had to do was stay for a year, which was no problem. He sent me a letter stating that. The bill was at the great price for 1 month and had gone up since. When I talked to Direct it was because of rate increase in January. Nothing was said to me about nor is anything said about it in letter I received. It is not a great amount of money but I am retired and on limited budget. Once they sign you up they will take advantage of you for every penny they can. Unlike other providers they will charge you if you want to add a box and charge you a lease fee on the box at the same time. If you move they will charge you 200 while other providers, taking every chance they can to get into your pockets because they know you don't want to break your contract. Also the worst customer service of any company I have ever dealt with, any one recommending this service probably has never had to pay for it. read more

After 4 years I called again to get a better monthly service and they were going to give me $10 a month off. when i could sign on new and save over $60 a month. i went with another provider - cancelled the service and have a cancellation fee after talking with Patrick and his supervisor Miranda - they said that i needed to be "educated" oh excuse me I have a college education with a year of my masters and they are going to educate me. they were absolutely NO help and the cancellation fee is still there. We recently decided to make the switch to Direct TV. After a horrific installation experience, we cancelled our account, and I am so glad! We will NEVER be Direct TV customers, and we won't be recommending their services to anyone. At our initial installation appointment, the technician let us know that when she drove up she realized we would have to have an additional approval set up for installing the dish (we live in a town home). She called and had it set up, and then she set a new installation date. When the new date rolled around, we came home to find the dish had been installed IN OUR NEIGHBOR'S front yard. It was right by the front door. My neighbor was livid. We called the technician, who told us it was the only location available. We told her she would need to remove the dish. The next day, she returned and removed the dish, leaving an exposed wire and pole sticking out of the ground. I called Direct TV and was referred to the damage department in Colorado, who emailed me back a lengthy email requesting a million details Along with an estimate to remove the cords before they would acknowledge the claim. Tonight, I called again, only to be told that the wires were my problem. I spoke to a supervisor (Calvin), and he was extremely rude telling me to call a satellite company to look at it.
