In May 2021 I made the huge mistake of taking on Iain Martin and Revere Scotland Contracts Ltd…read more(SC627808) to work on my home and in December that year I had to terminate his contract. Since then, I've found out he had already gone insolvent in June 2020 and had been expelled from the Federation of Master Builders (FMB). I would strongly recommend anyone thinking of using Iain Martin to look at a Facebook page called 'Edinburgh C0wboy Builders' and search for him and his business - it's a long list of victims. My project was to knock two rooms into one and add patio doors, along with some other internal works. My problems started when Iain Martin invoiced me for materials such as steelwork, patio doors, doors, windows, heating and electrical supplies. Nothing unusual and all within the quote, so I paid. But as the work stalled and deadlines were missed, he blamed the suppliers or Covid and found any excuse to divert attention. It all sounded so feasible. My suspicions grew, so I called some of his suppliers and found that orders had never been placed or suppliers were not doing business with Iain Martin because they hadn't been paid for earlier work. Iain and his 'Account Manager' do not have the slightest grasp of decent project management, effective (or polite) communication, client service or managing peoples money honestly I cannot emphasis enough that he should be avoided and I would recommend everyone reads the various links online. As I hear from other victims, it is clear this is not an isolated case and is a very common way he operates. Despite long negotiations and discussions over the past year, including Court Action, he has not repaid what is owed and I remain significantly out of pocket - as do many of his other victims.

The windows they fitted were lovely, and I didn't have any problems with draughts and such like. Nice job!

This is an awful company which l actively caution people to avoid. They take no pride in their…read morework, which is reflected in the poor attention to detail and finish, sloppy work ethic and egregious service. They have no respect for their customers and don't deserve your service. We have taken weeks off work to have Viewforth come round and make the same mistakes over and over again, we've had windows repainted three times after Viewforth have been called back to fix (and repeat) mistakes. We've had to explicitly ask for them to stop sending the same junior installers round to repeat mistakes, installers who sit in their vans all day playing on their phones and then taking a day to fix a one hour problem, at the customer's expense - this is how they respond to a complaint. Where a reputable joiner would use a chisel and a workbench these guys will hack at your frames using a Stanley knife, and then fit the parts squint. We've had ropes detach, having been poorly fitted, brass parts fitted squint (and then moved and fitted squint again!), or brass parts left scratched and buckled. It took almost a year for them to fix one problem (mastic), blaming everything from birds to bees for the simple fact that they didn't do the job properly in the first place. This review is based on my experience over a year, so this wasn't simply a single bad experience that I'm having a moan about but rather a sustained marathon of incompetence and apathy. You can do better than this.
