A dying company? I started with their web site, where it wouldn't budge, insisting that I didn't know my zip code. Next I dial their phone number, listened to a lot of legal crap, and then tried to figure out how to reach "sales". It feels like the last thing they want to do is sell stuff. I placed an order using my credit card but it was questioned because they want a copy of my driver's license, passport or legal identification card. I have used this credit card to purchase items from many different vendors and have never been asked for an ID check. When I called customer service, they said their procedure requires ID verification before they will process a credit card transaction. I cancelled this order because this policy makes no sense, no other company I have purchased from does this. I am uncomfortable giving them a copy of my driver's license due to the amount of identity theft that occurs. I do not recommend Digi-Key. read more

These people are amazing. Tons of parts at reasonable prices - the selection is staggering but you really need to know what you're looking for. Website is nothing fancy but it gets the job done. They also don't rip you off with shipping by offering first class mail for packages under a pound - something you won't find with other companies who insist on using UPS/FedEx for everything. Turn-a-round time is ultra fast too with same day shipping. I live in California and if I order on a Monday by 6pm, almost always get my package a couple of days later on Wednesday. I have had great luck with Digi-Key. I have found their inventory, for my needs, more complete than other online suppliers and more complete than my local professional electronics supplier. Once I figured out to look in Digi-Key's site first, I have not gone back to any other online supplier, because every item I needed was in Digi-Key's catalog. (I try to go to my local brick-and-mortar supplier to keep them in business, but about half the time they don't have what I need.) The more you know about what you want, the easier it is to find it in Digi-Key's online catalog. There are more different components than you might imagined; the website says they have 5 million. You can see the manufacturers' data sheets at Digikey, but that doesn't always tell you enough to decided between two parts. I would recommend watching the Parametric Search video on their Getting Started page so you know how to use their interface. I wish I had. I have always had timely, well-packed deliveries. They're the only shipper I know of that uses "expanded paper" - paper with the same pattern as "expanded metal" screens. And I've always gotten the correct parts. They can ship by everything from First Class Mail through Fedex overnight. Shipping is not so expensive as to make me think twice about buying, though I do try to gang my needs together to reduce postage costs. read more

Even though I told them nicely that I am an amateur I need help, they said you get what you order and that's it... No help at all.. a Customer service can't be worse than this.. They have started charging a fee for "tariffs", but they are selling products that predates tariffs being paid.

Even for a small orders like I do, Digi-Key takes care your order good. They sent parts in securely packaged, in a timely manner.
