Five stars all the way! First, let me say that I am an…read moreelectrician on Yelp; you can search me by name and you'll see that I am one of the highest rated electricians in the city. I'm not saying this to brag; *I'm saying this so that you understand that I know what it takes to be a high-quality contractor*. Casimir fits the bill. I needed my entire side wall pointed for my 3-storey Victorian Twin. I didn't know any Masons, but I asked my own customers and obviously had the opportunity to see work that my customers had had done on their houses, but I wasn't happy with what I saw. So I went to Yelp: and that's where I found Casimir. When I asked on a South Philly Facebook group, Casimir also came highly recommended. Becky is the person in the office. She was friendly and easy to work with. She communicated well and answered all my nit-picky questions. I originally called in late fall and wanted to wait till warmer weather. We agreed on a date for April -and to my amazement, they kept that date for me. Originally Shawn came out and gave me the estimate. Then in the spring, he came out and supervised the work. And he *worked* with the crew; he didn't just disappear like so many "supervisors" do. I was impressed by his professional demands for the work quality. He matched brick colors, used traditional pointing materials and replaced a lintel above a window. I also had them replace a section of walkway in my alley. Shawn was great to work with as was the rest of the crew. In May, I wanted to get some more work done; there was a minor issue with some slope for run-off and not surprisingly, Casimir handled the problem with absolute professionalism. No excuses made and generously dealt with the problem taking responsibility for the (minor) problem. Let me just say, few jobs turn out perfectly the first time. And to be honest, most contractors can get away with small mistakes and nobody notices -but I'm a nit-picky contractor. What matters is how a contractor deals with little problems and Casimir is honest, upfront, and -can I use this word again?- totally professional. It's clear that they take pride in their work as well as their reputation. I have absolutely no hesitation recommending them.

I've seen some pretty crappy jobs during my years in Philly so I was wary about this project. He got back to me the next day and came out for a free estimate soon after. While it was a bit more than another one I got, it included the insulation and drywall on the other side of the brick. He said he would be there at 8:30, and he was there around 8:25 and stayed until 1:30. The cost was what he estimated, and he even pointed my stairs for me and fixed some of the crumbling cement at the base of them while he was at it, which was something I have been ignoring, hoping it would go away, and it, indeed, did! My neighbors are all so impressed with his work too. I will be calling John again if I ever need without any hesitation.

We hired Mr. Contractor to completely renovate the kitchen and primary bathroom in our 130-year-old…read morePhiladelphia home, and we're thrilled with how everything turned out. When we were choosing a contractor, Mr. Contractor's Yelp rating gave me some hesitation - especially given the high ratings elsewhere. But when I read the reviews themselves rather than just looking at the overall rating, many of the complaints seemed to involve relatively small jobs. We needed someone for a large, complicated renovation of a very old house, and the experience and capabilities Ken demonstrated seemed much better suited to that kind of project. Having now completed the job, I'm very glad we made that distinction. This was a big project, and our old house threw plenty of surprises at us. Once the demo began, our engineer found that part of the kitchen needed to be structurally rebuilt from the foundation up. That meant coordinating with our architect and structural engineer and substantially expanded the work. Despite that and the many twists and turns that followed, Ken and his crew kept things moving and completed an extraordinary amount of work in just 10 weeks. What really stood out was the crew. These guys were craftsmen who took genuine pride in what they were building. More than once, they spent extra time on something simply to get the finished result just right or recommended enhancements that were not charged. A friend who is a high-end interior designer saw the kitchen afterward and was impressed by the quality of the construction and attention to detail. We also lived in the house throughout the renovation. The crew was friendly and respectful, and they cleaned up the work areas at the end of every day -- something we came to appreciate enormously during 10 weeks of construction. Was every little detail perfect the first time? No. But that's actually part of why I'm comfortable giving Ken five stars. When something wasn't right, he worked to make it right. He and his team stayed engaged through the end of the project, addressed our punch-list items, and have continued to stand behind their work afterward. And we LOVE the result. The kitchen has completely changed the way we live in the house. It has become the place where our family naturally gathers, and it's as comfortable and functional to cook in as it is beautiful. The new bathroom has been equally transformative. At the beginning, I worried that we might be spending too much on the project - and it was significant. But by the end, having seen the amount of work involved and the quality and care that went into it, I felt exactly the opposite: we received very good value for our money. My takeaway is that Ken's particular strength is a substantial, complex project where you need an experienced GC who can keep multiple trades moving, deal with unexpected conditions, solve problems as they arise, and see the whole thing through. Renovating a 130-year-old house isn't easy, and I'd much rather have a contractor who knows how to deal with the inevitable problems and stands behind the finished product. We'd happily hire Ken and Mr. Contractor again.

We are so please to have found Rittenhouse Handyman. A little backstory: we have a condo in Philly,…read more our son used to live there and now it's a rental. We needed work in a ceiling that had been cut out to do a/c work. The contractor left it as is. Our tenant and us, just let it go, to be fair, but now since he's moving, we had to have the work done. I had emailed and called the handyman that the property manager uses for the entire building. I thought he knew the place and since it was familiar to him, a no brainer to use him. After waiting and leaving several messages, absolutely no response whatsoever. I found Rittenhouse Handyman on Yelp. It was very easy to schedule and appointment. No hassle at all. I sent them a picture of the problem and they sent me a fair estimate. What's really amazing is that they were responsive, easy to schedule an appointment with, and they showed up and did the work as promised. They did the work and they kept their word. Folks, we know how hard it is to find good people that keep their word and stick to it. I'm amazed how easy it was to schedule an appointment. We have two other rentals in the boonies in the Sierra Foothills in California and getting people to call you back and actually show up to do the work is hell. There are 5 star reviews that exist because everything went right. And then there are 5 star…read morereviews because something went wrong, and the company MADE it right. This is the latter of those two scenarios. Home Hero came to install curtains, a TV and a few rods and the first person they sent out wasn't quite able to finish the job due to the fact that we lived in a high rise and the studs were actually made from impenetrable steel (Who knew!). We had a few smaller issues with the work as well. None of it irreparable but we were left dissatisfied enough to let Home Hero know. They IMMEDIATELY reached out to us and asked how they could make it right and went through great effort to do just that. They sent a second person back out and finished the job. I was incredibly impressed with Pete (The owner, I gather) and his team's unquestioning devotion to making sure our work was finished and to our standards. Things go wrong on jobs. It just happens. And that's going to happen with ANYONE who comes into your home in a handyman type capacity. But after working with Home Hero's, it should be appreciated that not every contractor will go the extra mile to make sure you are happy with the work, and go back in and correct it if you're not. Thanks again to the two handymen at HH as well as Pete and Lea back at the office.

More like the Home Nightmare. I hired them to re-caulk two showers and repair one kitchen cabinet…read moredrawer. They asked me not to use the showers 48 hours in advance, so I did. On the day of the appointment, I waited around until 5pm, when I called to confirm they were still coming. They didn't answer, but called me back about 30 min later to say that there was a mix-up and that they weren't coming. To their credit, they did come the next day, but the technician was very confused about what to caulk in my showers. We watched a youtube video together, then he caulked the showers. I was very nervous at this point, but trusted him. Of course, after waiting 24 more hours to use the showers (and now almost a week of showering at the gym), I find that the shower leaks!!! I contacted the company and they promised to look at it when the drawer technician comes out. Well, that appointment got rescheduled 2 times. I was getting pretty fed up and asked them to commit to a time. That's when Pete, the manager, tells me via email that they cannot ensure that a shower won't leak after they caulk it. At this point, I had no confidence in this company and asked for a refund for the one shower and to cancel the drawer repair. They refunded me $75 out $200 wished me luck disputing the remainder with my credit card company. A total waste of my time and honestly the worst customer service I've experienced in Philly (and that's saying a lot!).
