In the interest of full disclosure, I am a native Texan and my wife, although German, is as much if not more "Texas Girl" than most women I've met in our home state of Texas. And as Texans, we take our steak VERY seriously!
Since we are visiting Germany over Christmas and New Year's we are spending time with family, and as such, we along with my brother-in-law (BIL) visited Die Sattlerei a couple of days ago for dinner. My BIL had eaten at the restaurant before, but my wife and I were complete newcomers.
Die Sattlerei has a very comfortable, rustic-modern, and warm decor. The restaurant is casual enough to go in t-shirt and jeans, but nice enough that wearing a jacket and tie would not make one feel over-dressed. The music in the restaurant was instrumental only and contemporary, which was very nice. It was not too loud and added positively to our dining experience.
The waitstaff were timely, courteous, and professional. We were offered the use of a menu in English should we want it, and I being the only non-native German speaker, opted for it. It was well translated and it conveyed accurate and necessary information. In short, we all received exactly what we ordered and it matched in every aspect that which was written in the menus.
For our meals: my BIL ordered the USDA Prime 300gr Filet Steak - medium, "coated" in "Bayou Blast," with a Mixed Greens Salad, Asparagus, and Roasted Rosemary Potatoes; my wife and I both ordered the USDA Prime 400gr Ribeye Steak - medium, hers seasoned normal and mine "Blackened Cajun; she ordered the Baked Potato and I ordered the House Fries. We too had the Mixed Greens Salads.
As regular steak eaters, my wife and I are generally very critical of steaks that are prepared on a griddle or flat iron, opting always for flame or char-grilled. As we expected, the steaks at Die Sattlerei were prepared on a flat iron. And, after we three dug into and tasted our steaks, we came to a quick and unified consensus: that the steaks here at Die Sattlerei were prepared perfectly to order, beyond expectations flavor-wise, complex in profile but outrageously delicious!! I mean, DELICIOUS!!!
We then each sampled one another's respective potato dish and again concluded equally that the potato side dishes were arguably the best we all had eaten... EVER, in each of their respective preparation methods. I mean they were absolutely delicious!!! The roasted Rosemary Potatoes were well-seasoned, flavorful, served temperature hot, and with perfectly crisped edges. The House Fries were likewise served piping hot and were perfectly crisped, and remained so throughout eating until they were gone! The Baked Potato with Sour Cream was the absolute creamiest I had ever tasted! Again, EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS!
For the sake of honorable mention, the Mixed Greens Salads were also very tasty and fresh! The Pilsner Bier and Radler that we ordered was also on point and tasty! Lastly, the "Bathrooms" at Die Sattlerei were clean and well-stocked.
A little on the expensive side, but if you're looking for a great steakhouse that surely will not disappoint, you cannot go wrong with Die Sattlerei! We are very happy we have it a try and we will definitely be eating here again! I hope you have as enjoyable experience as we have should you choose Die Sattlerei.
