I just would like to say that we visited your restaurant last night, Friday Oct 11. The service was good, and drinks ok the food is not so. I had prime rib, my son had I think rib eye and there was no flavor at all. I ordered mine medium rare and it was medium. For my son not to eat the entire steak you know something was wrong. My husband had the ribs he said they were ok and daughter in law the poor man's lobster. I was very disappointed as I wanted to take my son and daughter-in-law somewhere good as they we in from out of town. Not a good choice. read more

We hadn't been here in a while. This used to be a great place, but it is not what it used to be. They call it a Wisconsin Supper Club but far from it. I ordered a Brandy Old Fashion, well known as a Wisconsin drink. It was disgusting. Made from syrup, not made from scratch, not muddled. It was so sweet with no trace of alcohol. Chicken was overcooked and dry. The shrimp was good. My hashbrowns were cold when served, so I sent them back for hot. They microwaved them and returned a glob of mush back to our table. This is our last trip to Ding A Lings. It costs too much to eat out to receive this quality. read more

Full disclosure: We planned on going to Halgeson's, but it was closed, so we just kept trucking along to Ding-A-Ling. Since we didn't call ahead, we weren't sure what the wait would be. When we walked in, it was a little confusing as to where to check in. The host area is actually on the far back end of the bar, so just flag someone down. We only had to wait 15 minutes, which was shocking for 6 pm on a Saturday. The bartender was so friendly and made some great old fashions! The prices were extremely reasonable, which led my husband to snag the all you can eat prime rib meal (only first day of each month), AND a side of scallops (because scallops are his favorite). I got the 10 ounce filet, and our cousin got the chicken fajitas. The waitress was extremely friendly! You get a choice of soup or salad with your meal, as well as a potato. They give you a basket of crackers and buns with your starters too. I actually went with hash browns for once and they were delicious, along with EVERYTHING else! My husband got two servings for his all you can eat, and said the prime rib was so good! Scallops were yummy, but not the absolutely best he's ever had. Just delicious food all around. Great Place!! We came down for the first time over the holidays. The drinks were great. The regulars were very social and the bartender/owner was very friendly and accommodating. I started off with the French Onion Soup. Hands down the best I ever had! The Prime Rib and hash browns were both amazing! We came with another couple who highly recommended it. We are snowbirds and agreed that once we are back in Wisconsin this spring, our plan is to go there every Tuesday night. read more

I was apprehensive to eat here after reading recent reviews. My apprehension was unfortunately justified. Whatever magic this place had 15+ years ago is now gone. The prime rib dinner we had was tough. The food looked and tasted like it was from a low quality diner with no reverence to delivering tasty food or the customer experience. The owner seemed to be more concerned with entertaining a few select gentlemen, than the rest of her customers. I even overheard her mocking some customers that said they weren't satisfied with their food. Longevity of a supper club is ensured with ambience, a feeling of customer appreciation, delicious food and professionalism. I heard an ad on the radio for this place and had to check it out. What a great place for a Friday Night Fish Fry. They had our table ready for us quickly. The service is good, but the dining room can be tight when filled with hungry people. I ordered the lightly battered perch with hash-brown potatoes covered with Swiss cheese. This was some of the best perch I have tasted, except for the ones I caught and prepared myself. A true supper club needs to serve ice cream deserts and they certainly covered this need. I ordered a grasshopper and was not disappointed. The others in my group were also very satisfied with their meal. We all left with a full stomach and very happy. We live in Stoughton, and wanted to try someplace new, and came upon Ding-a-Ling Supper Club online and thought what the heck! It's an easy drive there, had good reviews, so let's give it a whirl. When we arrived we sat at the bar and ordered some Old Fashioned drinks and Spotted Cow. Right on point. We had a reservation and the owner/hostess sat us promptly. Our Server was on the spot bringing us water and rolls, and answered all of our questions. We ordered the haystack onion app which was great. We had the chicken rice soup which was rich and creamy. I had the Sat night 16 oz ( that isn't a typo) tenderloin and it was accompanied with sautéed onions and mushrooms. It was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. My wife had the ribs and tenderloin special and that was equally well prepared and tasty. One of our friends had the broiled seafood platter, which had cod, walleye, jumbo shrimp, and scallops. It was a huge portion for sure. We were going to get some of their cheesecake for dessert but we were too stuffed! As I paid the bill at the bar with the owner, she told me a little about her history and invited us back. I called on Wednesday for reservations for four at 6:00 as we had a schedule of sorts to keep for the evening. We arrived at 5:55 and were told that it would be "a few minutes". After 35 minutes and watching at least four groups of assumably "regulars" getting seated before us we got a table. The waitress was great and attentive and everyone at the table seemed to like their food. I had the prime rib and I thought it was good. My hashbrowns with cheese and onions were nothing spectacular but still good. My three stars is for the 35 minute wait when we had reservations. The hostess obviously gave her regulars preferential treatment and I guess that's OK. read more

This is a roadside grill, not a supper club. First of all, to call your establishment a supper club one must present diners with a complimentary relish tray. Ding a Ling did not provide a relish tray, therefore it is not a supper club. Our steaks were decent enough cuts of meat, though both were over cooked. The filet ordered 'medium' was served 'well done' and the rib eye ordered 'medium rare' arrived 'medium'. The French onion soup tasted off. Not sure how to describe it except that it was odd and was abandoned after a few spoonfuls. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Overall, we were disappointed with our visit. Very disappointing!! There is no way that you should be on a waiting list for a table of 2 for 55 minutes and not be seated. Especially when people that called for a reservation while we were waiting came in and got seated before us. So if you come in and wait for a table, you would be better off calling while you sit there so you have a better chance of getting seated. Poor, poor management!! LACK-LUSTER is the operative word here. The only redeeming quality of this place is the food - which is what a restaurant should be know for, yeah - HOWEVER, to call this a SUPPER CLUB is false. THIS IS NOT A TRUE SUPPER CLUB. It just isn't. Yea - it has a Fish Fry; sure, it has prime rib. Okay, they can make an Old-Fashioned ( I witnessed NO muddling, however). BUT - the real disappointment of the DingALing is the atmosphere. It sucks. It. Just. Sucks. Acoustic drop-tile ceiling, crappy diner chairs and oil cloth table covers, awful modern county music playing, and a trash-talking bartender... Blech. Okay - let's talk food. My sister and I went there this past Friday eve in search of a fish fry. We had been driving and touring Southern Wisconsin and remembered the DingALing from the MPT special "Wisconsin Supper Clubs" which featured The DingALing. Even though we were in search of a late-night (9:30) fish fry, we opted for the 10 oz prime rib special; because why the hell not? and because I never eat prime rib. I ordered mine medium rare, with a baked potato, and a salad. The raspberry vinaigrette that I got with my salad was gloppy and weirdly textured. The actual salad? A bowl of greens with a cucumber slice and about 6 croutons - woo-hoo. Okay - let's get to this prime rib; perfectly medium rare, yummy, salty-meaty jus. Awesome. Baked potato? Haven't had one in a while, and it was awesome. A perfect accompaniment to the prime rib. Warm rye rolls - okay! Here's where this place is NOT a place I will go again... ATMOSPHERE, ATMOSPHERE, ATMOSPHERE...!! It's not just the tiles, chairs, etc. etc. The awful, awful, AWFUL music. AND - Okay. I'll go... The bartender - who made a decent Old Fashioned, not the best. At the end of our meal, we overheard the bartender loudly trash-talking someone that was texting a boyfriend, or looked at her funny, or blah blah blah blah blah... It was very trashy and very high-school, unprofessional, and a real turn-off. I don't want to hear my bartender's trash talk. It was loud. I will say, however, that our waitress was awesome. Very attentive and friendly. Sad to say, this is not a true supper-club, despite the cool name and promise of a "classy" experience. read more

Yeah...um...this place was absolutely packed when I went. For the life of me, I could not venture a guess other than there's not much else close by, why? Again, went here on a recommendation (seriously gotta stop paying heed to others' opinions). You walk into a bar area and will immediately gain respect for clichéd sardines. Good for their business, bad your your personal space and hygeine. The bartender seemed to only flock to what I guess were regulars as it took around 15min to even take our drink order. Thankfully the dining area we were seated in was a little less crowded, but that didn't stop one particular waitress from knocking into the back of my wife's seat every time she passed, which was often. I just don't get this place. Friends wanted to meet us for dinner here because of so many people said how great it was. I'm wondering why they say this. Walked in the door: No hostess. The place was packed. No one to 'check-in' with for our reservation. Went to the bar: No one would make eye contact with us to ask a question, or order a drink. Stood there for 15 minutes waiting. Finally got a drink, and our friends got there to tell the right person that we were there for our reservations. 15 minutes after our reservations a worker pointed to an empty table and said "You can use that table". Classy. No server came to the table for 30 minutes, so we asked if we were going to get served that evening. They apologized for the confusion...kind of. They got the orders wrong. My steak went to another person at the table, and when they realized it was wrong, and after he was already cutting into the meat, they just took the platter away and gave it to me...classy. Maybe the 'locals' love this place, but it is a disorganized dump. I'd rather pay 3 times as much and get half as much food to have real service. Cheap drinks and large portions isn't why I patronize an establishment. I really hope that someone that runs this place reads this. read more

This place is a little out of the way but we enjoy going for Friday fish fry every now and then. Always busy right around dinner time so do expect to wait, even if you have a reservation. Onion haystack is quite big and quite delish. They offer both cod and perch and have a lighter breading which I like (they also have the basic beer batter). I also really like their soups, although their French Onion comes topped with a slice of melted processed cheese instead of the traditional Swiss cheese. read more

After hearing amazing things about The Ding A Ling, my boyfriend I decided to give it a try. The experience was incredibly underwhelming. I agree with many other reviewers that to call this a supper club is very misleading. Food is sub-par, no relish tray, and bread basket was sparse and not fresh or warm at all. The Ding-A-Ling was a BIG disappointment to me. My meal was horrible. The French onion soup was very watery with not much flavor. What is cheaper than onions. The cheese melted on top was of little quality and lacked flavor. I ordered a sirloin steak, medium rare. It was served well done. I sent it back. This time it arrived rare. What I found unusual was that even though it was rare, it was not bloody. The waitress insisted on taking it back and having it cooked "just a tad" more. It was returned medium. Three of the six guests in our party told me their meals were not the way they were ordered. The remaining three were very pleased with their meals. I was the only one to send food back.
