It was an after wedding Brunch for people that had to fly back home thatday.. Menu agreed upon by Sabrina and myself. The contract said it would start at 11:00 and end at 3:30. Sabrina said she and her crew would be there at 6:00 AM to prep all the foods being served BUFFET style which we agreed upon. Well, Sabrina's​ help showed up at 6:00 m but no Sabrina , No Food and no Phone call. Panic​ set in . I figured I better get in touch with a local restaurant fast. The Door Bell rang at 10:15. Low and behold Sabrina and the food showed. She said her sous chef didn't​ show. She proceeded to bring in all her food supplies along with the arriving guests. Well, food was not served by buffet style at all. She passed around fruit with toothpicks​?? at 1:00 1:30 she passed the bagels, cream cheese and Lox. Not Buffet style. 2:30 cups of Lobster bisque were handed out to the guests. By 3:00 people had to leave for their flights 10 guests left. Hungry no doubt.​ By 3:30 she passed out plated salads with her choice of dressing on it. It was supposed​ to be buffet salad with choice of two dressing according​ to contract. Now at 3:30 she served the guests plated, not buffet style as contracted, grilled shrimp with Chicken with Mango salsa. Each guest was served separately​ . Therefore 8 people ate while the other 8 waited for their meal to be cooked and served. No one ate together.​ It was a nightmare and an ​embarrassment. Gig Salad denied any responsibility for their recommendation. They said they suggested this caterer and it was up to me to check out her reviews??? I thought that's​ what I hired Gig Salad for. To recommend people that they screened and suggested. Nope,​ It doesn't​ work like that. They throw out names,​ you choose and do your own research. Well four days after the nightmare affair I get a second corrected Contract by Sabrina stating the affair was to start at 3:00 to 7:00 to cover her self for the screwup​. I said I would not sign it because I already signed the original true contract for 11:00 to 3:30 and I was not born yesterday. If that were the case...What were her people doing at my house at 6:00 Am empty handed asking me where Sabrina was.

I was fortunate enough to have Chef Daniel cook a "surprise" birthday Dinner for my girlfriend this past week. He is one of the most passionate, caring and kind people that I have met. He cooked an amazing 4 course meal which consisted of Duck, Chicken, Steak and an amazing Creme brûlée. He is very creative with his dishes and was very careful since I do have a severe shellfish allergy! I highly recommend everyone to give Chef Daniel a try. When searching for a local catering business in San Diego, I was hoping to find someone who could deliver memorably excellent food with minimal stress to the hosts. For my housewarming party last year, I engaged Schatzi's to deliver food for about forty people. They are equipped to cater less formal events as well as full-blown capital-E events; for an informal housewarming, I went with one of the theme menus they've got posted on their Web site. Shortly after sending them an E-mail, they responded back with all of the details, generously offering to custom tailor the menu to my guests. The food was delivered right on time, piping hot, and oh my God was it delicious. The roasted pork stuffed with plums was amazing and their homemade spätzle was to die for. Even better, they were able to rent us a couple of chafing dishes at reasonable prices so that we could serve the food ourselves using our own plates - it was fantastic to be able to keep costs down by pitching in using our own silverware, for example. More recently, I got married. Based on my excellent experience with Schatzi's, I immediately called them as soon as I had a date fixed. This time, however, it was going to me a much bigger event - a hundred guests, still at my house, but this time I would obviously be way too busy with, you know, actually getting married to worry about the details of food service. Again, Wolfgang, Lothar, and their staff were amazingly helpful: we had a short meeting to go over the food to be served, the general schedule, and what exactly I needed from them in order to pull it all off. They also coordinated with a local party rental company to deliver everything we needed for the wedding reception at our house: glassware, silverware, plates, napkins, you name it. Exactly as arranged, Wolfgang and his staff showed up at our house right on time to get everything set up. All I had to do was point at where everything was to be set up and they did it all, which was extraordinarily relaxing (in the sense that my wedding day stress just disappeared when they began setting it all up). After I went to change into my tuxedo, my house and back yard had been transformed into an actual event: the tables looked great, the presentation of sparkling wine and beverages was awesome, and the serving staff was super friendly and looked professional like you wouldn't believe. That was two weeks ago, and our wedding guests are still going on about how incredibly delicious the food was; we served Central European favorites like veal in a white wine sauce with mushrooms, Hungarian style goulash, spätzle, and grilled asparagus. All of the food was served piping hot, portion sizes were very good indeed, and (most importantly) every guest was delighted. Finally, as the host, I could not have been happier with everything: I was able to trust Schatzi's entirely and leave them to their work so that I could concentrate on the party. As we approved the scheduled end of the day, their staff cleaned everything up, disappeared all of the trash (I still have no idea how), stacked the party rental equipment, had the delivery folks pick it all up, and that was that. I was left with a clean house, happy guests, and an overwhelming sense of calm and satisfaction. If you're catering an event anywhere near North Park, you owe it to yourselves to check these guys out. They are amazing.

I had stopped by their booth and entered a drawing at the Bridal Bazaar and my name had been selected. Shad then let me know that he also owned a catering company called Pacific Grill Catering and wanted the opportunity to meet with us since we didn't have a caterer yet. My husband and I had already met with three caterers and were ready to make our decision and put food tasting behind us, but I let him know that we would be willing to meet with him if he could fit us in within a week. My MOH was getting married exactly two months before me and I recommended they get in touch as well. We made an appointment for the following Saturday and the food was good and better yet the price was right. I'm not gonna lie, we got a killer deal. Shad was pleasant enough, but obviously a Sales person. He kept talking about how successful he is, and everything he owned. My husband and I never make a decision without sleeping on it so we told him we would let him know the following day, either way. He said okay, but I could tell he likes to close his deals same day. None of the other caterers could compete with the price, and since the food was good and Shad said they would be willing to help pour champagne and cut cake at no extra charge, we decided to go with them. My MOH decided to go with them as well. First, my MOH's wedding came and the food was good. I was her MOH and I helped a little with coordination. One of the first things I noticed was that the photo booth they ordered wasn't there (apparently it was broken and they still have not gotten their money back!). Next, one of the girls tray passing Hors d'oeuvres was in jeans, a plaid shirt and tennis shoes. When I asked them to help pour champagne they seemed surprised, but they did help. Finally, the wedding was over and we were getting ready to leave when Shad informed us that we needed to box up all of the glassware, linens, etc. to return to them because my friend didn't pay for set up or break down. The handful of people left (including the bride and groom) spent an hour after the reception cleaning up. I was a little put off thinking that that could be the case as my wedding so I tackled it head on by emailing Shad what I had noticed and telling him I didn't want the same experience at my wedding. I didn't receive a response, I forwarded the email to another email address I had for him and explained that I'm sorry if the email is harsh, but that I wanted to address the issue with him. He called me. He said if I wanted set up and clean up I would have to pay for it because it isn't included in my contract. I explained that he gave me the impression they set up the linens, plate ware, glassware, etc. since we had talked about how I wanted the linens folded when we met. Why would we talk about the way the linens would be folded if they weren't going to set them up for me??? Anyway, I was upset because I felt like he had given me a level of expectation and now he expected me to pay extra for it. He told me that I just didn't want to pay for the extra work. Not the case. I explained that it wasn't about the money, it was about giving an expectation that you don't intend to live up to. He was upset to and was cussing while on the phone with me. At one point he told me he would give me back my deposit and I could go find another caterer. Why would you tell that to a bride 7 weeks before her wedding? I told him that I would pay them and to send over the new contract. My wedding day came and went without a hitch. The food was good and the servers were all dressed appropriately. They set up and broke down per our contract. However, despite that fact that the actual wedding day went well I would not recommend Pacific Grill Catering to anyone due to the fact that Shad Kirvin owns part of it. The way he treated me was not worth the savings we received. Had Shad addressed the problem from a customer service point of view I would have been find with paying more for extra service of setup and breakdown. Instead he cussed and caused more stress during the already stressful wedding planning process. If you decide wo going with them, make sure you get everything written into the contract.
