If you do not have an HR person, they can come out to help with anything you might need - recruitment, employee handbook, staff training, you name it. If you do have an HR person, they are still a wonderful organization to belong to because they can assist with any of the more tricky issues (legal woes, FLMA, worker's comp, discrimination, etc.), and provide ongoing training and support. My boss used them before he hired me to help him handle many of the HR functions of our organization, and once I came on board they helped us to develop our HR department and continue to provide aid whenever we need it. They have an "HR Hotline" when you have a question about employment law or other odd issues. They offer a yearly HR conference and a yearly Employment Law conference right here in the burbs, and both are fantastic. Also, check out their Training list for seminars held all throughout the year on numerous HR topics. This place is such a great asset for any organization!

If you are a job seeker, I do not recommend working with staffing agencies for a few reasons. Let's get into a few problems with this one in particular. Most of these reasons are applicable to the other agencies out there. First, this staffing agency asks for sensitive information before you are certain you have a job. When I came for the interview, they asked for my social security card and bank account number. This made me very uncomfortable, considering I was not assured a position. A few days after meeting with the recruiter, I followed up about the job I interviewed for. He said the job was "on hold" but the company really liked my resume. Sure... Shortly after that, he said the job had been filled by an internal candidate. Ultimately, that seems to be how it goes at most companies. A series of interviews are conducted with external candidates. In the meantime, an internal candidate has been selected. In a way, I can't fault this staffing agency for that. The recruiter seemed transparent, but all he really wanted was to enter me into the big database of job candidates. I worked with this agency months ago and have not been contacted with any further job leads.

From the moment I arrived there, the setup was strange where there's a conjoined round table consisting of all Caucasian women. I came in for my interview on time, but I had to wait until they finished their group discussions about other people that they have interviewed which could have been discussed when I wasn't there. During the hour-long interview, I can't help but notice that this agency is "religion-based" (Evangelical Christian). I am a practicing Catholic, but I felt that we should be focusing more on my skills, professional/educational backgrounds, and potentials. It was so cringy as I felt like I was getting recruited to be a part of a ministry or cult. Also, I felt so uncomfortable getting interviewed while there are several conversations going on in the background. I tried to follow up with two of their associates and I never heard back from them which is a blessing in disguise as I would have not been a good fit and I personally wouldn't be happy in the long run. In all honesty this is not a reputable agency, and the Department of Labor should probably look into their practice. For someone who has a background in Human Resources, in my opinion, an agency should practice fairness and equity and Theophany Staffing missed the mark.

Clue: Read the filtered reviews here to see what I'm referring to. Note: Multiple postings on the same dates. No cons, it's the best company ever in the world...according to the HR spammers. The "reviewers" mostly have only 1 review to their history, maybe 2. Do a "Tin Eye" reverse image search on the picture of the filtered review of "Sandy M" of Lombard. This is a public photo of a council woman in Everette Washington! And her name is NOT Sandy M. And she has no link to Lombard, IL, or anywhere near Illinois, for that matter. I assure you. The other woman, "Christi B." that photo shows whoever wrote this review stole this from a picture of a real estate agent North Carolina! So not only are they writing phony reviews, they are stealing public photos of people and using them for their fake personas! If a company sounds too good to be true, it is. Would a company with any genuine integrity stoop these kind of dishonest methods? I don't think so. A company with integrity would rely on genuine feedback, and work to improve where it saw weaknesses. Not write dozens of glowing reports under multiple screen names that are completely fake. It's almost laughable. Oh yes, about 9 months later, I was contacted again by this company, when they were desperate for bodies for a "new exciting opportunity" opening up in my area. Yeah. No thanks.
