Scammed my grandmother out of $15,000 for a service that should've been no more than 200. They have come to take advantage of not only the elderly but the people of Tennessee because we have faced so much damage due to ice. On September 17th around 6:45am I was awakened by a knock on the door. Half asleep I go outside to discuss with Devin of Dilday & Sons my driveway which was in need of top coating. Keep in mind I'm 68 years old. He tossed numbers in high amounts like $6k and kept coming down as I didn't want to do this for so much. I still didn't have my coffee yet, I seemed to agree on $2500 paid to Wayne Dilday. Large trucks follow this guy around as he bothers every neighbor that appears to need services such as landscaping, tree timing. Almost a dozen guys worked on my drive and in less than an hour and a half, he presents this bill. I paid him with a check but started to feel remorse as I had coffee already and realized I may have been taken by this fast talker. I find now that the Consumer protection agency in Kansas has banned them from soliciting to the elderly there for this reason. I looked up cost as I would getting bids to compare with which I didn't do nor awake enough to realize I should. The materials to do my 1200 sq ft driveway couldn't have even been $300-400 and even a days labor for one guy would not have totaled $1000 in all. He had removed the grass between the many cracks he said would be sealed up. After two weeks, the grass is growing again in the cracks. Materials used seemed thin like watered down or just poor quality as well. He has an excuse for anything you complain about. I just want as much of my funds back that was overpayment and also as I need to hire someone else to fix it right. I'm sure experts in this would agree that he should have tried to put such an expensive bandage on my driveway as it really should be replaced at this point. Therefore, he totally took advantage of my and that I was not awake. Tricky tactic knocking on doors that early in the morning. So I must not be the first this happened to. read more

They have changed the business name several times in the past few years, and this should be a huge red flag to anyone that there's something wrong going on. Yes, I'm another senior they have scammed more than once. I think they now go by SQ Tree services, but same tactics as ever. Knock on the door early, quote me a low price for some work that might need to be done, then later find a lot more that *needs* to be taken care of for a much higher amount. The last time, I agreed begrudgingly to a horrendous amount to take care of one tree being removed, and to add insult to injury, they charged even more to my credit card. I think the state attorney general will be my next step if these guys won't refund the amount I overpaid them. Next time I don't plan to answer the door. I didn't plan on it this time, but I was waiting for someone else and they happened to knock. I need to get my Ring doorbell up and running. Yeah, part my fault, but this is not right to do to older people, and I am not the only one. read more

On 12/27/2022, my elderly Sister was solicited by Dilday & Sons to trim trees around her home. She received no initial written bid, but was told that they would top the tree on the north that was touching her roof for $5,500. She agreed. After that tree was completed, she was re-contacted and told they would also trim three (3) additional trees. When she inquired as to the added cost. She was told that they would discuss the cost upon completion. When they had removed a few limbs from the other trees, she was then told the final bill was $10,500. She then prepared a check for the requested amount, made payable to Dilday & Sons. Upon completion, she was asked to re-write the check made payable now to Wayne Dilday for the amount of $9,500 instead of $10,500? No reason for the change offered. At that time, a receipt was provided. Their business practices of soliciting elderly customers door to door, providing sketchy proposed services, at exorbitant add on costs should be a big Red Flag to any potential customers. The company should be banned in Missouri as was done in Kansas in 2020! read more

I have not personally used this company. But, they were in my neighborhood doing trees for my neighbor. They wanted to enter my yard to pick up the trees they cut down. I was happy to do whatever they needed to do to get trees out of my yard. They did a great job with the tree cleanup. However, I would please ask that you have your employees pickup and do not leave cigarette butts in the yards of people you are not giving service to! I have a puppy who is in my backyard and eats everything! Thankfully, I found the cigarette butt before my puppy did. Also, I asked one of the guys to give us a quote on tree trimming and put a pamphlet and the quote in my mailbox. He told me several times he would and he never did. He did however talk to my neighbor who would have had a bigger job to do. But, the delivery of exactly what they would do for my neighbor was not delivered in a professional manner. Please do not tell your potential clients that their house value will drop in one day if you don't get your trees trimmed by the next day. Likewise, if any of your employees are adamant that they are certified arborists, some proof of that to show your potential clients is always a good idea to have on hand! My interactions with this company were okay enough (minus the cigarette butt left), but it was kind of mind boggling that my neighbor had a complete opposite experience with them. read more

Dilday & Sons was doing some work for a neighbor a few houses down from me. They stopped in the middle of the day and asked if I wanted some firewood. I asked them what kind of wood it was. The man kept saying he didn't know. I said to him "your a tree cutting service...you know what kind of tree it is". He said one is a maple but didn't know about any of the rest. Said he hadn't gone down to look at them yet. I called my dad (it's his house). He said yes, maple is fine, nothing too big around. They came and dropped a load of wood. I don't know trees, no idea what it was. My dad comes home...There is 2 small crappy pieces of maple, the rest is pine. Those guys knew pine can't be burnt in a wood stove. They are liars and untrustworthy!!! My dad had to spend hours dragging useless wood to a burn pile because they were too lazy/cheap to dispose of it properly. read more

I had Dilday Tree Service come to my home to do some tree service, I paid $3800 in cash, they didn't finish the job and now won't return my phone calls. I've left four messages. Very disappointed. Don't ever pay up front until the job is completed. read more
