My friend had been trying to get me to play pickleball with him for months. I decided to bite the bullet and go out with him to play a few rounds. We went to DinkSF and I had an amazing experience. I'm glad my first time was with this venue and now I'm on Amazon looking at pickleball equipment to purchase. I would probably be in better shape if I didn't ignore my friend's requests to play with him for so many months. The staff is incredibly friendly and the courts are well-maintained. Highly recommended!

Upper level court. 1 of 2 courts. All court surfaces are made of plastic tiles.

Friendly staff and very cool building! I decided not to play due to the court surface is plastic tiles. The tile are made from basketball and pickleball but the bounce isn't true for pickleball. In my experience the ball doesn't bounce correctly if it lands were the tiles connect sometimes. At the time of this post the lighting was poor. (I brighten the photos to show more details) I was told more lights will be added in the future. Could be suitable for beginners to learn the game but I don't recommend it for advance beginners or advance players.

John, Paul, Mary, and Lilly are great. This is a great local for Pickleball. The updated space looks great!

Staff is always friendly and helpful. I only play pickleball here so can't speak to the tennis side of things, but the pickleball experience is top notch. Shout-out to Joel if you're taking lessons. Patient, clear, actually makes you better. Try to get him if you can. If you are a complete newbie, a clinic or group class is helpful. Beyond that, I think they are a bit overpriced for what you get. Instructors are good but with that many people on a court, you don't get individual attention. They recently started offering smaller-group lessons which seems like a better format. Now the asterisk. Reservations are basically impossible. Booking opens at 12:30pm and courts are gone in, not an exaggeration, one second. Again, I'm not exaggerating. And even if you click at exactly 12:30:00, you still might not get one. I've also heard the owners aren't fans of pickleball and aren't planning to add more courts, which if true is a bummer because the demand is obviously there. Honestly the reservation thing is so bad I went back and forth on whether this should be four stars. But the place itself is so great, maybe it's just a victim of its own success. If you CAN get a reservation, it's unbeatable.

Since the courts are public, I'd be willing to contract and pay for time/security/etc. for approximately 10-days for qualifying rounds. The contact stated that they do *not* rent space for private tournaments. Weird, but fair enough. Then it was brought to my attention by several other people that the Kunal Patel ("KPSF Open") happens at this very site. I don't understand people using public spaces as their personal clubhouse where they pick-and-choose their policies. It's weird energy and after reading other reviews, it sounds like inconsistency is a pattern here.

Amazing staff--very kind and helpful, they're personable and help me when I need a specific court or want to book something or need my rackets restrung. They know my name and are very thoughtful--always with a smile. Shoutout to club manager Jake Stafford and tennis racket stringer Gary Bender. I love them and the front desk staff and cleaning crew--everyone is very friendly, helpful, understanding, and accommodating. Multiple times, I have booked courts and had to cancel (or mixed up my court times) and they've helped remedy the situation. Facilities are very nice--I love the pool, hot tub, locker rooms, and courts. The lights are good for night playing and there's some nice seating by the pickleball courts. The views are so good--I love seeing high rises and the Bay and Salesforce Tower looming behind over the club. I love the app for booking courts (and also book classes at Bay Club SF which is further down along the Embarcadero.) Gateway also has a few classes (like a weekly yoga on the grass.) Location is very convenient near downtown and the financial district. It's served by multiple Muni lines and BART and Muni Metro, and there's street parking and a small lot too! My one nit--I miss when there was more workout equipment and more socials and classes! I wish more people went to drop-in pickleball.

Gorgeous and well-maintained facilities from locker rooms with sauna/hot tub to group exercise studio. Wonderful group fitness program with outdoor/indoor boot camp classes, mind and body classes and cardio dance. Brendan is just adorable--rainbow and sunshines--that's what I call a pop dance party. Yet, incredibly professional and really knows how to manage the room. What a gem. Iting is an amazing artist who encourages self expression while still delivering a cardio workout. Maricela is a fantastic instructor who specializes in salsa and has the best Latin music playlist in the city hands down--you can try to stop dancing but you'll fail! David Coelho's Ignite class is so hard, I need to hug my kids' stuffies after I'm done to self soothe :). I adore the guy! He's exactly what I love in a good coach. Manny's rooftop boot camp rocks. I don't know what's the best part: the music, the views or the intense workout. It just all works together so well. Staff are professional and members are a delight. And here's the best hack you should know about: if you're part of a group membership, you basically pay the same amount as you would pay for other gyms that, in my opinion, offer so much less in value. Definitely worth the drive to North Beach.

Unfortunately, the experience behind the scenes completely unraveled that goodwill. When I needed to cancel my membership due to a major life transition (leaving a well-paying job to return to school for nursing), I was met with zero flexibility, no real consideration of timing or loyalty, and a rigid, policy-first response that felt cold and dismissive. I was charged again after canceling, with confusing explanations and unresponsive communication. What should have been a straightforward, human interaction turned into weeks of frustration and escalation. The broader experience didn't help. The bathrooms are consistently grimy for a club at this price point, the vibe skews heavily toward entitled, out-of-touch "old money" members who are seemingly retired and love to spend their time complaining, and the business itself feels like it's run by an outdated boys' club that hasn't caught up to the reality that community and quality customer support actually matter now. Bay Club markets itself as community-focused, but when it mattered most, that value didn't show up for me. It's a shame--years of great swims were ultimately overshadowed by how poorly this was handled.
